Has anyone seen any Ipad Pro's in the wild. I am curious if people are keeping them at home or bringing them out. I stopped for lunch the other day and a guy was walking outside the plaza and he had a ipad pro in a case. I don't know where he was going or if he was just leeching wifi off the plaza. Its the first one i've seen though this year.

I often use my iPad Pro on the bus, but I doubt many people notice me, because the bus I ride has this kind of seating.

It's hard to notice what other people are doing unless you deliberately look at them while you are walking by.

I live in London and commute on the Tube ( subway ) every week day. So far I've not seen any in the wild whether elsewhere or on the Tube. The only ones I've seen were the ones on display in the Apple stores here. I often see people using their laptops on the Tube but I guess because of the form factor maybe iPad Pro's are harder to use.

Haven't seen one at work yet and everyone always asks what that is when I am typing on my keyboard case.

Myself and a friend both bought one at the same time to use for college... we use them there every day. I also use mine on thr bus and subway.

However, to date I haven't seen anyone else with one yet.

I take mine to court and to the university where I teach. I have seen other faculty use them - we have compared accessories. The students all have macbook airs or surface pros

I have seen 11 to present:

New York City (November)
  • One person sketching in Central Park (day before Thanksgiving)
  • One person editing photos at Penn Station while waiting for an Amtrak
  • One Person shooting video near the WTC memorial
Chicago (Late December)
  • Two separate individuals at Starbucks (different tables - one was typing, the other looked like he was playing a game)
  • One person showing their kids something at the Museum of Science and Industry
  • One person reading a comic book on the subway
  • One person on the train - they had headphones in but wasn't paying attention to the screen.
Milwaukee (various)
  • One person sketching at the Milwaukee Public Museum
  • One person sketching at the Domes
  • One person typing something at Starbucks

I also see plenty of Minis and Airs, but not a lot of the older style iPads.

I'll also note that all of the sketchers were using Procreate except the guy at the MPM who was using Adobe Sketch. He said he prefers Procreate, but was trying out sketch.

Outside of the stores, I have seen only one iPad Pro 'in the wild'. This was yesterday on my commute by train. A men of middle age balanced a Pro on his lap with a smart cover. Looked a bit uncomfortable to me. I'd expected to see them on my university but none so far. A lot of iPads though so they will appear sooner or later I guess, although the price is very high.

None in Tokyo seen outside apple store. Once in our office as test device but not counting that. For Japan public transportation just tooooo big. Lots of iPhone 6 and iPad minis though.
My perception might change once I got mine but I will leave it at home too

Mine's the only one I've seen on my campus. Surface Pro 4 is everywhere, very popular with comp sci and engineering majors. I think the iPP is a better pure pen and paper replacement device but for the price I'm not surprised most people are going with a device that can also run engineering software, visual studio, linux distros, etc.

I've seen a handful of Surface Pro's in the past six months, but what surprises me is the lack of non-iPad tablets. With the exception of the Surface and some Kindles, I've seen nobody using anything but iPad. No Samsung tablets, no Windows tablets - just iPads, Surface, and Kindles.

On release day I saw a guy kneeling in the middle of the hallway outside an Apple store setting up his IPP.

Mine has been on 4 cross-continental flights since I got it and I used it for reading a book or watching a movie and even a little work.

I also take it to my kids hockey games so I have something to do waiting for the game to start or after the game when they are changing. Read some news, do a crossword. Reply to some emails. Our local town run rinks all have free WiFi.

Also that companies here dont jump onto new technology so fast, and for the most part (in my experience) bring your own device is not an option for perceived security issues.

Having said that, I use mine in coffee shops or on the shinkansen when traveling on business. Particularly on the older ones, I find it easier to use than a laptop because of the location and size of the tray table.
