All you guys who are so much smarter than Apple, and are pointing out all the design flaws of the products, must make a ton of money since you are so smart. Then why do you bitch about the price of the devices and say they are too expensive for you to buy?

A little sensitive are you? People aren't saying they can't afford the iPad Pro (well some may be but they are not the point). It's that, for what the iPad Pro is, it's too expensive. There's a difference if you stop and think about it.

Also, being smart does not necessarily equate to a high paying job. As the iPad Pro is targeted to artists, as we all know, the term "starving artists" means most artists don't have a lot of disposable income.

Went to Apple Store to view it and wow that's one huge iPad. I could hold it in one hand but not for general tasks. That extra size is great for a lot but does appear to big even for just around the house.

Will happily wait for the air 3

iPad Pro will replace a PC for the most basic tasks - browsing, email, listening to music, light word processing, spreadsheets. Anything more complex and you'd be struggling with an iPad Pro.

You just described the ipad air2 which is already there. This is just a faster and bigger version.

No... ARM is no where near x86 in performance... Maybe A9 close to one found in MacBook, but it no where near Core i5/i7 found in MacBook Pro or Mac Pro... And to give up x86, means every x86 program need to run in emulated environment, the end result is slowing everything down.

And, why do you want Apple change from Intel to ARM? It isn't ARM drastically faster than Intel, why would changes things that isn't necessary?

I would say it's the same reason why Apple went form IBM/Moto G5 to intel. Performance per watt. Those A9X's are duel core. Imagine a quad core, or dual quad cores performance. It may not rival a Xeon at 4GHz. But, it may not have to. The integrated graphics in the A9X is already better then intel. Maybe not full Nvidia 980 or Titan power but, why couldn't it be? Apple has always like having full control over all the hardware. This setup already runs OpenCL and Metal API. All the apps are well known on how to make and program for. Apple also showed everyone how to make apps that run both PPC and X86-64. This wouldn't be impossible by any stretch. You could get a Mac Pro cylinder half the size and the same performance as the current model. If they wanted to of course.

I'm personally in the market for one. I have an iPad 2 that definitely needs to be replaced. I wanted a bigger screen, and something that can multitask in the iPad size range for some time. I don't need the pencil as of yet, and the smart keyboard cover will work out for me just fine for my needs. For those that lover there iPads but, wanted a bit more and a bit under a full laptop. This will work out great for those users. It's super portable, and last longer then any laptop could given how much power it has to work with. If you want a small laptop the Air will work out just fine or the MB. But, you also have to remember there is no touch screen MacBook of any kind. This is pretty much it. So for those too that need that ability, this thing will be great.

Don't even bother. A lot of people are so convinced that "apple knows best" that they get enraged when anyone mentions the price per product point.

Lack of USB ports is the #1 issue keeping my wife from ditching her laptop for an iPad Pro. I suppose we could try to find (and pay for, and carry around) some lightning-to-USB adapter. And also a lightning-to-SD adapter. And make sure to use that only when we aren't charging.

Or Apple could get their collective heads out of the sand and include external storage ports.

mhh sorry... i dont buy a machine that needs to be jailbroken to work as it should for this price.

im not talking about simple file access, im pretty sure, that you cant browse the filesystem with apps like word, powerpoint, photoshop etc... and thats what you need to be productive.

Once you've gotten used to a jailbroken system, going back to unjailbroken feels like going from iOS 15 to iOS 5. One of my favourite features is that I never have to physically push the home button, I just have to touch it. If you're used to that, having to push it feels so antiquated. A lot of people consider a jailbreak a liability but I see it the other way around. I want to install a Firewall and different other security enhancing apps (like Protect My Privacy, NoTracking+, Adblocker 2) to feel safe on my idevice. It's really shocking to see to how many severs all kinds of different apps connect (even though they don't need an internet connection to function). But it also greatly enhances comfort, style and capabilities.
But it's not for everybody, you should enjoy getting into it or have somebody do it for you.

This image is proof of how ridiculous the iPad Pro is. The massive space wasted between the icons, the fact Apple couldn't bother to change iOS even so slightly so the iPad Pro would have more icons in its main screen... Those are symptons of the same disease, and that disease is iOS. It's ridiculous that Apple didn't bother to make massive changes to iOS so it would fit the iPad Pro, and instead insists on using the same iPhone interface, just with more wasted empty space.

I agree, it looks silly at the moment. But I believe that Apple will make changes to iOS that will greatly improve things... not just for the iPad Pro, but for all iPads.

My critique on the iPad Pro is not the hardware. I readily admit - it is beautiful and Apple has done an outstanding job with their interpretation of the ARM architecture with the A9. All brilliant.

However, to achieve the goals laid out by Tim Cook - they need to put a lot of work into iOS and the iOS Apple apps to take advantage of that hardware goodness to make this a stand out product. It is possible to make this an extension of the home/work desktop and be the ultimate portable computing device. But Apple needs to put as much effort into their SOFTWARE.

Now - I tried one at an apple store and was able to log into my Office 365 account and got access to all of my work files (one drive) and the related web based office apps. So the power is there - but I want Apple's software to be just as good.

I also want them to continue investing in OS X and OS X apps. They have the money and brains - just do it Apple!

I hope they do - the base of iOS is OS X they should be able to add the needed capability to make this product stand out. It is not impossible and to add functionality to pages, numbers, keynote, notes, mail, and calendar. I think they need a modified iOS for the iPad given what they want to do with it.

iOS on a bigger screen! Whoopty friggin do.

Apple dropped the ball on this iPad "pro" by not making iOS more advanced or making an iOS/OSX hybrid. This thing has the same functionality of my 6s except on a much larger screen. Oh wait, it doesn't even have force touch!

Embarrassing.

Actually Apple has proved that their fastest ARM is as fast as the slowest intel x86. :)

Not really - "MacBook Air-class CPU performance and MacBook Pro-class GPU performance" Link

Apple went from buying all their CPU's to custom ARM chips that have caught x86's in a few short years.

As John Gruber said in Daring Fireball - "The entire x86 computer architecture is living on borrowed time. It’s a dead platform walking. The future belongs to ARM, and Apple’s A-series SoC’s are leading the way."

So we needed some journo to confirm we don't need to throw our Desktop computers away just yet? Right; thanks for that...

Did they? Did they really? No they didn't; each platform is exclusive and finely tuned to what it does best - touch for a touch device, Desktop features and behaviour on a Desktop device. If you thought about that a little deeper and from an (un)common sense perspective, you'd come to the same conclusion as Apple have - to "merge" them is to detract and dilute either/both device.

When we get the "oh wait" replies, we know we have a sarcastic, template know-it-all reply.

No, I'm looking at it in a realistic point of view and not in an "Apple designed it so it's the best" kind of attitude. I have purchased and used almost every Apple device since it's birth so I'm an Apple fan. What does the Pro truly bring to the table? When Tim Cook says the Pro is a desktop/notebook replacement you better be damn sure consumers are going to expect that. You really think iOS at this point can achieve that? Can iOS file manage in the same way OSX does? That is my point.

Get off your high horse and condescending attitude while you're at it.

You want Tim Cook's email address? I ain't Tim Cook, and I really don't give a hoot, whereas he DOES (possibly, don't count on that).

That's it? That's your rebuttal?

No, I couldnt care less what you think. Anyway, I think you misunderstood my point originally. Have a nice day.

There was one company that merged desktop/laptop OS with a tablet OS. It was called Windows 8 and it flopped big time because that idea was horrible. It'll always be a gimped device.

Understandably so. Which is why I suggested an advanced version of iOS or just something that's more powerful than what iOS is currently. I'm not in the tech industry so my knowledge of what can be done is limited but hopefully Apple is in the works of something.

To say the iPad Pro will replace notebooks and desktops is kind of crazy. The iPad replaced my notebook usage because I only surf the web, email, and media. But to say the Pro can do more than basic tasks is quite misleading as long as iOS is under the hood.
