Hmmm, not sure whether the upgrades are going to sway me away from going M1 MBA as an update from my 2018 iPP 12.9”. I’ll hold off to see what kind of battery life the new 12.9” offers.
Are your plans to replace or supplement the iPP with the M1 MBA? Just curious as to what you may be looking to upgrade or improve upon after coming from the iPP.

I have an M1 MBA. Absolutely love it. Best computer I have ever owned. But I am thinking of going the opposite direction and picking up an 11" iPP for specialized work that requires a pencil (and for content consumption).

And iPhone still cant get standard USB-C.

OMG ... enough of this already. Apple beat USB-C with lightning to the market - only speed and faster charging are the benefits and we're seeing horrible battery life longevity on devices is crazy rapid speeds in charging that the industry is now splitting batteries to charge in parallel to mitigate battery degeneration (and this is in candybar form factor not just foldables).

Every time Apple decides NOT to jump on the latest and greatest thing there is always somebody/some people that love to kick em down vs seeing maybe there is something much better over the horizon.

Examples:

Apple - single mouse button vs Windows multiple mouse buttons.
- this was true even on laptops as well.
> part of this was Mac users by far knew their keyboard commands/shortcuts much better amongst the OS vs just MS Office suite of copy/cut/paste.
-> Solution: Apple released Multi-Touch on etched glass for Mouse, Laptop TrackPad etc
Look the entire industry followed suit for laptops! ENTIRE industry.

Apple iPod.
- released after the iMac (I believe) released with a focus of ONLY mac users it's first year and with FW400:
this allowed rapid charging and 400 mbps data transfer which USB 1.1 never could acheive. It wasn't until USB2.0 did the iPod release it natively.

CD Drive
> Apple new the industry would use flash based memory for portable storage; it took longer for pricing to come down for larger than 500GB+ to get to flash but hey here we are. Nobody saying diddly now bout it.

FW800 released 5yrs+ before USB3 and yet still faster data transfer speeds. Unfortunately the market would not sign up for licensing. Oh well.

So yeah ... we're all missing out on USB-C data speeds, and ultra fast Power Delivery charging speeds, for now.
I have a very funny feeling that MagSafe will be much faster if not equal to and more efficient and less damaging to battery life longer than 1yr.

With Airpod and Airtag delays they don't need an event to unveil a 11 inch iPad pro with a spec bump and a 12.9 with a new screen, it can "just be an email".

I already use an iPad Pro 12.9” as my primary computer and might upgrade to this newer iPad Pro instead of buying a new MacBookPro. Release Final Cut Pro for iPadOS and I can likely ditch my Mac entirely.
I’m right there with you. For me, it’s release Logic Pro X and I would try ditching my Mac.

I’ve been using an 11” iPad Pro for a couple of years now and am leaning toward trying out the 12.9” since it’s become my primary computer. My only hesitation is that I read the 12.9” is not as pleasant to use as a tablet, like on the couch due to fatigue or size awkwardness. Do you happen to have an opinion on that with your 12.9”? Thanks.

The iPad Pro is already the best computer i have ever owned, and now with Thunderbolt and able to run Logic and FCP?
The iPad Pro, the future and best of mobile computing.

The iPad Pro is THE culmination of Apple's Navigator protype since the mid 80's:
Single tablet type form factor
selfie camera for video conferencing
Internet connected with corporate networking storage and file access
An AI for real personal digital assisting - Siri (which was a third party that created this no WONDER why Apple purchased Siri.

As early as April? This sets up well for a March 30th event at the earliest. That is of course, the 23rd still doesn’t happen.
They might just do press releases. Especially considering the only major upgrade is the display tech. Airtags are almost self explanatory.

I wish they would hurry up. Cracked the screen on my 2020 11" iPP and have been living with it since. (I will never not get Apple Care+ on an iPP again.)

Will this new iPad Pro have much better cameras compared to the current 12.9 iPad Pro? Taking closer pictures of documents or drawings or sketches or materials etc should be clear and focused.

I am one of those who returned the 12.9 iPad Pro for the 11” model. Though my needs are more mobile, so portability is paramount. If you use your iPad on a desk more often, you will appreciate the larger screen size of the bigger iPad Pro, and it pairs nicely with the magic keyboard. In other positions like on your laptop or on the sofa, less so.

I’m not sure why I would want to connect an external monitor to my iPad but hey it’s there if you need it I guess.

How did it happen?
Fumbled it while putting it down on my coffee table. Fell two inches from my hand to the edge of the coffee table, which I guess impacted it in just the right way to create a spiderweb of cracks radiating from one edge. Apple doesn’t replace the screens (because they’re laminated I guess). So the replacement cost for the whole device is quite high.

I should add that I’ve owned iDevices since 2009ish and have never before cracked one of their screens, but maybe this was just bad luck.

Hoping they consolidate their iPad line a bit. iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro... many of the options offer the same processor, some don't. Some offer Apple Pencil 2 support, some don't. It's a nightmare for average consumers.

I just don't see a need to upgrade from my 2017 iPad Pro 12.9, it does everything I need except the storage is running out. I should have went with the 128 GB model instead of cellular, which I have hardly used.

Thunderbolt support points to macOS coming to the iPad Pro or a very big upgrade to iPadOS 15.
I really wish you were right mate, but this is not going to happen. Basically, that would kill a whole laptop lineup. Moreover, Cook always insisted on separating the Macs from the iPad. That would be a dream to though.

Even more than a new iPad Pro, I'd love to see a new Pencil with haptic feedback.
Their patent that would allow to feel:
  • The physical sensation of moving a paintbrush across a canvas.
  • The difference in feel between ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ brushes.
  • The sensation of moving the brush over a rough surface such as wood.
  • The effect of a pencil rubbing against an edge of a piece of paper.
Would be a killer feature!
