Why do you say "suddenly"? How do you know the adapter wasn't always part of the product?I wonder if the delay in the pencil is because they suddenly decided to put an adaptor in with them?

I expect that Apple will quickly catch up considering what the pencil is -- there's nothing exotic about it. Plastic and standard electronics, nothing fancy like finicky taptic engines.
But, what do you wanna bet that there will suddenly be an explosion of Apple Pencil's available on eBay for twice the retail price next week, as the frenzy over Apple's published shipping times escalates?
Ordered mine yesterday around 9 AM EST, with standard free shipping. Arrived today.
First impressions: BIG - even the charging cable is BIG, about twice as long as the standard ones, which is nice.
depends on where you live. Give me your exact address and I'll get back to you on the odds of it being stolen off the front porchMine was going to be delivered Friday, but shipped with overnight shipping on Wed, so, it changed to today (when I'm not home, sigh) but, just got notified that it was delivered, dropped off at front door, even though nobody home to sign. Hope it will be there when I get home!
There were not many options available yesterday at the local store when I got mine. Actually the silicone case is nicer than what I thought, it has an internal lining that makes it nicer that a cheap one out there. I does fit nicely with the smart cover, and all the holes fit nicely with the speakers and all the buttons. My point exactly… I can understand $99 for a pencil, I can stretch my imagination to rationalize $59 for smart cover, but $79 for a piece of silicone???
I got mine this morning. I've been using it maybe an hour since I got home from work.
I'm listening to Apple Music classical (don't buy it for phat bass! But you knew that). It's a nice sound scape, a clear and rich sound. I've set it up as new, and on my iCloud account. I've got to say it's nice how the basics of my life are all just here without me thinking about it (that happens with any iCloud device of course)
I'm typing this on the iPad Pro. The keyboard in landscape is pretty close to real keyboard (for a 4-finger typist like me; I imagine a touch typist might want to get the keyboard).
I can't comment on the pencil yet because it's 5 days away.
Anyway, I jumped on here to see what posting on macrumors would be like as a typing experience (pretty good is the answer), and also to say, I'm starting to agree with Tim, that for many, many people, this will replace their PC.
Excellent question, and I was just thinking about that. I think if you do a lot of typing, then you need a keyboard of some sort. Otherwise, gorilla-arm or sore-neck. That's human physiology rather than any system. I'm wondering if a Bluetooth keyboard might not be a better idea, because then you can separate the keyboard and screen even more. I've got another idea as well...How do you hold or angle the iPad while typing? Was at the store today to look at the iPad Pro, and thought the onscreen keyboard looked good enough to type on that perhaps I didn't need the keyboard cover, but couldn't quite envision how I would place the iPad so I could type.
I think I'll wait for the reviews - on here not the mainstream press
Nothing quite like real world usage is there ?
The iPad Pro isn't going to replace a laptop. They can say all they want it can/will but it won't. It's just a larger iPad, other than the Apple Pencil there are no new features and the Pencil is only going to help artists. I have a rMBP, there is no way I would not use that for creating something over the iPad Pro. I still bought one, I want a larger iPad. If Apple was serious about the Pro replacing laptops it would have 256gb of storage or more available. At the very least it needs an SD card slot, but we all know how likely it is that ever happens. lol.
The problem with the Surface 4 is it's not great at being a tablet because, 3-4 years into Windows tablets there still aren't a ton of apps. Which means it's more of a very expensive laptop with a horrible and expensive keyboard, that can be used in tablet mode. And it runs Windows, which gets worse with every version. For the price of a Surface 4 with the keyboard, or the Surface Pro 4 with a keyboard, you can get a superior laptop. There are tradeoffs in everything no matter if it's running OS X, iOS, Windows, or Android.
And I would skip the Apple keyboard for the iPad Pro. If you need/want a keyboard look at the Logitech one. I've had Logitech keyboards for iPads and the Logitech Pro for the Samsung Note Pro and they are great keyboards. They're not as thin as a smart cover like the Apple keyboard but every review I've read so far of the Apple keyboard is highly critical.
Picking up pad today...have to wait 2 weeks for Pencil and Keyboard/Cover?!?
Is it just me or does that make no sense whatsoever? You would think Apple would make damn sure...at the very least...they had a pencil for every pad available...since that is a MAJOR selling point.
iPad is available in area stores today, but no pencil or keyboard. Do I really want the iPad without the accessories now, or wait until later? This is disappointing.
