Because it is. ;)

Microsoft has produced a tablet that is capable of operating as both a tablet and a notebook. Apple doesn't offer one. The closest thing is people claiming that the new Macbook is true iPad Pro. (in spite of the fact that the Macbook doesn't have a touchscreen nor run iOS)

The iPad pro is not a notebook and the surface pro isn't a true tablet.

The surface pro runs a full OS that is designed for keyboard and mouse input, touch input and navigation using touch will always be an after thought because keyboard and mouse is primary inputs.

The iPad pro runs iOS which was designed from the ground up to be a tablet, hardware and software wise.

Both will excel at different productivity tasks more than the other because one is a laptop and the other is a tablet. One runs full desktop/ laptop class apps while the other runs specifically created mobile touch apps.

You people need to wake up and realize this. The surface pro will never ever be a better tablet or do tablet touch tasks better than an iPad pro because it wasn't designed to. It's a laptop first and tablet second. Even though with every iteration Microsoft is improving and making the tablet side better it will never be on par with what a true tablet could do.

You people should really stop comparing the two of these products because it isn't the same type of product. One is a hybrid of a laptop and tablet, and the other is just a tablet designed to do what tablets do better than laptops.

This is why Apple will never merge Mac OS and iOS. They will borrow and implement cross platform features as they see fit, but they don't believe you can ever really meld the two and make a single product that is better than both laptop and tablet.

You're barking up the wrong tree. I didn't say better. I was responding to someone who asked why some believe the Surface Pro is more advanced. There's a difference.

The Surface Pro can run mobile touch apps in addition to desktop class apps. One can argue that the quality and quantity aren't there for Windows (I've been in the lead in pointing that out).

I know what you were responding to and I'm responding to your post. Your response to bolster why some believe the surface pro being more advanced was stating that "Because it is" "Microsoft has produced a tablet that is capable of operating as both a tablet and a notebook"

If I were to substitute where I've used the word better for more advanced it would make no difference in this context. All I did was respond to your claim of the surface being more advanced by explaining the difference between the two products. I wasn't attacking you then and I'm not now. I'm simply saying people need to realize it's two different products.

The surface pro as a hybrid when used as a tablet do do tablet related tasks is exceedingly inferior compared to the iPad pro. How's that for the surface pro being more advanced?

so after playing with the surface new family...short answer is iPad or iPad pro is the best tablet for it main purpose as a tablet.
Now, surface book, when its closed there is that gap..in real life is ugly and if you carry that the magnets used to hold the lid closed isn't powerful enough for a very safety travel, but who carry his laptop in his hand a lot right? but still for an "ultimate laptop 2015 is not so cool"
When the battery drain from tablet mode(display detached) you must reset windows IF you want to attach and use it as an laptop because the base is not power the display battery while attached
Normal usage web, in tablet mode last for me about 2 hours and 42 minutes, so use it as an laptop
It is nice because when you work with some pro apps the display is hot and not the keyboard so you don't feel strange while you are using it
The bottom scratch the surface if you drag your laptop around, i think the bottom rubber is very hard and scratch the glass very easy
Touch screen is useless because the trackpad is very ok now and you can easly point to close apps and so on, instead to touch pixels with your finger to do that
It is a nice WINDOWS laptop but the build is not perfect like the macbooks, you can open the lid easy until it reaches at one point. The feel of that magnesium build is to touch like a hard empty plastic not like the feel of metal from macbooks
For a laptop for that price you get macbook pro 15" that is almost twice as fast and well build with better speakers as well

So iPad pro it will be an improved ipad experience and probably in future with more multitasking and features to take advantage. Surface book or pro are not improved tablets/laptops because their main purpose is mixed-up
Surface as tablet you need surface pro 4 because last almost 8h light usage and almost 6 h heavy usage, but to point and drag it is not as easy like ipad. Windows 10 is not 100% only for touch focused and you can feel that
As an laptop the macbook is still the best choice if you are not a big fan for touchscreen in a laptop

I was wondering how they were going to do it. I think it is ugly (both the bad picture and the official picture).

Also think SurfaceBook gap is ugly.

I am debating about getting the Pro, though. I really just want a bigger screen... I won't actually use the Pro features... Well, except the Pencil. I just want to take notes on a larger screen lol. I should just save money and buy a paper notebook :)

"Regarding the Apple Pencil, Speirs said that it was “extremely impressive” and the “best iPad stylus” he has ever used with near-perfect palm rejection. He noted that there was no perceptible lag and that it offered a direct drawing a writing experience – huge for animation and note taking. Speirs said the Pencil was “weighty but not heavy” and very balanced, much like a quality pen."

Clearly, none of you realize that this is the direction that things are going in the industry.
