Not looking forward to screen flicker, PWM and eye strain :(
Will not buy another iPad for a long time then.

My iPhone X that was given to me by my employer has been sitting in a drawer for the last three years because of this. Still using my iPhone 8.

3 iPad upgrades on space of a year? Very hard to see

why upgrade 12.9 for mini led only to bring oled? Not convinced
Yeah the more I think about it, the more I believe they do one major iPad Pro update next year which will probably include A14X (M1) and new display tech. I think the problem is what can improve upon other than display tech and processor over the 2020 iPad Pro? It’s a future looking design, has LiDAR, cameras etc already. What can they do to improve the Apple Pencil 2 either?

That could mean anything or nothing.

If Apple introduces new iPad Pros in March, it is unlikely they will introduce new ones again later in 2021.
So if this OLED product is true, it is likely not an "iPad Pro" but a new device.

If it is a foldable iPad it may not be called "iPad Pro" but rather "iPad Fold".
Or if it is a new hybrid Mac/iPad device it may also not be called "iPad Pro" but some form of "Mac" hardware name.
In both cases the above statement is technically still true if they produce OLED panels in 2021 for such a device.

Hard to say.

My take on this:

Apple has tested both a miniLED and an OLED iPad Pro in the 12.9-inch form factor. Because Kuo gets his information from the supply chain, he is getting information about both designs and is hedging his bets by reporting both.
But this rumour isn’t from Kuo is it?

Also Samsung has been putting out OLED tablets for a couple of years now, and they don’t seem to have a lot of problems with burn-in.
Yea because no one uses android tablets 2 weeks after they buy them, they realized they made a mistake and get a iPad, or they just don’t use them
That is why there have been no reports of burn in have been reported,

This makes no sense at all and i hate to say it, sounds like someone is just making stuff up to get a clickbait headline out (Not saying MacRumors im saying the original source).

Here's what i likely see happening. We will get a new Ipad Pro with some kind of upgraded screen, but it will most likely be in the fall of 2021. Why? 18 months since the last one. I just got the 2020 a month ago and i love it, (I do wish it had HDR Playback like my iphone but thats a minor nit pick). It came out in March of 2020, the product usually has a year to 18 month life cycle (almost always closer to 18 months) so at the soonest i see this happening based on past experence is maybe in the summer!

will it be OLED or MiniLED i have no idea...I prefer OLED because i hear MiniLED have blooming issues but then again i might be confused on that front!
This 2020 update is an "extended-life" update though. Just like iPad 3 and 4, only 6 months apart.

Just go oled until they can do micro led. Not sure why they should have two different kinds of screens in the iPads?? They just converted all the phones this year to oled.
Patents and display royaties. Apple doesn't "own" OLED technology.

I genuinely feel bad for people that suffer from this, and in no way am I trying to trivialize it for those who do suffer from PWM, but there simply can’t be that many people as almost every smartphone available is OLED now. I have thankfully never suffered from PWM with my 11 Pro and don’t know anyone who does suffer from PWM, and almost everyone I know has an iPhone X or newer iPhone with an OLED, or flagship android phone.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s one thing miniLED and microLED can’t do: fold. (as far as we know?)

If Apple’s foldable in 2022 is an iPad, it would probably use OLED.

Apple did patent a foldable device using micro-LED displays in 2019, but that is not a reflection of how "ready-to-market" such a technology is (I expect it is not very) so I agree that any foldable Apple device released in the next few years would use an OLED display.

I'm a bit confused here.
Why all the hate for a OLED iPad?
All the iPhones have OLED screens and I'm not hearing massive complaints about these, so why would a larger version of iPhone tech screen suddenly be horrid?

people choosing iPads over Samsung tablets is certainly not down to display issues...

For the past year and a bit, I’ve been using the LG C8 55” inch OLED TV as a monitor for my Windows desktop.

There are static visual elements, like the start menu and taskbar that have not caused any burn in.

I’m thinking that maybe, a lot of people been burned (awful pun) by older OLED TVs, and thus maybe giving OLED a much worse reputation that it deserves.

Additionally, newer OLED panels have ‘anti-burn-in tech’ such as Pixel Shift (may be specific to LG panels) but I’m not sure how much this helps (I have this enabled)

So if we’re at a point where OLED tech has matured enough, then it may be possible for the 2021 iPads to adopt it.

(Massive speculation, bias, and a bunch of assumptions.)

Circling back to this, Renee Ritchie had an interesting take on this rumor with one of his recent YouTube videos where he noted that the South Korean chaebol will often "sponsor" articles in South Korean newspapers touting new production processes or technologies they have as a way to market them to a wider audience. He suggests that these rumors of OLED iPad Pros coming so soon after MiniLED models could just be Samsung and LG trying to pitch their new OLED capacity and capabilities to Apple and not Apple actually looking to source from them.

Korean website The Elec today claimed that Apple plans to release at least one iPad Pro model with a Mini-LED display in the first half of 2021, as has been widely rumored for many months, but the report added an interesting new twist.

Following the release of the first iPad Pro model with Mini-LED backlighting in the first half of 2021, The Elec claims that Apple plans to release new iPad Pro models featuring OLED displays in the second half of the year. Samsung and LG are already in the process of developing the OLED displays for the iPad Pro, according to the report.

Many of the rumors to date have claimed that Mini-LED backlighting may be limited to a new high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro launching around March, so it is possible that the rest of the iPad Pro lineup will continue to use traditional LCDs until they are upgraded with OLED displays later in the year, but the roadmap is unclear at this point.

Mini-LED and OLED displays share many of the same benefits over traditional LCDs, including higher brightness, improved contrast ratio, and increased power efficiency. Apple already uses OLED technology for most recent iPhones and the Apple Watch.

Apple last refreshed the iPad Pro in March 2020, but it was a relatively minor update, with new features including an A12Z Bionic chip that is essentially an A12X chip with an extra GPU core enabled, an Ultra Wide camera, a LiDAR Scanner for enhanced augmented reality, and better sounding microphones. It was the first update to the iPad Pro since the device received a major redesign in October 2018.

Update: Noted display analyst Ross Young has disputed the claim with a simple "Nope."

The Korean Website Elec Today is a known Samsung mouth piece that spreads false information in hope of diminishing Apples sales. So now everyone will hold off buying a new iPad Pro.

I have a 2019 Sony OLED, and my daughter left our HiMedia box on with a Kodi file list on the screen before we left for the weekend. No Burn-in, I’ve been told most 120hz native grade A and above OLED panels are essentially burn-in resistant for about 50,000-60,000 hours(which to me is essentially device lifespan). OLED does have issues Beyond burn-in though. Panels are usually: physically bent, dented, or wavy(non-noticeable with active signal; requirement for grade A); Algorithm corrected panel imperfections(imperfections visible in the OLED when a signal is not active; usually more visible in grade B stock); and less than 2% of OLED panels currently manufactured hit the required 1000nit Full HDR requirement(aguably 1000nit in a dark environment is too bright for my eyes[I have a 4K Sony Projector that hits that mark]; it causes me physical pain).
