Of course it is.

It looks like the Android side has abandoned the tablet market. No high-end tablets to buy and no quality Apps to run on them.
And Google/partners can just say "well, Chromebooks are better than tablets anyway..."
(They are better for some Things- trackpad support when using an external keyboard is the only thing I personally would like for coding/text editing).

I have recently purchased (for 20 dollars) a video editing app that runs on iOS. When I bought it for my iPad Air 2 it automatically installed in my iPhone. It has three tracks of video editing and three separate tracks of audio. The latest version includes Chromokey. It even exports out 360 degree video. You can use keyframing for video and objects. I am really amazed by its capabilities. There is also a large number of transitions, filters, and special video effects. Its called LumaFusion. I am not doing much with it yet but i see its fantastic potential for mobile video journalists. For twenty bucks ,i thought playing with it is more entertaining and more useful than a game.
Thank you! I look forward to checking out LumaFusion.

(LOL)^N on the iPhone being being a "fashion accessory".

I think the statement shows your ignorance. The iPhone by itself alone is a status Symbol and has been trending like this for quite some time. It's the one product that if somebody has, it's fairly noticed for what it is because of its notoriety and history. No one cares what iPad or MacBook you have, but which iPhone you have, is an entirely different segment of something being A fashion accessory. Especially given where the iPhone X is currently, its fairly popular for its own reasons aside just from being the latest device.

"Apple sold a total of 43.8 million iPad units in 2017, as confirmed by its quarterly earnings results, while IDC estimates that Samsung and Amazon shipped 24.9 million and 16.7 million tablets respectively on the year."

Playing this game as well MR? It's been well established by now that what Apple considers to be "sold" is in reality what others call "shipped".
Apple doesn't ship without getting paid first. Payment for a product constitutes a sale.

Thank you! I look forward to checking out LumaFusion.

LumaFusion is great and worth the money. Plus they’ve been good at regular updates.

As to the iPad Pro, I’m really looking forward to see this years version. I’m curious just how fast the A11X will be and how they’ll do FaceID. Plus WWDC 2018 and possible new features for iPads in iOS 12.

Unless you are a shareholder, you are winning nothing. Quite the opposite in fact.
I am still winning there too. Long term shareholders aren't worried about a few weeks of market gyrations. No one has to panic sell when the stocks drops 10%. Happens all the time. I'm buying more like I'm buying more of other fabulous companies that are down big.

No issues with ever buying an iPad and would love using Android, but just recently, I've been having a horrible time trying to get Samsung Tech Support to get a Galaxy Tab E 9.7 shipped off to repair (UNDER WARRANTY) the USB port because it stopped charging. With all the loop holes I have to jump through to get a case created and then have to hit a 2nd layer of support who wants you to buy a new Samsung cable to test with (I have 3 different Samsung cables that work for other Samsung devices).

Just for service support alone, I'll stick with iPads. And then maybe Amazon.

As an Android phone user with an iPad Pro - you don't want an Android tablet.
Ditto. For phones, I much prefer Android (LG G4 FTW! and only a fraction of the price of many of the top Samsung, Google, and Apple phones! ). I got my iPad Air at half off that I'm most definitely sticking with that. It's still on ios8, so I'll have to decide if I'd want to update when the games I'd like drop ios8.

Basically all the tablets I see around airports are iPads. In general, a lot less laptops than before, many more tablets.

And so many people use it for work.

Also, some workforce have their work documents and presentations in the cloud anyway. I used to carry around my MBP for that purpose but since the iPad Pro 12.9", it's much more convenient, weighs a lot less, and not miss a beat working on important documents, contracts, presentations, etc. It's not a laptop replacement for sure, but an extension of it along with the apps and convenience.

Sorry, but I STILL think headlines like this are misleading.

Yes, without question Apple has sold more tablets, than any other individual tablets, but the manner of the statement is dubious.

It would be like saying Ford make Gas Cars and 10 other brands make Diesel cars.

Then printing the heading, Fords Gas cars outsell rivals.
Or Ford Gas cars are in the lead.

Which is technically true, but it's misleading, as it gives the impressing that they are selling the most in general.

When Ford could only perhaps be selling 2 out of every 10 cars sold.
2 Gas cars to 8 Diesel ones.

This headline COULD SAY; "Apple only selling 1/4 of all the tablets being sold each year"

Which would also be accurate and correct, but would give a very different spin on the headline.

In my office (a university campus) the biggest iPad competition actually comes from the Microsoft Surface. The Surface Pro and Surface Book 2 are aimed at both the tablet market and the laptop market as all-in-one devices. Microsoft even has a header on the following page that says, "It's easy to switch from Mac to Surface!" https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface

iPads are still quite popular on our campus, but some faculty and staff who used to use one now use a Surface. Many of my coworkers have a Surface, and I was offered one when it came time to upgrade my old 30-pin third-gen iPad. I requested a 9.7 inch iPad Pro instead. The previous iPad was working great for me as a device to take to meetings, out into the field, etc. so why change? I had also heard some grumblings about the reliability of the Surface. I feel like iOS is my primary platform anyway. I may have a Windows desktop in my office, but I also have an iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. When I'm mobile, iOS just makes more sense for me. Since we use Office 365, I can access pretty much anything I need from the iPad, and for rare cases otherwise I just remote from the iPad into my desktop computer.

I've always wanted an iPad, but haven't been able to justify the cost. I have a MacBook Pro and I do livestreaming and video editing. But I'm really happy for the people who can get everything done on a tablet.

For me it was always an issue of why? Why do I need this device? I bought one but I still never figured out the why. I always reached for either my iPhone or Mac. So I sold the iPad and didn’t have one for years.

Until...I got an iPad Pro and Pencil a few months ago and use it all the time. I love the Pencil. I use GoodNotes and it’s sublime. I pretty much don’t use it for anything else, but I take a lot of notes and constantly find myself jotting things down on scratch paper. I don’t like typing notes. There’s something about writing them. And now with the Pencil I can write, sync my notes to my Mac, convert notes to text, search notes, etc. I love it.

Unless you are a shareholder, you are winning nothing. Quite the opposite in fact.

Hardly. The reason there are so many great iPad Apps is because they are selling well, which gives developers a good reason to target the iPad. That benefits all iPad users.

You’re trying really hard to diminish the fact the iPad dominates.

Amazon has made some amazing growth since 2016. The article fails to point that out, instead touting Apple's measly 3% growth contrasted with an overall 6.5% decline? Amazon had 38% growth and Huawei had 28% growth. I'd say Apple's measly 3% didn't help that -6.5% much.

I'd never buy an expensive iPad for media consumption when for much less money an Amazon tablet allows you to read books, watch movies and basic tasks like email and browsing for significantly less than an iPad.

According to Apple ads I've seen, the iPad Pro is for those who don't know what a computer is.

They are growing because they sell them at a lost for $50 for a device that's about as sophisticated as an off-brand Android phone. They are bought for kids who parents couldn't afford an iPad and are forgotten within the year and tossed in a sock drawer.

iPad growth is limited because the devices are used and are difficult to "kill". I make an app and still get people wondering why we removed support for the original iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1) recently! The iPad 2 is our third most popular and active device used so far in 2018.

I still think it was a brilliant idea to introduce the 9.7 at $329 iPad last year. It opened up a new door for consumers who wanted an entry-level iPad those affordable and Didn't need or any the iPad Pro related features. Especially in a market where the iPad has declined somewhat because of iPhones growing in size, the iPad still has a decent lineup and a price point for everybody.

You can't beat it for $329. I use my Air daily and it is showing its age. I was considering buying a Pro, but now I won't until the OLED model comes out. I may even get the $329 model in the meantime. It is a great consumption device. The iPad is a great product and I have more hand gotten my money's worth out of mine.

I wanted a PixelC but they’re still about $500 used so I bought and iPad for $329 plus a Project re smartcover I’m good to go with a warranty

I remember so well when Steve Jobs introduced the iPad (wife and I were early adopters) and there were so many people saying Android, Samsung etc. were going to move in and take over that space. Of course it never happened and Apple has consistently dominated the tablet market, and for good reason. I love my iPad Pro.

Are you sure it hasn’t happened? Apple only sell 1 in every 4 tablets and that is declining. 5 years ago, they sold 2 in every 3 tablets.

AMZN probably made less profit on the 4.6M more tablets they sold than Apple made on the extra 1.2M they sold. Amazon almost literally gives their tablets away and rumored to sell them at a loss at times. Just a different strategy.

That said, the Amazon tablets are utter crap.

To my way of thinking, the system that has 75% of the market is the one dominating and that would be Android. And the companies whose growth is almost 30% (Huawei) and almost 40% (Amazon) in a shrinking market would appear to be the ones making the right product at the right price.
