My iPad Pro's display makes an audible clicking noise when tapping on the lower half or home button. When pressing on the middle of the screen, it makes a sound like an air whiff. The air sound is probably normal based on the side of display. But the clicking seems like a defect. Taking it back to the Genius Bar on Monday. Anyone else with a similar issue?

interesting. Wonder if this is normal or an issue. It would surprise me if apple thought it was acceptable. But I've been surprised by less :)

Yep, mine's the same: a light click when pressed in the bottom third or so. Only audible in a silent room, though.

Same here. Guess that's just part of the design. I mean you gotta press it pretty hard in a silent room to hear it.

Mine clicks too. Very annoying. Anyone exchanged due to it yet?

I did. Replacement has no clicking or "breathing" air sounds.

Same issue. Very annoying. I wonder if it has to do something with temperature. This is the first day I've noticed it, and it recently got much colder here.

I've had this with iPhones in the past - I think it's a bonding issue - the glue separates and the screen moves in a way it shouldn't. Apple have always replaced the screen assembly without question once they've seen the clicking (for devices within warranty).

On the older, unbonded iPHones, you could fix this by tightening the screws that hold the device together - but it's all about the glue these days.

Same here, while tapping normally it doesn't breath(air pushed out near the lightning port), just if wrap it with two hands and squeeze a bit.
While tapping normally, I can just see the display surface bending a bit to the inner.

Well im unsure how to categorise this, faulty device or normal for a such large thin device.
Its maybe also an design error, by not adding enough/or low display holders/sustainers inside the ipad (surface parts to lean display agains them)?

    Hmmm dunno

Apple isn't going to make a design error so significant. The noise you are hearing is required in order for the screen to move. The speaker boxes are actually enclosed in the case if i recall ( don't quote me on that ), so the only way for so much surface air to escape is through the lightning port. However, if you're just clicking the screen normally, and it's making ANY type of sound, call apple, get a new one. On the other hand, if you read this thread, and you pulled out your ipad, and pressed hard enough to cause screen blimishes with the screen on, then you're pressing to hard, and the sounds / air you're hearing is because you're hurting the device.

I experience the same air breath with my new iPad Pro 12.9. Not disturbing while normal tapping. Just by squeezing from both sides. Will not exchange it, its just a funny thing which was not happened on my old iPad Pro 9.7.

By "new iPad Pro", are you referring to the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9"? The second generation version that was released in June 2017?

Exactly. The new iPad Pro 12.9. Picked up in store last week. Older models in store do the same. Looks like they share same design. Not disturbing while normal use. So for me its a keeper.

I'm wondering why you keep writing "new iPad Pro", when it's just as easy for you to type "2017 iPad Pro" to completely disambiguate a 2015 iPad Pro you bought last week versus a 2017 iPad Pro you bought last week.

My 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 makes a popping sound when pressing the top of the screen. (portrait) Plan on returning it.

My 2017 does this too, but only while force pressing. Wonder if it's by design. In normal use and only tapping I don't hear any popping/clicking/creaking.

Now I'm afraid to get rid of my iPad Air 1. Is there any other manufacturing issues that we need to be aware of?

Apple received my iPad with this issue today. Took a while since they had to ship me a box first for some reason. Now the online repair status tells me that "No trouble was found". They even shipped it back to me. Just talked with support for 45 minutes. They had to call me back soon with an answer.

    Edit:
After 45 new minutes I got the "best offer ever": I have to send it back again when I receive it in 7-9 days. Means I'll get it back around two months after i first got it. And here I thought Apple was supposed to have good customer service?

It's an issue that could easily be fixed. Open another box of iPad in front of you... and here you go. We apologize for the inconvenience. One less angry customer after shelling out more than 6-700 bucks for a tablet.

You did not mention what was wrong with your iPad? Did you get Apple care?
