Hi guys,
this new iPad Pro is really nice but I think that if you can't run OS X on it, it's not so pro...

The high price is probably set for "Pro" users who make a living off these devices. They probably will use it to make $1500 each month easy, and from what I know businesses make so much money they don't care for high priced equipement/toys.

But at that price point and for a "Pro" user, you might as well go with the Surface book which is "Pro"er than this.

Those who are complaining about prices should see pricing of Cintiq WACOM tablets 13 inch - its 999 dollars yet iPad is far more powerful and can do many more functions.

Secondly, I think that starting from larger ipad pro and then to mini, the sensor technology will come to smaller iPads, together with Pencil. It is too good to be reserved only to iPad Pros.

In that case, Pro will have further differentating things from the rest of iPad line - probably, X chips, 4 speakers, USB-C port port, for instance, while iPad Air and Mini will have only A chips, 2 speakers and Lightning ports.

It means that an interesting possibility exists of forking iPad OS further down the line, with the possibility of having a specialized iPadOS ala TvOS and WatchOS. I think its very badly needed.

1 - mobile apps do not have the power nor scope of functionality that you get on desktop/notebook based systems.
2 - Docks are used for far more than just file transfer. Love hooking my SurfacePro to my UHD tv - especially if I am doing document work. Wireless is good, but it doesn't work well for all things.

Yes, mobile and desktop apps are different. Having said that, when A10X chips will easily beat Intel Core i5 and i7, the mobile apps might become faster and more powerful than desktop ones.

I am not againts docks. However, with Apple's technology you don't need docks to mirror TV and etc. - any appleTV even older generations, will do it (don't remember about docs, but for movies and etc for sure).

Any Windows machines is not Proer than the specialized Pencil and sensor system of Pro. Indeed, Surface's drawing capabilities are far worse.

If it had OS X (and it could have it), I think I'd buy it. But with iOS I pass. It's a toy, with poor usability and with Apple pressure into making us put all our private stuff in iCloud.

Sorry Apple, no OS X, no deal. And my patience with Apple is getting to its limit.

Absolutely in the right timeframe right now to buy a new iPad and also wanting a MacBook.

Passing on the iPad Pro. Air 2 will suffice and be the largest size required for great reading (contemplating a mini) but getting a MacBook for work purposes by using Keynote and other laptop applications, especially the great new keyboard and form factor. Pro seems too big. Definitely not an average user device. Will still sell a lot though I'm sure.

Jailbroken iOS unleashes these features and shows how good iOS could be. Finder, Terminal, file access, and even a greatly implemented mouse support etc. - it's all there.

mhh sorry... i dont buy a machine that needs to be jailbroken to work as it should for this price.

im not talking about simple file access, im pretty sure, that you cant browse the filesystem with apps like word, powerpoint, photoshop etc... and thats what you need to be productive.

Apple needs to take an L on this device, but that means sheep need to not support a product that has almost no place in the market. iPad Pro should absolutely have an OS that differs from iOS by a great measure. As it stands, however, the iPad Pro is the product of laziness from a comfortable and overly confident Apple team.

I doubt it's so much this as wanting to not lose access to the vast library of existing apps. They can't very well go to Adobe and Microsoft and say, "Please make a third complete version of your software suite to support our new, unproven OS." Maybe you could argue they should provide an emulation mode or something, but it's not clear that's a better strategy than what they are trying to do here, which is evolve iOS incrementally towards greater capability without leaving developers behind.

Another thing is they want to avoid a Windows 8/RT debacle where they would simply guess what the market wants in a hybrid OS and then throw it out there. Instead, they are putting out the device with a slightly evolved iOS, waiting to hear from the users what the biggest pain points and bang-for-the-buck improvements would be. Unlike the strategy with the watch, it isn't a Jobs-style approach at all, but at this stage of the game it seems like a smart one. Especially since the software side of the house seems to be reaching its limits in terms of delivering clean, bug-free releases.

IPad Pro A9X chip outshines easily Intel i5 in single core benchmarks.

IPad Pro can do three 4k video streams editing simultaneously. Surface 4 can't edit even just one 4k video stream.

Graphics: Surface 4: mostly a meager integrated Intel videocard, iPad Pro with a dedicated A9X graphics chip which smokes Intel - Pad Pro's framerate for the Manhattan OpenGL animation is faster than the fastest MacBook Pro and Surface

Audio: iPad Pro 4 microprocessor-managed stereo speakers for balanced output in any position. Surface 4: 2 speakers

Add OS comparison: iOS a true mobile OS with best battery efficiency, Surface - well, its Windows with Start button back and all its driver problems, etc

I think there is too much emphasis on the idea that the iPad Pro has to replace the laptop/desktop or else it is useless. The iPad Pro can be complementary to these other devices, not necessarily a substitute. I am an academic and I use the iPad to teach, screen casting my lectures with the Explain Everything app. I have always been thinking that I would like a larger iPad with more space to write, and be able to split view so I can show my notes next to information from a website or an academic paper. I also use the iPad to take notes (Notability) and read academic papers (GoodReader). And for a long time I wished to have a device where I could write my notes/drawings while having the paper open on the side, again split view. I also find the styluses available on the market to be less good than a pen/pencil on a piece of paper. The iPad Pro solves these problems, so I am very interested. I like the iPad to do things that are different from the things I do on my desktop/laptop (writing lecture notes, slides, papers, programming, email). I don't like one better than the other, I like them both.

Good good.
But not great if you can't do anything with all that power. iOS right now is horrible. That fact that you have to return to a desktop to get anything meaningful done means that the "Pro" is wasting all that Oomph.

Pro should mean the ability to do everything from one machine and that machine should be able to take whatever you throw at it.

Specs are a lot but they're not everything.

Lol @ 12 inches of viewing space between each app's icon. They're not even trying anymore.

Lol @ the CEO of Apple stating that this will kill notebooks and laptops for a lot of people. In what world? Maybe if they built a functional file-management system and renamed the OS iOS Pro or iOS iPad or something. As it currently stands, you cannot save most files except pictures or documents and it's entirely useless because it requires third-party apps to open or import/export most of it all anyway.

There is no way this compares to Microsoft Tablet. It is good to remember that Surface has a full copy of windows running, even being Windows. Don't get me wrong, I do love Apple stuff. I do have an ipad mini and I love it. But also there is no way you may compare a full OS to IOS or Android. The ipad Pro should be an awesome tool, but in my humble opinion IOS has nothing to do with OS X. Please do remember that OSX is BSD and Unix rules them all.

Can't see how this could replace my MacBook Pro to be honest
My point exactly. As soon as they solve the issue with safe file access for those iOS and Android, maybe I change my concept, but until them, there is nothing like OS X and of course BSD behind it.

Thank-you for sharing the limitations of your vision. :)

And thank you for sharing the limitations of your needs and uses.

Beyond that, multitasking (real multitasking) on the iPP is either a joke or an aspiration, as well as an ergonomic mess.

All you guys who are so much smarter than Apple, and are pointing out all the design flaws of the products, must make a ton of money since you are so smart. Then why do you bitch about the price of the devices and say they are too expensive for you to buy?

Am I allowed to comment on how this is uninspiring and pretty damn dull?
I would love for Apple to come out with something new and exciting. It would make my trips to Cupertino far more fun.

Wow. The cpu benchmarcks are catching up to Intel. And the gpu is ahead.

I didn't think they were that close or they weren't last time I checked. Pretty amazing if those numbers are accurate.

As some reviews said, the only thing stopping iOS from taking over is iOS.

I'm sensing an iOS notebook. That keyboard cover is also a weakpoint of the iPad Pro from the looks of it.
