I don't think it'll cause any damage, but from what I understand, the cover won't stick to the front of the iPad, and the auto sleep/wake function won't work. So it's basically good only as a stand. It won't be very good at protecting the iPad screen, because it could just flip open at any time.

I put my smart cover from my air two on my 9.7 pro and that fell right off. It didn't stick correctly.

Got mine yesterday, 128GB Cellular, with Smart Keyboard cover and Apple pencil. Got to say, first impression is, this thing is crazy fast and smooth (compare to my iPad air2), when i work on my interior design apps. The key boards pretty useful (need sometime to get use to the small key) and nicely fit the iPad. The True Tone is pretty nice add on. Also, The speaker is loud, in a nice way though.

As for the Apple pencil, i think they need to find another way to charge it, it's so awkward to charge on the iPad itself. Another thing that annoy me a little, is that the when you have to keyboard cover on the iPad, it's add a lot of weight to it. I always like laying down on my bed and read at night before sleep, and it was uncomfortable to hold it, so i had to take out the cover. But i love it so far

Yeah--I tried it. I have the silicon back cover (which I love so far) and the cutout also doesn't leave enough room for the spine of my old Smart Cover.

I ended up cancelling my Apple Store order and got one from Best Buy for Monday delivery.

Not only will it not stick down, the first panel actually sticks up slightly, due (I assume) to the polarity of the magnets involved. So not really usable.

There is an adapter in the Pencil box it came packaged in to just charge it using a standard lightning cable. That's what I use.

No luck finding a 128GB local. AT&T has a rose gold or a 256GB silver ($44/month or $51/month). Decisions, decisions...

Want to use ATT Next and Apple Store doesn't do that.

Just one thing, how do the chambers influence case vibrations? Is it more or less of a problem in the 12.9" iPad Pro?

When there are speakers involved, you need to expect some sort of vibration. The vibration from the older iPad was because the sound wasn't isolated and was allowed to go into the case, thus affecting the screen and allowing sound reverberation which turns into more vibration (echo).

The new design sees the speakers are more sealed off, there is a lot of insulation beneath the display (as seen in the recent teardown) and this is what separates it from the older model. I do notice vibration at high volumes but it doesn't affect the display like the previous version, but you can feel it along the back of the iPad.

The 12.9 is different because it has sealed off chambers which don't allow the sounds to reverberate much which reduces excess vibration. The vibration in the Air 2 was because the sound was allowed inside the case and it bounced around and became excessive. The 12.9 does have vibration at high volume but it has a lot of volume at high volume as well so it's expected. The 12.9 also has more mass and insulation as well so it doesn't seem so obvious.
