I would love that. With thinner bezels and a landscape front camera while they're at it. I could even do without the rear camera.

I've always dreamed of my 17" MBP screen to be detachable and become an iPad.
17 is even better. With the current Magic Keyboard with a trackpad, it would be a worthy competitor to a MBP for some of us. These would be desktop iPads. Sounds like a contradiction but it is really for those that frequently needs a pencil for productivity. With M1 like performance, iPP is not a toy anymore.

27” is even better...oh no 32” even better..

About damn time!! It's pretty annoying that current iPad Pros isn't the absolute best in term of chip performance. It's good for multi-core but has been beaten in single-core by iPad Air's A14. What's the deal with A12z? iPad Semi-Pro?

And looking back at the old LCD screen compared to the iPhone's OLED, it looks pale in comparison. HDR isn't as nice, black isn't as deep and the contrast feel outdated in comparison. I even returned QLED TVs and bought an LG OLED just because I can't stand backlit TFTs anymore.

Not the perf made ipp a toy for some..lets face it , performance never had been an issue for the ipad pro since last 2 gen..but the os itself..and for 2 years the os has grown big

My 3rd gen pro is more than fast enough, can't see that chip slowing down anytime soon.

Maybe adding a little bit more ram would keep everyone happy.

I think most of you here aren’t aware that USB 4 protocol includes Thunderbolt 3 as part of the specification. I think the inclusion of Thunderbolt on iPads mean they are going USB 4 just like the M1 Macs.
Probably right but Thunderbolt 3 is optional in usb 4 spec. M1 actually supports some thunderbolt 4 features like thunderbolt hubs. However usb only devices like Samsung t5 ssd perform slower than expected on m1 vs intel macs and windows pcs.

Is Thunderbolt 4 (the one that can be used without an Intel processor) backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3? Can you use a 5K ultra fine display with it? If so it may be time to upgrade from my 2018.
My 5K ultrafine works nicely with my M1 macBook Air, so that's a very safe bet 🥳

For many users the flexibility is nice to have. Similar to a Surface Pro => a desktop when you need it to be. A tablet when you need it to be.
This is exactly my usage scenario. At home, my surface sits in a docking station connected to my 43” curved monitor, (BT mouse & KB) then when I travel, I use it as a tablet (media consumption) and connect a surface keyboard when working at a clients address. Probably not the place to find agreement, but my surface is without doubt the best “laptop” I have ever owned and the form factor perfect for my needs. Slotting a tablet into a docking station to create a desktop is so convenient.

Also, when working remotely I use an iPad as a second screen with duet.

iPP is not a toy anymore.

We've been hearing that words for a few years now, started with the infamous "What's a computer?" ad.. It's still a toy because of the OS. It won't adjust aspect ratio for external monitors, it doesn't have filesystem and not the slightest flexibility of full-fledged computer.

11’’ is the perfect classroom notebook for me. Please let it have the same mini-LED display. Can’t really call it a ‘Pro’ model when it is cut down from the 12.9”. Doesn’t make any sense.

I thought OLED was superior to Mini LED? Or are they looking at Mini LED as superior due to brightness?

Mini LED with TV's, OLED is still the king with blacks over anything else that I'm aware of.

I did not compare to Mac or PC, did I? Since the A12X, the iPP has had compute power on par with laptops. I would say a iPP with M1 performance is not a toy. We see lots of "not toy" apps arriving to the iPad utilising that power and more will come.

A toy for one person can be the livelihood for others. Take a football for example or a computer game.

Hopefully thunderbolt support for external displays may mean "proper" external display support, its one big advantage Android currently has.

Hope they fix the part of the internals that presses on the back of the LCD that causes a faint white dot on the display. All 12.9" 2020's have it.
