Glad I picked up a current gen iPad Pro 10.5 recently..
It might be the last iPad to have TouchID. I'm not yet convinced FaceID is better/faster/easier, so pleased that I have TouchID iPad.
As an iPhone X user it is better/faster/easier.

The notch on my X doesn't bother me. I think it would on an iPad.
Unfortunately true. At least with the 1st gen in the X. Maybe Apple has "fixed" it for iPad. IMHO I think that is a must. I rarely hold my 12.9 in portrait. It's too top heavy that way. I'll look at it on a table in portrait, but when I hold it it's horizontal.
Guess people don't talk about FaceID not working in landscape because most people do usually hold their iPhone in portrait. The only time I view my iPhone in landscape is when I'm watching a video.
Ah, now this is news I can get behind. I am looking forward to this update. No more large bezels and pointless home button.
And without the home button and less belzels Apple could either add more screen or reduce the overall size of the iPad Pro, that would be interesting for the 12.9”
Unless they want an edge to edge screen...iPad will never have a notch. Totally unnecessary.
1. Notch isn't necessary to accomplish this on iPad, that should be common sense. But getting it working in landscape is.
I'm not sure that no bezels is ideal on the larger iPads. it will make holding the device quite tricky with your hands touching the side of the screen etc....
We’ll see a screen increase on both with the 12.9” receiving a smaller overall form factor. It’s possible that the form factor could remain the same with an even larger screen but I’m not convinced that will happen for a number of reasons. And without the home button and less belzels Apple could either add more screen or reduce the overall size of the iPad Pro, that would be interesting for the 12.9”
Alas, there's more evidence to the contrary. As an iPhone X user it is better/faster/easier.
It doesn't work when the phone is held in landscape orientation. And apart from the image the sensors read being turned by 90º (which in itself means the system needs store more possible matches), the viewing and projecting angles are a bit different. The system in portrait mode is slightly down-angled. For landscape orientation to work, it would need to be slightly angled to one side (depending on whether the module is on the right or the left). Basically means, for it to work, it would need to have a wider projection and viewing angle. Also the IR projection will illuminate your face from a slight right or left position which creates different shadows.Does FaceID not work in landscape? I never heard anyone really talk about this and just assumed it didn’t work.
yep, but people seems not to take this in consideration, or people do not know thisQuestion: Is it not impossible to make a notch in an LCD display?
Tricky? I think the word you're looking for is "impossible". They weigh entirely too much to carry them safely by the edges. A bezel-free design on an iPad is pretty much an epic fail all around, even without a notch. A notch would just be the final nail in the coffin.
Palm rejection works okay. Regardless, what is the point of more screen if you fully expect to be blocking more of it with your palms? Yeah there are times I'm using the iPad propped up (not in hand), but I still hold it a fair amount too. That’s why there is palm rejection on the iPad’s and it works very well, the same would be applied to a reduced or no bezel iPad.
You say that as if Apple has already decided to do this. It's not official, only a mockup.wow, the notch looks incredibly bad on the larger form factor. Not a good move by Apple in my opinion.
The notch on the iPhone X is bad enough, but a notch on an iPad, one of whose core functions is to watch movies and shows, would be an even worse decision. Fattening one of the bezels would be far superior until Apple figures out how to move it all under the screen.
Also, I assume the Face ID on the iPad will work whether holding it in landscape or portrait? If not, that's another big fail.
