Anyone know if the apple pencil will work with an iPad Air 2 in terms of functionality?

I am sure palm rejection will not work, but maybe as a stylus?

I think it'd work as a regular stylus, but why would you buy a Pencil just to use it as a stylus? Lots of much cheaper options available for non-Pro iPads.

I ordered my ipad pro this morning after it was up and chose to pick up at store because it said they would have them. I ordered the keyboard and pencil. I received notice the I can pick up my ipad pro but nothing about the keyboard and pencil. Checked my order status and it said my keyboard and pencil order had been cancelled! I was upset. I called Apple and was told that a store worker had cancelled my orders because they had run out of the keyboards and pencils. They told the Apple tech that when they get more in later in the week, they will hold a keyboard and pencil for me. I wish they had sent me some sort of email instead of just cancelling my orders. So frustrating.

Just becasue you don't use pro apps doesn't mean the rest of us don't. Just to list a few;

Autodesk CAD 360 for all of my wireframe 3D models
Autodesk apps for 3D creation
iMovie with 4K video editing
Pixelmator for PSD photoshop editing
Garageband for music creation
pages, number, keynote
Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Photoshop Fix, Mix
Adobe Line and Adobe Draw

And thats just naming a few, but you enjoy your crossy roads at school buddy :p

Yea, but then again, hows that clumsy copy and past of text using your fingers working out for you? Without the precision of a mouse, without the flexibility of an open os where files can moved and manipulated by the user how and where he/she desires, it's not a 'pro' item in my book. Never will be.

There is not a serious company on this planet that would choose a dumb strategy like that. Especially not Apple. You can disagree all you want with Apple's products and practices but you cannot accuse them of being dumb, and what you are suggesting is exactly that.

And how is your rant deserved?

It is well deserved because I am a paying customer. This is basically like ordering Pizza, and having the sauce and the cheese delivered on a different day.

1. They advertise the iPad Pro keyboard here in Germany with a small asterisk remark: available only in layout english (USA).

What happened to you, Apple?! I always have been adoring your products exactly for not having such remarks, for Gods sake!

Besides of that, it is really a bad taste to advertise a keyboard in a country without localising it. Never thought, it would be possible with Apple.
...Well I also never thought, they would come up with a new product lacking an accessory, which is not only vital for that product's success, but should really come bundled with it for that price!

Who at Apple was in charge for that weirdest product launch at all?! First Eddy to drivel around the iPad Pro's killer feature: speakers while visiting websites, then Tim trying to convince us, it is proper PC replacement... Which is NOT.

iPad Pro stands or falls with the pencil. Without the pencil it is freaking fast, but useless giant iPod (at least for me) and I would not even consider upgrading to it, if not the (missing) pencil.

Even the Apple's own business team employees were speechless and ashamed for that faux pas with the pencil today. They actually apologised to us and gave some additional discount.

So f..ing ridiculous...

2. For creative folks, who, by the way, represent a small but most faithful and dedicated Apple's customer base, it is really a punch in the face.

I'll explain:

I wouldn't mind it, if they would have "sold out" all available iPad Pro in minutes, - you know, the usual route of artificial product shortage to drive up the demand. I wouldn't mind to wait in this case.

I either wouldn't mind, if they just postponed the initial launch of it by a week or two in order to match iPads and accessory supplies.

But I do mind, that they try to fool me that cheap.

It is like selling you a computer without a mandatory proprietary mouse or a Cintiq with no pen and no chance getting one soon...

Pencil is an accessory, which should be available in sufficient numbers, like those magic mice or trackpads. The key difference is: it is a vital accessory.

Apple store Frankfurt (business team) told us today, that they only had a handful of pencils shipped that day.
Hello?! At product launch, even such a sneaky one?!

Apple online business store told me, that they didn't remember selling any of the pencils today and still those are unavailable.

Actually I heard a remarkable sentence from the business team employee, while he was apologising for that mess:

"since Steve Jobs death it is all going crazy down here, everything turned very chaotic, - we sincerely apologise and are embarrased for not being able to offer you an Apple Pencil, like advertised. We have absolutely no explanation for this".

Maybe I am too emotional about this. But... ahh.... to hell with it.

love this big boy!! Ordered as soon as it was available and picked it up tonight. LOVE IT! As most have said, no pencil and no keyboard but they did have a Logitech Keyboard instead so I purchased that one until I can get a look at the apple one. So far I love the logitech one, backlite and the keyboard is situated very nicely. SO HAPPY! Now to wait on the pencil and yes, it's weird to not have the accessories available at launch especially when they had the Logitech one instead. :) I am now going to sell my Mac Air as with this keyboard it's even nicer then the air!

So here is my well deserved rant about Apple not having the pencil and the keyboard on day one. They are doing it on purpose. Why would they do that? Simply because your iPad Pro will be out of the 14 day return period, that's why! If palm rejection does not work 100%, this whole purchase is useless to me. And, I have no way of knowing that until the pencil ships in 3-4 weeks!
i beleieve holiday return periods are in effect right now so you have until Jan to return. Thats what they told me when I bought the Logitech keyboard for my ipad pro. Good news!

Yep, it's good news because once you get into iPad Pro size and price range, you might as well choose between a MacBook and an iPad, and the extra time should help early adapters decide.

Or you could just wait till both items are in stock and have the full 14 day return period. Option 2: If you are close enough to an Apple store you might be able to have a hands on in store to test it all out first.

drag two fingers on the soft-keyboard to select text on the ipad. 6s -> force touch on soft-keyboard to select text. both show a mouse pointer.

Yeah you using an iPad Pro for the last month or so really qualifies that statement.

I don't need to use an overpriced iPad Pro for 1 month to know how I'm going to use it. Because basically, I'm going to use it exactly how I use it with my current iPad... And that is, browsing the web, and watching videos. I'm pretty sure that a lot of general consumers will use the same way as I do.

What's your point?

Wow, it looks like the smart keyboard and the apple pencil have just slipped even further to 4 - 5 weeks in the US...

A very welcome tap on the wrist:

OMG the tracking number just came online and it's actually coming from Sydney. Which has always meant it will be here next day, so tomorrow! So maybe lots of NZ people can look forward to the same...

I'm guessing a manufacturing issue somewhere maybe. Apple doesn't usually talk about such things, but it happens sometimes. Seems most likely to me.
Or maybe a glitch in the ordering system. In which case delivery times will be brought forward as it gets sorted. I can't imagine it was planned, anyway.

Just curious… can someone here justify the price of the silicone case? :D

Have you noticed that in order to get iPad Pro completely protected you need a case plus cover, total of 140$ :D

My point exactly… I can understand $99 for a pencil, I can stretch my imagination to rationalize $59 for smart cover, but $79 for a piece of silicone???

Greedier by the day. And that's in the US, EU prices are higher :O
