In this day and age, i'd feel dumb walking into an Apple store asking for a pencil... To which they'd probably reply,,

"Sorry mac, try the supermarket"

So no Pencils in stock at the store when you went? Or a conscious decision on your part to wait for it? Very curious about US store availability.

Yeah they didn't have any. They had 1 that they were using to help customers, but that was it. I am not counting out that some stores may have had a few though. This was the Virginia Beach Apple Store.

When checking in-store availability, does "ships to store" mean anything other than it will be available in-store by Friday?

So I placed my preorder for a 128/LTE, and it's due for delivery on 11/16 -- I wonder if I should stop by the Apple Store as it opens today to see if they have any in stock? I would've ordered for store pickup if I had known they might be in stores today.

I don't have the receipt to post, but I saw in another thread someone posting that Apple has switched over to the holiday return period.

Bought a mini a few days ago; I had been waiting either for BB to get a 128GB/cell in store or the Apple Holiday period to start.

Started Nov 1

Shades of the Apple Watch fiasco (when I waited 58 days for delivery on my Space Black one, after ordering online at 5 min after orders opened), I stayed up last night, waiting past midnight Pacific until about 20 min after, when it became available to order, got the 128 GB with cellular, and am getting Friday, but, keyboard and pencil not coming for a week. REALLY?!?! They learned NOTHING from the Watch rollout. I sincerely doubt they ran out of the pencil and keyboard, if they still shipped my iPad Pro for Friday delivery. I am really disappointed--no way they should not have had stock for shipment or in store purchase. No way.

So here is my well deserved rant about Apple not having the pencil and the keyboard on day one. They are doing it on purpose. Why would they do that? Simply because your iPad Pro will be out of the 14 day return period, that's why! If palm rejection does not work 100%, this whole purchase is useless to me. And, I have no way of knowing that until the pencil ships in 3-4 weeks!

There is not a serious company on this planet that would choose a dumb strategy like that. Especially not Apple. You can disagree all you want with Apple's products and practices but you cannot accuse them of being dumb, and what you are suggesting is exactly that.

And how is your rant deserved?

I went with the free delivery and just got notice that it shipped!
It was originally due to arrive on Monday but now it says TOMORROW!
YIPEEEEE!
And I didn't pay for the expedited...just the free.
How Awesome is that!?

Wow, what time did you order and what part of the world are you in?

I'm not sure what time I actually ordered but my confirmation email from Apple came in at 12:19 a.m. Pacific Time. I am in Southern California.
SO EXCITED!!!
EDIT: It's being delivered by OnTrac and a signature is required.

Please give me a MBP with a Skylake processor, instead of this oversized and overpriced iPad.
You know...I wonder how you will react if apple keeps delaying skylake computer...but instead offer you another iPad pro 2nd gen.

Wow, that's too expensive. How much will it cost the next iPad Mega Pro, $2000?
IMO is much better for designers to use a Wacom tablet connected to a computer. You can buy both for less money than this new Apple toy.

Pencils were always a ship next week in the US, I think. Now you will be waiting until Christmas because delivery is mid December.
Who knows. I don't think they thought it would be a 1 -1 sale (everyone would want one). The pencil ship times slipped way faster than the iPads themselves.

I expect that Apple will quickly catch up considering what the pencil is -- there's nothing exotic about it. Plastic and standard electronics, nothing fancy like finicky taptic engines.

But, what do you wanna bet that there will suddenly be an explosion of Apple Pencil's available on eBay for twice the retail price next week, as the frenzy over Apple's published shipping times escalates?

People tend to forget things easily, I wonder how did we manage to listen to music before the MP3 came out....
I remember the days when having a large music collection meant having a large area of your home devoted to storing the media. I still have a few pieces of furniture that were made especially for storing and displaying record albums, CDs, video cassettes, and DVDs.

I also remember poring through a catalog of hollywood movies that you could rent. All you needed was a 16mm projector and a screen, plus a couple hundred dollars for the rental. I thought it would be really cool to be able to rent a movie and show it in my own home, but I didn't actually rent my first movie until years later when you could rent a video tape for only $8 or so ($21.76 in today's money).

I don't miss the good old days all that much.

Keep checking because mine did that too and the tracking number showed up a couple minutes later.
CONGRATS!

Here in California, mine shipped OnTrac.

I despise OnTrac!

Anyone buy the keyboard case or the smart cover? What is the portion like that magnets onto the side of the Pro? Is it a completely covered material that snaps onto the aluminum so it couldn't scratch, or is there some metal on metal areas?

Oh, a new iToy is available? Oh goodie. Where's the real computers Apple? Oh wait, that's right. Apple gave up on making real computers.

What a completely botched roll out. Probably THE most botched roll out. The big deal with the iPad Pro is the keyboard and pencil, but it is 3-4 weeks shipping in Aus for pencil and keyboard. Makes the iPad Pro just a large fast iPad, not all the hype of it being a laptop replacement etc. Really **** Apple, really ****

Anyone know if the apple pencil will work with an iPad Air 2 in terms of functionality?

I am sure palm rejection will not work, but maybe as a stylus?

I just wonder though, for a lot of people, if we'll end up using it more as a big iPad most of the time. Honestly, if I'm at home, I'm just going to use my desktop, don't really need a keyboard.

Since it is called Pencil for iPad PRO it would suggest it DOES NOT work with the regular iPads
