The best? Hmm that is hard to say - They each have different stregths. For pure drawing nothing beats (on Win/OSX) ClipStudioPaint. For realistic media simulation clearly Painter and Procreate on iOS is just a league in itself. Affinity Designer is a combined vector/pixel solution and imo better then Illustrator. Affinity Photo is nearly where Photoshop is but with way more fluid ui and better workflow.

So for the project clearly Affinity designer, but it is currently OSX only (and in the work for iOS and iPP). You could check out ClipStudioPaint (or as the us distributor calls it MangaStudio). Here is a free trial:

Actually. manga studio is something I've been meaning to try for ages.

I find it very interesting, how when I first got into digital art, I asked what do I need for it. Everyone I asked or anywhere I went on the internet, said the same thing , "Mac, Wacom, PhotoShop/Illustrator". Now it's seem, Surface Pro, Manga Studio lol.

The Surface is great for comic book artist and animators. Although if Apple create a Mac Surface Pro, that would be even better lol.

Yes, the pen that lags like molasses and doesn't have tilt sensors? I think probably whatever you draw in that Surface, doesn't require good stylus.

I agree. The illustrations doesn't have depth. Just looks like 8-bit color paint with zero shadows because Surface Pen's pressure sensitivity is a joke. Plus it lags a lot and can't draw straight line slowly on angles other than vertical.

Since Surface Pro 4 uses N-trig, it's doomed to have the worst stylus for Windoze. (see this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...g/78c138e5-50db-4544-a988-6023a84b9675?auth=1) At least get a Wacom Intuos Pro if one wants to get close to the performance and perfectionness of the Apple pencil.

You obviously have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I've seen beautiful paintings done on the 10" iPad, which has ZERO pressure sensitivity, and all kinds of pen lag. The SP4 is perfectly fine for art. Between it and the Pro, you're comparing various degrees of great, with the Pro coming out a little ahead.

Are you and stonejack the same person? Or a clone?

Industry standard in the office. Had to use it for years.
Not really an excuse. Just the way it's is.

Because industry never wants change. There are so many apps that are far better than Adobe

The absurd complexity of paintings / sketches/ etc can be much more achieved with Apple Pencil using iOS apps than a Surface with all the expesive professional programs anyday. Bottomline, one is still compromising on the Surface Pro pen while there are no compromises with apple pencil, and iOS apps can create much more artistic artworks MUCH LESS cumbersome than Surface + expensive programs.

No,you can achieve the exact same level of complexity from both devices, but the Apple Pencil does make some things a little more convenient with the tilt.

I am pretty sure the Apple Pencil has compromises. It doesn't have any buttons for one, and a lot of digital artists like to have a button for an erase function.

The Apple Pencil 2 will have one button and will be "revolutionary".

It is lacking an eraser AND a button.

Well. The industry invests a lot of cash into software. So they are tied in.
The complexity of painting can be solved much easier with a canvas and some oil paint and a stick.
As has been stated before. Give an artist any tool and they will do great things. There is no killer app for this.
There is free software for windows and Mac OS X that can do the same as photoshop. Doesn't have to be top dollar stuff.

I already have iPad Air 2 and MBP 15", should I get Pro? I really like that big screen and the pencil! And I love everything I have seen on the reports/reviews/articles/Apple Website, etc.

I have the same PLUS an ip6, a 13" MBAir, a 15" rMBP, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad rMini, and multiple desktop variants - basically everything Apple makes lol - and I STILL got the iPad Pro and I LOVE IT.

Having the extra real estate for everything I do is really a nice add, same with the extra processing power and increased RAM. I don't use it for games or photography or even work; I use it for research, reading academic journals, taking research notes, performing data analysis, etc. It is extremely useful for me having the ability to read digital docs (word, PDF, PP, etc.) in full size, editing and marking up digital docs, and being able to read/write notes while viewing a research document or website page for reference simultaneously.

The only thing I do not like is that web pages load in a mobile theme instead of a desktop version because of iOS. That being said, all you need to do is switch to a desktop page when needed. Not a big deal really when compared to all the other benefits in provides me in my particular use case needs.

Your own PMMV depending on use.

Hope this helps.

Best,

I think it is funny some reviews call this ipad a first generation device, even tho the only difference is it has a bigger screen. Almost as if trying to set expectations as low as possible.

The video is MUCH more impressive in real time (30fps). Virtually no lag.

Yesterday morning I had no trouble purchasing a Space Gray iPad Pro 128GB WiFi, Logitech Create keyboard, and Apple Pencil at a local Apple Store.

When I finally got around to trying the Apple Pencil with a couple of apps, I didn't notice any lag.

Sure, there are only a few "Pencil apps" that are available on the day of introduction, but some developers will wait and see if there are enough potential customers before devoting development time.

Actually. manga studio is something I've been meaning to try for ages.

Manga Studio is an excellent program for digital illustration for comics or single page spread art and I use it all the time now compared to Corel Painter back in the old days. The inking engine is the best in class with customizable brushes, especially the watercolor tools, however Sketchbook Pro ( desktop version ) comes close. Mischief has an unlimited canvas which is incredible and the UI is easy to work with.

Also, in Manga Studio you would have access to over 1,000 toner effects that japanese illustrators used for their comics. It's very handy.

So for illustration work, I swear by Manga Studio, Sketchbook Pro and Mischief. Photoshop and Illustrator complements them when I have to use other effects or vector layers as they all work well together.

Many digital illustrators I follow or know of still use Photoshop and Illustrator besides Manga Studio and Sketchbook Pro. At the end of the day, it's just a tool and how you use it with knowledge and experience that matters. But it all starts with an idea, pen and paper to begin with to build up the digital image. I still use Illustrator because I find it easier to manipulate the vector paths with precision and and layer up as much as I want, if needed. Also the Pantone color system in Adobe's apps are the industry standard if you need to use a professional print service using CMYK mode which is VERY important for accuracy ( based on clientele or agency parameters ).

Manga Studio is growing in popularity these days but for conceptual art or industrial design, Sketchbook Pro is a fantastic tool for this purpose. I have the iOS version as well but it's so slow on my original iPad that I've stuck with the desktop app for reliability and deeper features.

He is a graphics DTP expert working on Windows surface (yes, right). He doesn't have anything better than Surface wacom pen in the world. Well, at least in Windows world.

Example of Windows surface art:

Don't make me laugh. You're cherry picking.

This is how an illustrator does vector art done on Surface Pro 3:

it really looks like Illustrator from 90s and I've done my share of Illustrator and Photoshop. So don't pretend you're the only in the world who knows about DTP

If you had actually used Photoshop and Illustrator, you'd know how wrong you sound

I see you took what I said and turned it around on me. I am rubber you are glue.

Though really, you have tons of various testimonies from established people, and you're still denying what's a pretty basic fact. The SP line is perfectly fine for digital artists. Even the guy who did the loop test on the very first page has said that the differences aren't that great between the two. According to him, the Pencil does have slightly less lag, and the tilt functions are great, but the Surface pen has better resistance against the screen.

And the SPs not being powerful enough to handle basic shading you could do on an iPad 1? Please. Let's take Illustrator. Isn't that resource intensive of a program. It can handle complex pieces on machines that are half as powerful as even the entry level SP4.

You come across as someone who wants to gripe about how terrible one company's products are simply because you like another company better. You're just sprouting off BS because...what? You're insecure about the iPad or something? Why? It doesn't have to be, like, a billion times better than the competition to still be a great little computer. Accept the fact it's "merely" one good choice among many, instead of being the ONLY good choice.

Just got mine a couple hours ago. It is a awesome tablet.
With that said, I do miss 3D Touch, though.
But, I have no regrets and seriously doubt I ever will. I don't think I can ever go back to a smaller tablet.
It's such a crazy, awesome experience on a tablet of this size.
The Best Buy that I got this from said they had 2 cages full. I got the 3rd from the last one. The cages have to hold around 200 per cage...or more. I think Apple will sell a ton of these.
