There are way more cons than those such as power consumption, Max brightness, Pixel density, and more.
OLED typically uses less power than mini-LED

As for pixel density, there is no difference between OLED and mini-LED. That is based on screen size and resolution, not the tech of the panel.

I'll give you max brightness. mini-LED typically does win there.

Can you give us the more?

Not true for the power consumption. In reality, OLED does consume more because of display size, resolution, and brightness and OLED TV already proven that. This is why EU restricted the power consumption of OLED TV because it consume twice more than LCD TV. If you are gonna argue with smartphone's OLED, they are totally different.

You didnt get the point. High pixel density will cause higher power consumption and lower pixel lifespan, especially the blue pixel. Since even OLED TV with bigger pixel will have burn in within 10~20 months, imagine how long will it take to have burn-in with smaller display and high resolution. Moreover, with 13~32 inch display with high resolution? It will be extremely expensive as it's a niche market and literally not profitable.

OLED for 13~32 inch is a niche market and even now, it's quite rare and even if it's there, the display specs are poor.

Then 13” OLEDs need more support and development for the tech to improve, what better way than to have Apple - the king of picky QC and low yield acceptance - order millions of displays for a very popular product. Way more popular than any OLED display 13”-32” sold. I can’t think of any customer that would push LG or Samsung to produce better results. And with Apple’s latest updates to address image retention on iOS devices, I’m sure they’re paying careful attention to any iPad OLED in development now. Putting in orders for 10s of millions of screens tells me they’ve figured most of it out, and have waited this long because the tech wasn’t exactly ready yet.

Some more differences between the two technologies

OLED
  • Pros: Perfect black levels, infinite contrast ratio, wide viewing angles, fast response time, low input lag
  • Cons: Can be expensive, susceptible to burn-in
Mini LED
  • Pros: Very high brightness levels, excellent contrast ratio, good viewing angles, fast response time, low input lag, less expensive than OLED
  • Cons: Not perfect black levels, not infinite contrast ratio, not as wide viewing angles as OLED
If you want the best possible picture quality, OLED is the way to go. However, OLED can be expensive, and is susceptible to burn-in.

Mini LED is a good alternative to OLED, especially if you're on a budget. Mini LED offers excellent picture quality, with very high brightness levels and a good contrast ratio. They are also less susceptible to burn-in than OLEDs.
This is written by AI, correct?

Fully agree, and often overlooked by people who criticize Apple as "late to the market / not innovating / etc ". I'm developing an app currently, and taking the same approach. Rather slow and great product than fast and sub-par quality. The world deserves good quality

I hope it doesn't have the blooming issues like the current 12".
Blooming is known for Mini-Led at that high brightness when viewing light pixels on dark backgrounds, so yeah if I'm not mistaken the difference will be huge with OLED

Great thank you - we use red text on black backgrounds in our ereaders at night, and my wife's 12 is horrible. There's no even background - the letters all have a halo around them, and then the 'blackspace' is truly black (versus a nice warm glow like on my 11).

Apple knows how to fix burn ins with software updates.

I'm a little worried about burn in considering how long stuff on computers just sits there all the time (Taskbar for sure) but if you never turn your brightness up past 50% is it much less of an issue? I assume Apple will implement some anti burn in features to help as well, I think i've heard OLED is much better at that now overall vs years ago, tho perhaps that's just TVs?

the iPad is more of a giant iPhone than a Mac (sadly). The iPhone has had OLED for years with minimal issues.

Not sure on going thinner unless they strengthen the chassis, Don’t want bending like the Gen 3&4 suffered
But bring on a 13” or 14” OLED

Much as I want a space black MBP 14” I’m gonna hold out for this next iPad Pro. Hoping for a screen size jump, Apple Pencil 3, and redesigned Magic Keyboard with function row. I just don’t really need macOS anymore. Everything is going app based and touch interface (combined with the keyboard when needed) is a much better set up for me.

There are quite a number of OLED laptops: https://www.oled-info.com/oled-devices/laptops

The OLED monitor market has tripled since last year and is projected to again at least double next year: https://www.oled-info.com/trendforece-over-million-oled-monitors-ship-2024
Doesn't mean they are in great quality just like Mac's display. Most of them are still providing low brightness and low quality of OLED due to pixel density and burn-in so it's quite pointless for high quality or professional display market. Even BenQ and Eizo aren't using OLED for professional uses.

By the way, here is the allegedly leaked Apple OLED roadmap:

Just my opinion. Apple should concentrate less on different hardware for the iPad Pro as it is really good already. Put more effort into make the Pro have a Pro level OS. I'm not sure if OLED has the same 'burn in" issues or how much they have improved but I am not sure I would want to spend a lot of money on an iPad or Mac with an OLED panel.

Its not garbage... Jelly scrolling is a minor issue too. I have a mini and the screen, in my opinion would benefit from the higher contrast ratio of OLED more than anything else. Id take that over 'promotion' or no 'jelly scroll'.

Sorry. It’s garbage

It’s by far the worst screen sold on any current Apple device.

I would have to see the OLED in person if I'm even going to consider upgrading from my M1 12.9 iPad Pro. Not like I really need more power so it's really about the screen. If it's more or less the same, not going to bother upgrading but we'll see
