Hey,

I realized the other day that my beloved 12,9" ipad had some weird effects on the upper left halve, when I pressed it with my finger even lightly, there was some rainbow and shadowing effect going on. I called the apple support today because I thought that this was a clear case for the warranty.
But when I took it out of my case, I realized, that in fact the device had bent significantly in that area somehow.
It's really a mystery to me as I have the device almost only at home all the time, in a case from day one, it has never fallen down or anything. The only explanation I have is that It was in my backpack some day and i leaned against a pillar or something and there it must've happened. Bit it's really completely unexpected behavior as I imagine one must put HUGE forces on a device like this in order to bend.

I was adviced to go to the apple store and let them have a look at it in order to see if they'll replace it.

What would be your advice for me? I really feel myself not guilty, cause I didnt do anything unexpected to my device but it's broken now anyways due to obvious construction weaknesses just like in the ip6 plus I would say..

I had this happen, on the upper left side too, out of nowhere. Didn't affect the screen none, but luckily had AppleCare+ and replaced it.

They may be able to help you replace it for free if you talk to them about the issue calmly :)

It does take a good bit to bend it but like you said if it were not protected inside your backpack and a corner of the iPad got pushed into something hard, it will bend. If you read through these forums there are not a lot of bent iPad threads so it would not be a "construction weakness".

You can go and see Apple and they are times very nice and could even replace your device but they are not obligated to do so! Apple is not near as nice as they used to be but it is likely due to so many taking advantage. Being in Germany . . .not sure how they will be.

Let us know and good luck!

I saw the bent videos of ipp...and you definitely need some pressure to bend it.

yea I seriously do not understand how this could happen. It was protected at all times, ok only in a leather case but still, it feels very sturdy. Messed up, I hope they'll replace it..

I feel your pain, and it was the main reason I stopped carrying around my iPad Pro.

Even if I do end up carrying it on a flight, I make sure to just carry it in my hands rather than in my backpack.

You bent it. And you should have bought AppleCare w/the iPad Pro.

Now you have to hope Apple is feeling generous.

Dang that's messed up I have mine in a otterbox so I feel pretty safe but I guess I still better be careful good luck with the fix I hope it works out for you

If you got apple care plus...sure they'll replace for 49 bucks. If not...just make the best of it.

I don't think it's $49....

Edit: wow, it is $49. That makes this a steal for the 12.9
Apple guy told me 49 bucks and can replace twice with apple care plus....(that's when I purchased it last week).

You got apple care plus?

Yeah, I do. I get it for all of my Apple products.
Then you got nothing to worry about except your 49 bucks.

Sorry to hear. Apple really need to reduce the bezels and make the iPad smaller. No wonder it's bent with its huge size.
Since other devices, iPhones included, can also bend if customers abuse them, I doubt a reduction in iPad size will help. We need to get our heads around the fact that these gadgets are very thin and will bend if we act careless.

Get that changed...if possible for free...or 49 bucks in Germany.

What leather are you talking about? Get otter box.

Its possible...but 49 bucks is still good.
Yes, goodwill gestures are possible, because it surely is not covered by warranty. APP+ might cover it, if you pay the service fee. I agree, that's great value compared to a bent device, anytime.

Went to the store today... had to wait for 4 hours.. then I learned that they want to charge me 660 € for the exchange.
I begged them, told them what kind of a good apple customer I am (I AM) and even asked for the manager, but nothing. The didnt make any offers, said I couldnt purchase APP+ now (only 60 days after buying and the product needs to be in perfect shape) Plus it's 150 € in Germany and not 49.
But yea, great disappointment. I dont know what to do now, really. :(

You choices are limited. Live with the bent device, try to bend it back or buy a new iPad.

Yeah, you really can't purchase insurance after an accident.

Maybe you can put your ipad on the floor, and try to press it back flat with large heavy books or weights. Otherwise, if the iPad is still functioning, just live with it. Think of it as a custom curved screen.

There s no "might cover it". APP+ will always cover it, unless it is lost.

You can skip buying APP+ on many iOS devices, but don't skip it on the 12.9" iPad Pro in particular. As you've already discovered, the out of warranty costs are absurd.
