So we will hear a lot from Apple on how amazing mini LED is, to just have it updated later on a year to OLED? That’s a bit strange!
They released a new MacBook Air eight months ago. You need to think like a ceo. What maximizes revenue?

I think I read somewhere that mini led is not as good as oled (doesn't achieve the blacks oled has).So we will hear a lot from Apple on how amazing mini LED is, to just have it updated later on a year to OLED? That’s a bit strange!
Also Samsung has been putting out OLED tablets for a couple of years now, and they don’t seem to have a lot of problems with burn-in.I'm going to add my own input to this and argue that OLED is better. The iPhone 11 Pros and iPhone 12 Pros are OLED screens that go up to 800 nits of sustained brightness and something like 1200 nits of HDR brightness, which are both brighter than any current iPad screen (the current best iPad screens are around 625 nits of brightness iirc).
Mini LED has contrast zones, which allow for groups of pixels to turn on/off together, which does provide better contrast than current LCD screens. HOWEVER, it's still not as good as the pure black contrast of OLED, which can turn on/off every single individual pixel. Therefore, I think that OLED will get plenty bright enough while offering the best contrast possible.
The only advantage of Mini LED over OLED, to me, is the fact that you don't have to worry about burn-in with Mini LED like you do with OLED. However, Apple's OLED technology seems to prevent burn-in very well. I've seen very few reports of OLED burn-in on Apple devices, even with the iPhone X being 3 years old at this point.
Sure, but no big jumps as seen on the Intel to M1 transistion.I’m figuring that the A14 and more efficient mini LED will help with battery life.
Get ready to cycle your Apple products way more often if Apple decides to use OLED for all their screened devices.
It already started with iPhone. Make sure you're on that iPhone forever (or whatever) plan, or sell it upon every iPhone release, because in two years your phone's screen is going to look like garbage.
Lease everything, own nothing. This is the Apple (iOS) way forward.
MicroLED isn’t free of issues either. One problem is that the color primaries are so narrow (frequency spike) that it amplifies the individual differences in color perception. Meaning for example that what looks like a neutral gray to one person will look less neutral to another person. This is less of a problem with other display technologies because the color primaries spread over a wider frequency range (less “spikey”).Agreed, microLED is just "the best". But we're few years away from iPads rocking it.
It’s not implausible that Apple will go with miniLED for the Pros and with OLED for the non-Pros (or vice versa, or 11” vs 13”). That will be easier for them to handle in terms of manufacturing capacities, and they can test both technologies in the market that way.I'm surprised there are a handful of people doubting this from the get go. I just bought a 2020 Macbook Air... and then Apple decided to release the M1 6-7 months later. I wouldn't put this type of release past Apple at this point.
Tons of people will probably buy the mini-LED version... and then tons of other people will buy the OLED version later in the year... 😂
That's fair, but seems like a surprising development. I see it more likely Pros go Mini and then in a few years the cheaper lines do right before the pro goes micro. I don't really see why they would bother putting OLED in a non-pro.It’n not implausible that Apple will go with miniLED for the Pros and with OLED for the non-Pros (or vice versa, or 11” vs 13”). Almost the same processor. No it didn’t retain same processor
Of course even samsung fixed the burn-in after iphone x was release. They copied apple approach to walk around the burn in.Also Samsung has been putting out OLED tablets for a couple of years now, and they don’t seem to have a lot of problems with burn-in.
Of course not since at oled display where is black is just pixels that doesnt goes on, stays dead. So black level is 0I think I read somewhere that mini led is not as good as oled (doesn't achieve the blacks oled has).
Agree, hard to do when you've been burned with some of the refresh cycles though.I think this teaches everyone, not to wait for what’s coming next as it may well take over a year...
plenty of people put off getting the iPad Pro in 2020 thinking a new one would come in late 2020, that never came, so then decided to wait until March 2021, now if this rumour is any way true they could potentially now be waiting until October 2021.
It holds true if you need it or want it now, get it now... don’t wait unless there are strong leaks of an imminent product launch.
