I dont care about larger screen but as a business user and amateur artist, a usb port and precision small tip stylus would be are all the ipad needs hardware wise.

You MS-Surface bashers... like it or not, it's here to stay and will only make more inroads as it evolves.

Yes, the sales aren't Apple-esque but MS has a way of ruthlessly devouring vast markets even when they're this late to the party. (e.g., Internet Explorer vs. Netscape).

I am not bashing. I purchased the 256 Pro 2 and there is no doubt it has a future. Not really crazy about the Win8 thing but it does grow on you.

So, the key to winning is to include something whether or not you want it and to provide it for free, then to get sued over it?

Where's the free Surface Pro 2? Do I have to buy a Windows PC to get my free one?

Yeah...

I was thinking about the ipad pro which we all know is coming

No we don't KNOW it at all. Just like we don't KNOW there will be a real TV etc

----------

there is persistant interest here at mac rumors in hybrids and pen technology.

Persistent interest on a site like this is no sign it will happen. Apple cares about mass sales not keeping the geeks happy. If they can make those sales and tons of profit without something they will do it rather than cut profits to make a tiny minority happy

iPad Maxi?

I can't imagine the proposed possible iPad Maxi would be very easy to handle with one hand like the Air or the Mini. It would have to be light, but there are some that feel that the Air is a bit heavy. I held an iPad 2 and then the Air and it was noticeably lighter...but a 13" iPad?

More likely iPad pro. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 1 handed tablet, I think it would be more like a lap pad or something with a built in stand. But only time will tell.

As for weight, I find carrying around my 15" rMBP in one hand light enough, I sure wouldn't mind a 13" iPad :D

Many people complain about the weight of an iPad Air or iPad 4 to hold over extended periods of use. I can't see how an even bigger iPad will solve that? I can carry my laptop with no problem, but standing at a trade show booth with a laptop in hand full time is no fun. And if one has to put down the tablet to use it over extended periods, one may as well get a MacBook.

I am not sure if common "street" users will want an ipad of this size, but remember that a lot of business users might.

Graphic design, selling at trade shows, etc.

Just because you or I don't want one does not mean there is no place in the market for it.

Completely agree. The point of this product wouldn't be to generate the sorts of mass sales we're used to with the existing iPad line. Rather, it would be analogous to the 15" and former 17" MacBook Pros -- a perfect device for a minority of users, but a minority that otherwise is unreachable by the current iPad line (for example, think about musicians who could use a large tablet to display sheet music). For Apple, this seems to have at least a couple of advantages: First, most of the applications for which a large iPad are needed are non-starters on the existing applications. Thus, every sale of the Pro would be in addition to Apple's existing sales. Second, the users who really need something of that size otherwise would have to purchase whatever decent option some other company releases, thereby diluting the iOS market share. In short, Apple would be silly not to consider building a large iPad, even if most people would prefer one of the smaller ones.

Well while it's true we absolutely have no idea if Apple has something up their sleeve, indicators do point to an iPad that seems more productivity oriented compared to previous generations. Reports have shown they are working on a larger tablet, and the reports have been pretty accurate given their history with predicting last years product line up. I do believe an iPad "pro" is coming, most likely running OS X. It would make sense. The price point for something like that, I would imagine, makes me believe it will be less of a consumer product and more of a laptop replacement.

Samsung has leaked photos of its 12.2 inch tablet. So the idea is in the air.
There are numerous 13.3 in windows tablets--I love the extra space when i am doing pen work.

People seem very rigid in their use cases. table top tablets are super useful

how is it interesting

Hard to say how much credence to this forbes article. I think the one thing that is plausible is that ipad + size is linked to apples textbook initiative. The 4k resolution seems unlikely. The ipen stuff seems likely. Its seems like forbes is claiming this is already in production. Samsung has leaked photos of its 12" tablet prior to ces.

I reiterate that an iPad of that size would impractical this and is just a rumor made up by someone. With my Air I can hold with 1 hand amd interact with the other. A tablet the size of this supposed iPad Pro would be so big that you would have to use it on your lap or a table. I'd be extremely surprised if thus rumor turned out to be true. And iOS devices should run iOS, not OS X.

Your basing you perceptions on a single use case. What we are seeing is an alternate use case where the tablet is more like a laptop--used primarily on a desktop with pen integration. This is where samsung is going with their new 12.2" tablet. And this was the work flow the forbes article was implying. Whether it catches on more fully or whether apple is interested--time will tell

I never thought of that. Kind of makes me wonder if it should be iOS or osX like another poster mentioned.

There's no evidence of an iPad pro other than rumors. Look at the Surface Pro - are people rushing to buy it?

Nobody buys the surface pro because it is a sucky and very overpriced tablet from Microsoft and it is way cheaper to go buy an hp split or other type of tablet computer hybrid. The iPad pro will most likely be for school/business use somewhat replacing laptops. It will most likely have an expensive starting price of $1000 or more since it will most likely not be targeting the average apple user and more likely be targeting organizations and businesses. And because of what we have seen on the other iPads it will most likely not have usb ports-or will it? Since it will most likely be for school or business purposes they may include a usb port for transferring files such as apple's Pages, Keynote or Numbers apps. HOWEVER we are not certain (although it is more likely than not) that an iPad pro even exists as it could easily cannibalize Apple's sales of MacBooks. But it may be an ok sacrifice for apple if it steals sales away from Microsoft windows tablets that are becoming more and more popular not to also mention Kindle Fire and Android tablets such as the Nexus

Sales data on the pro 2 is spotty--but it has generated alot of user buzz. Check amazon comments. It is somewhat overpriced, but the main problem is marketing. MS has done a terrible job connecting with user conceerns with both the surface and windows 8. Its a great device.

I love the screen size of the 9.7 inch iPad. But a lot of people on this site say they love the 7.9 inch size of the mini. I really only like the mini for travel. If every one is say that they like the mini better what do we need an even bigger iPad for. People who like the big screen (like me) get the air people who like a more portable iPad get a mini. I don't see room for another iPad. But hey maybe I'm not seeing this right and there is room for another iPad.

It is overpriced but it is true that Microsoft hasn't done much marketing with the device I'm sure it is a good tablet. but Microsoft just doesn't have the right price...though the Surface rt is a cruddy tablet because it doesn't include everything and the pro should be in the rt's place at the rt price.

Not only did their bloated tv campaign suck--they could even seed so you tube breadcrumbs to bring in the early adapters. I recently bought a sony vaio duo, and my purchase was motivated by sony videos (an reviews) on you tube.
