A large screen iPad would be perfect for RDP applications if only Apple would unblock mouse support in the Bluetooth protocol stack.

I'm not talking about redesigning iOS for mouse use, I just mean allowing the use of a mouse for those applications where it makes a lot of sense, like Remote Desktop.

Yes, this one change would make a world of difference. Stupid not to allow a mouse on the iPad anyways. Sheesh, let the people interact how THEY want to interact.

Don't hold your breath.
I gotta say right now I'm more interested in the Surface line than I am in just a larger screened iPad...

Finally someone has mentioned something that actually makes sense!!! The surface is a great machine!! Wish I could take the OS out and replace it with OS X, would be a perfect machine!!!

I'd wish to detach the keyboard from the MacBook 12 inch and use it as a Retina touch screen instead. Same functional end result but better design (although surface can be configured with an i7)

That's pretty vague. Is there a specific app that is iOS only that you think would be great on the Mac?
It's not an App, it's all of them. I'm not expecting one iOS App to be done for the Mac, unless it is one that enables all/any iOS App to run on the Mac, sort of an 'emulator'.
I'm expecting Apple to enable it, merge the OS and let anything run.

If you need every feature of OS X it sounds like you need a laptop.

I don't want a car I WANT A BIKE.'

The Surface needs a stylus because touch points are too small for your fingers. The ipad will already have software that is finger friendly and the stylus would just be an enhancement and not a prerequisite.

I'm not sure using a desktop class OS makes sense for a modern mobile device/appliance. Why take 30yrs of OS crud with you in the new world so you can run some crappily written business software made in the 90's?

What would you do with a touch screen Mac, with software that's not optimized for touch? I think it makes more sense for iOS on the iPad to gain more functionality than turning OS X into a touch OS. Anyway I think it's a moot because as I've previously said if Apple was brining OS X to the iPad this fall it would have leaked by now.

Both schools of thought are correct.

SJ's statement is correct in the sense that for how you interact with your phone for most regular tasks, your finger IS the best stylus.

But there are other tasks that benefit tremendously from a dedicated stylus, design, music notation etc.

There really isn't a right or wrong here.
And as far as we know Jobs never trashed the stylus for specific use cases. But I think most people that rehash this quote know exactly what Jobs meant and they're just engaging in a bit of trolling.

I hardly used the stylus when I had a surface pro 3. I used my finger a lot of and I only used the touch pad when i had the keyboard attached (which I only used the keyboard when typing up a document).

Is not "either or", is enabling all sources of input for when you need them or want them:
Keyboard, touch, force touch, trackpad, mouse, gestures, microphone, game pad, etc

Because you can run anything out there, is not about trailing legacy, is about open it up to all possibilities. They can allow it to boot on any OS therefore is up to the user to decide what to do with the device: use the "new" latest and "greatest" (oftentimes these are the crappy ones for a few iterations), and also be able to run your 'classic' or 'legacy' or even -crappy-but-nice-to-use ones. Let the hardware be powerful enough to run any software out there. Otherwise the experience is like you cannot access an old website because the new OS isn't able to...

Bluetooth pens on the market already provide that level of sensitivity. The issue is really about the software supporting the hardware effectively.

You obviously know nothing about this issue--why post? spend 10 minutes with an active digitizer or google the issue

Is there really a strong belief that apple will include a stylus? I know they sell 3rd party ones, but I would be shocked if they added one.

Third party soutions have proved problematic (accuracy, pressure, lag, palm rejection) I would be
surprised if apple can leverage force touch into a competitive pen technology--but certainly apple
is technically up to developing a first rate pen

I don't see why a stylus would be included with an iPad. Unless you're writing or drawing on it, I see no need to absolutely make it part of iOS or iPad.

(If you ARE writing or drawing on it, like myself, you've probably already got a good stylus anyway)

you've really looked into this? not.

Considering the value Apple places on the Education market

" a tablet for the rest of us"! This product may not provided more than 10% of the ipad market iniitially--buy it could renew the brand halo that has lost its luster in the few years. MS has done a terrible job marketing the surface 3 and surface pro 3. Apple wont make that mistake

Yes. Its obvious because you have used it--not read about it on the verge

Actually I don't mind getting an iPad air 2 with force touch and a bigger screen. Having such a stunning retina screen in hand will definitely be cool! Apple doesn't force us to buy its products. If you want a surface pro, just go and get one. You don't need to be commenting on every iPad article, trying to convince us how bad the iPad line is. No wonder why the iPad is the most popular tablet all over the globe.

Apple's long-rumored 12.9-inch "iPad Pro" will enter mass production sometime in September or October, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst also believes that the larger-screened iPad will come with a Force Touch-enabled stylus accessory for users to more easily navigate the increased surface area of the tablet.

Kuo believes manufacturer Cheng Uei will receive the exclusive assembly rights of the stylus. The analyst also points to recent market feedback of Force Touch on products like the Apple Watch and MacBook as reasons that the technology wouldn't exclusively drive big hardware sales, but Apple's commitment to the consistency of its devices will see Force Touch implemented on all of the company's products in the future.

Rumors about a first-party Apple-built stylus accessory began swirling earlier in the year, coming again from Kuo. Late last year, the first bit of news surrounding the iPad Pro pointed towards a 12.2-inch display, but subsequent stories have pushed the 12.9-inch rumor that's been heavily circulated ever since. Now, the latest rumors for the iPad Pro suggest the device is an unlikely candidate for next month's iPhone-centered media event, with a mid-to-late fall launch date somewhat lining up with Kuo's prediction today.

My concern is signing documents with force touch. I don't need a phone vibrate sensation in my iPad. It may work for drawing. It all depends on what Apple decides on what Force Touch will feel like. I have the watch and like it a lot but I wouldn't want those sensations on my pad. Your mileage may vary. :)

"To ... create the new iPad Pro, we asked ourselves 'what do people most need from a large screened tablet?' The answer, of course, is neither function nor affordability, but portability. The new iPad Pro is unapologetically flexible, allowing you to sympathetically scrunch it up and put it in your pocket to carry around.

The design for this forced us to ... rethink ... everything we knew about tablets. By ... removing the battery, and adding a gorgeous RetinaFlex display, this is simply the most portable iPad ever. We also knew that this would be used in the professional market, by people who carry around a computer with them. The innovative 'always on' design means you can keep it hooked up to your MacBook Pro, without having to worry about a battery ever running out.

Simply put, it's the best iPad we've ever made."

OMG I just read this today - your comment is HILARIOUS! You had me nearly fall off my chair laughing - between the photo of Jonny Ives and your hyperbolic imaginary product description! I'm still laughing! You should consider writing comedy. This was worthy of a filmed short a la The Office. :))

I would like to see what they come up with, I can't see it running a normal iOS, but a full OSX? Hmm.. Pro though means pro apps, we can all conclude this will be an expensive device.
Then again people use the Galaxy Note Pro 12" for art work I believe so maybe it could work?

Would any pro's on here use it though? For art work or video / photo editing? Would that work on iOS or do you need OSX and the apps support?

I only know a hand full of people who has a Galaxy Note Pro 12" and they mainly just used it as a digital sketch pad. Actually all them have switch to Microsoft Surface Pro now. On the SyFy show Face Off, a lot those artist use the Galaxy Note Pro for sketching.

I'm a comic book artist and animator, and I haven't found anything on iOS app store that compare to the apps I use on OS X or Windows. So no an iPad Pro running only iOS would not be useful for me, but I do think it would be very useful for beginners and students.

But the question I would ask you is: How much of these Face Off artists using Galaxy Notes is product placement? Either directly with the artists or via SyFy (how I hate that non-word brand!).

To be honest, I don't think it is product placement, since barely half of the artist of each season use them.
It could be just some of the artist are only good at make up effect and not at actually drawing. So they use digital means to help them out.

Yeah I still remember to good old days of Sci Fi lol
