Well, of course. Not everybody needs an iPad Pro or wants one because of the $100 premium over an Air.
the "Air" is not an ipad. it's a laptop. something Windows cant seem to understand.
nobody i know what's a touch screen laptop for work.

Love the 13" Pro. It has replaced my old MacBook Air (which needs a software re-install I haven't gotten around to) for months as I've awaited the new 15" MBP in my future! And when I no longer need it for that, it's a great game machine and TV. Not to mention art with the pencil.

But I'll probably always use it as a laptop too--if I get the 15" there will be days I'd rather go iPad-light. The iPad Pro makes a very nice MacBook Air for me.

Tip: skip the folding keyboard. Apple's newest Mac Magic Keyboard also works on iPad--officially. It's smaller and lighter, repositionable, and has extra functions like volume. Plus it matches my white Smart Cover. And I like that I can set a very low, touch-friendly screen angle with the Smart Cover. Or prop the iPad vertically. The folding keyboard can't do any of that.

I'm sure most people don't need to go full Pro, but it's a terrific line. And if you can afford it, the 13" is the ultimate laptop replacement for non-techie people who just want to get stuff done. I've seen people get it and for the first time in their lives they're creating and experimenting rather than nervously managing their computer. The ease and simplicity is huge for the real world (people who aren't on tech forums like this). Especially writers (which isn't me).

As much as I absolutely love my 12.9" iPad Pro, I have to admit it's a niche device. The USB-C to Lightning adaptor/charger and Apple Pencil are great accessories as well. However, by the time you buy everything you could buy a laptop instead. Depends on the person and their needs.

Because who is going to buy a "pro" tablet that cant run Adobe CC or put an extra pound of tech in their bag just to do concept work on it?

Who can leave home without their work machine? How many times you get a call from the Press/Client asking for a change on your "weekend trip". What you going to say? - sorry I only packed my iPad Pro I can't open the inDesign file

Good luck with that.

The issue I have with the iPad pro naming scheme is it feels like a gimmick to raise average selling price. The iPad Pro is really just the successor to the iPad Air 2. It is not actually "more professional" than the iPad Air that came before it.
Yep. Lots of people wanted iPad Air 3 but the divs put a pro moniker and price it out of 99.9% of people's hands.

That's why lots of people think Tim's killing Apple.

And I think the "PRO" still have to show some software support worthy of the title and the ≈$1500 price tag you end up with after adding the necessities..

This is one I'm looking forward to. Even if you're not in the market for this type of app, it's still impressive and the type of approach that many people want to see: all the same features/functionality as the desktop version.

the % was higher but half decided to return it after they found out it was just a big tablet.

I love the iPad Pro 12.9 but the main reason I purchase it was because it was on Sale at BestBuy and later they matched a better price from another vendor, I was able to sell my old iPad for a good price at Craigslist and had gift cards from BB. So in the end the cost was reasonable for me. They are very overpriced.
I love the large screen, Apple pencil is great and using Duet screen I can take it on the road with my MBP and have dual screens and add Astropad, is fantastic drawing tablet in PS.
That said, Apple need to lower prices across the board. They are tripping lately. The new MBP are a joke how expensive they are.

it is expensive and the form factor is larger than the average consumer device. To expect it to have close to the number of units moved as a 9.7 tablet at a lower cost is apples to oranges. The accessories are high but not necessarily overpriced. Value≠cost, Value=quality at price.

There isn't really anything Pro about it IMHO... Plus it is way too expensive given the limited advantages over Air / Mini.
IMHO there is everything Pro about it. But the "Air"? There is nothing about it that reminds me of Oxygen or Nitrogen or any other component of air.

Market saturation. Not many people are upgrading; the iPad they already own still works great.

If it's true that not many people are upgrading... then most of the 9.3 million iPads they sold in the last 3 months went to new iPad owners.

That's actually not too bad.

I often hear "market saturation" but then Apple sells more than any other tablet maker. They might not be growing anymore... but they're still selling a lot of them.

And since they do last a long time... old iPads are still being used too. Not many iPads get thrown away... they continue life as a kid's tablet or coffee table devices.

I know I bought one and love it! I use it, the Apple Pencil, and the Smart Keyboard constantly!

Apple still treats the iPad like a stepchild. iOS never seems to get much optimization for the ipad.

Alot of people just use their IPAD for surfing. And there is not really a need to buy a new one, unless it dies eventually. And the PRO is too expensive for that.

That´s exactly the one I´m waiting for. Buying iPad PRO2 when it comes :)

Apple should have teamed up with devs. long before the release so customers actually had a reason to buy it at launch.
The plan to release it like: "Here is our new amazing hardware, and hopefully in a year or two there will be apps for it. Now please buy it", only made people wait for the yearly refresh since it´s not like they are missing out on much..

I love my 9.7" iPad Pro. If you are a professional in an artistic field and see the iPad as a tool, IMO, the Pro is a fantastic tool.

With a keyboard, it's damn close to a laptop replacement. In fact, it's my daily driver as I rarely use the laptop-only-art tools during the day. I think the 12.9" iPad Pro becomes a much better art tool, but it loses it's utilitarian use greatly. Especially if you carry a keyboard, you get very close to the weight and cost of a new MBP.

Adobe offers some FANTASTIC art tools that you can do real work with on an iPad. Still needing some fine-tuning but it's over 90% ready. With Microsoft Office 365 being completely useable on the iPad w/keyboard, I love it.

This is a keeper!
