That's it? That's your rebuttal?

No, I couldnt care less what you think. Anyway, I think you misunderstood my point originally. Have a nice day.

Your tone contradicts your statement. Anyway, it doesn't matter - have a lovely week :)

I would say it's the same reason why Apple went form IBM/Moto G5 to intel. Performance per watt. Those A9X's are duel core. Imagine a quad core, or dual quad cores performance. It may not rival a Xeon at 4GHz. But, it may not have to. The integrated graphics in the A9X is already better then intel. Maybe not full Nvidia 980 or Titan power but, why couldn't it be? Apple has always like having full control over all the hardware. This setup already runs OpenCL and Metal API. All the apps are well known on how to make and program for. Apple also showed everyone how to make apps that run both PPC and X86-64. This wouldn't be impossible by any stretch. You could get a Mac Pro cylinder half the size and the same performance as the current model. If they wanted to of course.

But to who's benefit? Yeah, Apple might get even more control on its Mac line and maybe grab more profit, but is it really good for consumer? It is notnlike changing to ARM will make Macs drastically cheaper? Why would I pay same price for the same performance today 3 years after? A9X equals to ultra low voltage Core M processor, it is nowhere close to Core i5 or Core i7, why would Apple want do that?

When Apple switch from G5 to Intel, Intel processor provided enough power to emulate old PowerPC processor, I found it hard to believe ARM processor able to provide adequate power to emulate large x86 programs or without significantly slow down the whole computer.

And for me, the day Aplle switch Mac to ARM processor, it is day for me to kiss goodbye fr Mac.

Tim Cook - iPad sales have been going down for years.....lets make a bigger one. o_O
So how would they do that? iOS doesn't run on Intel chips and OS X doesn't run on ARM. Apple would have to emulate one platform. That would affect performance and battery life. Plus, OS X isn't optimized for touch and none of its applications are.

If they had done what you said, there would be lots of complaints about how awful the experience is. And they'd be right.

Most of the "it should run OS X" complaints come down to the lack of a visible central file system and the higher degree of sandboxing in iOS vs OS X that limits developers. What would be better would be to push Apple to make an enhanced iOS for the iPad Pro.

I agree, it looks silly at the moment. But I believe that Apple will make changes to iOS that will greatly improve things... not just for the iPad Pro, but for all iPads.

one can hope but if releasing an ipad pro (with all the publicity and scrutiny) dosent make them do it then what and when will?

its almost 6 years since the ipad got released and besides the newly added split view not much has been done to make better use of much bigger real estate.

Apple needs to make a custom os for ipad. iOS is a hindrance for the ipad line. Are they can at the very minimum, have a file system on the ipad. If a low end Samsung phone is capable of having a file system, Apple can put one on their high end tablet.

Apple is just being lazy now.

and what is benefit of file system in iPhone? you have already one in iCloud, onedrive and dropbox.

File system enables you to easily add and delete files on the devices. Cloud storage isn't always accessible or practical.

Not only that, ios has restrictions when it comes to 3rd party cloud storage integration.

File system makes it easier to organizer files on your phone and everything.

I'm pretty sure that Apple has a roadmap for their devices that introduces new features each generation. Often, those features already exist and they're waiting for cost of components to meet certain thresholds, quality yields to attain certain levels, and perhaps most importantly, allow for huge amounts of sales for each generation as they introduce these incrementally.

If they throw everything but the kitchen sink into the 1st gen they'll receive a single windfall and then be under the gun to improve on that. But do so incrementally, and they'll sell many, many more units over the same period of time.

The scrutiny on the iPad Pro hasn't stopped people from buying one sight-unseen. Some were more interested in getting it day-1 rather than waiting and being able to see one and try one in a local retail store. Only if the sales fall short of Apple's internal targets AND competitors continue to gain will Apple do something along the lines of what some of us are advocating.

I don't see how deleting your files on a device makes that device Pro. Deleting, moving and copying files are taken care by system by individual applications, and IMHO thats good.

I didn't say it would make it pro. But it would make it more productive in its current state. It is easier to have a file finder where all file are located rather than go into a bunch of different applications to edit or move files.

A pro ipad from Apple would be a device that runs osx of ios. iOS is great for smartphones but too restrictive for tablets.

My point was that the minimum Apple could do is to have a file system.

But you can do that in iCloudDrive. You have your bunch of files there. So what?

i too would have thought they had a roadmap but sometimes you really have to wonder.

but making better use of real estate is not the "kitchen sink" its logical and it highlights both lack of thinking with ios as well as the ipad (which now come in 3 different sizes) and if thats a feature then deary me.

But maybe I don't want iCloud Drive? Why should I have to use a cloud drive when I have 64gb internal storage? Not only that I don't get the best cell service at my job so if I need an important file I can't retrieve because it's in my cloud drive.

Understandably so. Which is why I suggested an advanced version of iOS or just something that's more powerful than what iOS is currently. I'm not in the tech industry so my knowledge of what can be done is limited but hopefully Apple is in the works of something.

To say the iPad Pro will replace notebooks and desktops is kind of crazy. The iPad replaced my notebook usage because I only surf the web, email, and media. But to say the Pro can do more than basic tasks is quite misleading as long as iOS is under the hood.
I don't believe the iPad needs an advance version of iOS. I believe that anything the iPad pro does should be available this iPhones. Imagine if a enhanced version of Mac OS X existed for the Mac Pro. I can see the outcries already! I do agree that Apple needs to implement more features on iOS but I don't believe iOS has to act exactly like Mac OS X either.

At this point I'm basically fully of the belief that iPad needs to run a separate version of iOS. I just can't see the iPad as a proper productivity device until it has the basic features of a desktop environment. I'm not saying it needs to run OS X and have a desktop with programs, but it just needs more of the basic features of an actual computer. To me, the iPad really is still just a 'giant iPod touch' - to use the phrase coined when iPad first launched. Apple have done very little to separate it off as a true productivity device.

As a photographer, I could not replace my MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro. I need a file system and to be able to move files between external hard drives and back ups. It really, actually hurts me to say it but I feel Microsoft got this category of product far more right than Apple ever has, with the Surface Pro. Apple just don't seem to get what real users need out of a productivity device.

An idea I just had that might improve productivity on iPad:

An default app simply called 'Finder'. You open the app and it displays rows of folders, maybe one for iCloud drive, one for your photo library, maybe even one for your music library. But the real feature here would be a sidebar in which could be displayed any and all external device with a storage facility attached to the iPad via lightening. You could then click into one and be presented with the file system within that device, all its files and folders. You could open each one and then have the option to open any file in a specific iPad app, so long as said file was compatible with said productivity app (think Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Photoshop Touch etc) However, you could also open up two connected external devices at once and drag files between them.

Of course, all of this would require the iPad to either have more ports or have a way of attaching multiple devices via Lightening in a daisy chain. It's clumsy, but would be another step towards the iPad actually competing with the Surface Pro. I think the distant disadvantage the iPad has is that it's lacking too many of the basic features of a desktop environment which people need to actually get stuff done.
