This won’t warrant an event, i think they could do what they did last year and announce a couple of updates via press release and then announce a string of updates at WWDC, if Apple are planning to add a 13” MacBook to the lineup maybe this will be at WWDC as I can’t see them just doing that in a press release.

Dear Tim, pleaeeease can we have an iPad Mini with edge to edge OLED screen!!!!!!
I don't care if it has a notch. I just want to update my iPad Mini 2.
Thanks!
:D

I will be very disappointed if Apple keep the iPad Mini 4 going for yet another year or if they discontinue the Mini altogether.

Fingers crossed that the iPad Mini 5/Pro will become a reality. I'm willing to part with some dollars ... Tim do you want my money or not????

Sold our trusty, but rarely used, Mini 2 Cellular last night on eBay, shipped it out today.

Hoping for reasons (aka new features) to make us want a new iPad. I also hope they jump to the iPhone X look this year.

Apple has registered new tablets with the Eurasian Economic Commission this week, suggesting that an iPad refresh is likely on the horizon. The filings, uncovered by French website Consomac, are legally required for any devices with encryption sold in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

Two of the tablets have model numbers A1893 and A1954, which don't correspond with any current iPad mini, iPad, or iPad Pro. There are also a handful of "sample" tablet and smartphone products listed that have model numbers starting with AA and CC, which is uncharacteristic, so it's unclear what those listings may pertain to.

Recent rumors and logical guesswork suggest Apple could be planning an annual refresh of its lower-cost 9.7-inch iPad, introduced last March for $329 in the United States, while the iPad mini has also gone a few years without an update.

A few months ago, supply chain informant DigiTimes claimed Apple is planning to release an even cheaper 9.7-inch iPad for around $259 this year. The website also said Apple's first new products of 2018 would be released in March, so next month is shaping up to see the arrival of at least one new budget iPad.

It's unclear what changes the new 9.7-inch iPad would have, but given its price point, it will likely retain a classic design with top and bottom bezels and a home button with Touch ID, rather than Face ID. Any refresh is likely to be a relatively minor one, with a focus on performance improvements.

The current 9.7-inch iPad is powered by an Apple A9 chip, and features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front camera, two speakers, Lightning connector, 3.5mm headphone jack, Touch ID, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2. Unlike the iPad Pro, it lacks Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support.

Given the 9.7-inch iPad is a niche product, a refresh could be announced via press release like last year. But with rumors swirling about a new iPhone SE, originally unveiled at a March 2016 event, perhaps Apple will have enough announcements on its docket to host a special event at Steve Jobs Theater.

Apple's rumored iPad Pro with Face ID is more likely to be unveiled at WWDC 2018 in June, but the discontinued 9.7-inch iPad Pro debuted in March 2016, so there's some precedence for an earlier introduction.

In the past, similar filings with the Eurasian Economic Commission have been submitted for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple Watch Series 2, AirPods, and MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models, all within one to two weeks before each product was released.

All in all, the listings suggest Apple will introduce new products of some kind in March for the fourth consecutive year.

So excited to hear new redesigned iPad. So glad and fortunate for those including myself who are waiting and will get the redesigned iPad and did not buy any iPad last year.

Yay we're back to rumors about core products again! After the iPhone updates at the end of every year, the rumor mill just seems to go stale until about this time.

My 9.7" Pro is about to turn two years old next month, but still handles nicely for what I use it for. Depending on how big of a release this is, I may or may not upgrade. The last update with thinner bezels and the faster refresh rate was pretty cool, but didn't quite warrant an upgrade from what I currently had. I like my iPad, but it's not crucial to my everyday life like iPhone, Watch and Mac, all of which I have the current versions of because I do feel like those are substantial updates when they occur. But not so much the iPad o_O

Obviously there are plenty of people who would say the opposite about their iPads

My biggest question is are they going to keep the headphone jack in the next crop of premium iPads?

If they put an A10 class chip in an entry level, that would be pretty awesome. I may consider upgrading, but then again, I love the Mini's form factor and my iPad works just fine.

I hope they update the mini also, but it’s looking unlikely.
Apple will discontinue iPad mini series.

iPad SE will replace it. It'll look like iPad mini 3, but with iPhone SE 2018 internals. Most likely A10. And it will be cheap as iPhone SE.
iPad 2018 will be nearly same as 2017 model, but with A10.

Later this year, in summer iPad Pro 8, an 8.2" OLED, A11 based and Apple pencil compatible, expensive tablet, is released along with updated iPad Pro 10.5" and 12.9" with A11X.

Most likely. The iPad isn’t as space-constrained as the iPhone, nor does it need to be made waterproof. Plus, many people do presentations or record audio on their iPads via microphones and they do require the headphone jack for it.

If you're in need of an upgrade, I don't know where I even stand with my iPad 4  (Spotify often refuses to start playing music for 10 minutes )
Hmm... I've started to feel the need to upgrade my iPad 3 soon... it crashes quite often, especially when updating apps...

Six years with the same iPad should be enough. I hope this summer I can update to the latest iPad Pro and live with it the following six years...

Wow, that is a great prediction! I can really see that happening.

Hard to imagine this refresh will entice me to upgrade from my 10.5 iPad Pro. Face ID is still in its first generation and while thinner bezels are nice, the display tech itself sounds like it will pretty much be unchanged. Give me 4K OLED with wireless charging + pairing of Apple Pencil then we'll talk.

A word of warning to those hoping for a new iPad mini. I too would love to see that and that's the problem. What I want, Apple never offers, so you are outta luck. I have, however, no opinion yeah or nay about USB-C, so you may get that.

You see, Apple Corporate has a carefully constructed image of the typical Apple customer, and I'm its exact opposite. When products are at their conceptual stage, they have a critical meeting in which they ask "What does Mike (that's me) want?" Then they make sure their new products are as different from that as possible. That's why you can forget any possibility that Apple would add GPS to all their mobile products or offer a cellular data option to their Mac laptops. Ditto an iPhone model with and extended battery life or a ruggedized sport model. Yes, those would be a great ideas, but they are ideas I like, and I'm the kiss of death to any new idea.

This happens so often, I thought about engaging in reverse psychology. Maybe I should be very vocal in favor of ideas I loathe and dismissive of those I like. Would that work? I don't know.

That's just what I was thinking about USB-C.

I've long said they would add Lightning to a MacBook if they're serious about Lightning audio. So far it seems they aren't. There aren't even any Lightning headphone to USB-C adapters for the new MacBooks, requiring users to carry two different wired. headphones. So it's unlikely to see them add dual ports to the iPad or iPhone. More likely they will just drop Lightning altogether when they drop a physical port, no longer needed for charging. The smart connector could be used instead for most hard wired dependant needs, and wireless for everything else. The iPad would just change to USB-C. And anybody foolish enough to buy a Lightning audio device will be out of luck, or maybe an adapter to the Smart connector?

I'm not sure a mouse is needed on an iPad, now that they have the Pencil. The issue with office-type apps is that the finger is a great pointing device, but not a particularly good editing tool. The pencil solves that problem, and on a laptop-sized device a pretty efficient solution, for use with any keyboard.

I like the Pencil, but the motion of pick it up and putting it down while editing and typing isn't the greatest- in any case, I'm talking about having the tablet propped up with a keyboard where the Pencil isn't really usable (which is a "supported" position of the iPad with Apple's own keyboard case).
It may be happening if this iOS/MacOS cross framework is coming. I don't think Apple should ever allow mouse pointer only software in the store for the iPad- but if they already have software that really wants it for text editing (Swift Playgrounds, Excel, etc).

I really like using the iPad without this- it would just be one more set of functionality that wouldn't really take away from anything existing.

Fingers crossed

Doubt Apple wait till June for air power

What is this Airpower anyways ?
[doublepost=1519281254][/doublepost]So what is ya'll guys opinion on when the 10.5" iPad Pro for this year will come out ? June at the WWDC ?Or at the Fall event in September ?

Most likely. The iPad isn’t as space-constrained as the iPhone, nor does it need to be made waterproof. Plus, many people do presentations or record audio on their iPads via microphones and they do require the headphone jack for it.
I agree, and hope they keep the headphone jack. I'm curious when Apple's forward-thinking design philosophy of "kill the headphone jack" will supersede the current lack of necessity for its removal in more spacious hardware.
