Not to be pessimistic, but wouldn't your arms get tired from being raised towards the iMac screen all the time?

That being said, I would love to see some touch Macs! :D Good news if true!

Maybe the screen will not be upright like the current iMacs.......

I look forward to it. I mean having to reach out and touch a screen for hours at a time obviously is not an issue. Just watch, Star Wars, Star Trek, Minority Report......it obviously works.

Just to be on the safe side, I went ahead and trademarked and registered the domains... iPed, iPid, iPud, and iPyd. In a few years when Apple decides to release their first interactive shoes or negative-calorie chocolate pudding snack, I'm sure they're come knocking at my door with a nice, large check.

Unless Apple intends on completely changing the form factor of the iMac, I don't see it happening. The only reason I could see them releasing one is for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad developers - being able to code a program on something as functional as an iMac with the ability to instantly test it on screen seems like it could be useful.

I was on the American Airlines website today after reading the article on the 22inch touchscreen iMac. This is worth checking out and reading the description, the picture clearly shows iMacs, and the description says it is fully interactive - iPhone like touch screen technology. Although highly unlikely these are the touchscreen iMacs talked about today, it is interesting. Anyone one from the DFW area seen these at the airport?

To see what I'm talking about go for yourself go to the aa dot com and search (top right) "oneworld Travel Station" its the first result

Yes they would! It is a stupid idea. That is why Apple has already implemented multi-touch on the Macs in a different way. But nobody seems to realize that!
For some time I have said that Apple will keep multi-touch on the Mac platform limited to mouse/trackpad multi-touch for the foreseeable future, while multi-touch on the display is used for smaller devices that run the iPhone OS.

The rumor of a touchscreen iMac appears to shake things up though.

I'm betting a Mac tablet will be introduced this year. I would have thought a MacBook replacement more likely than an iMac. Though if you really think about it, the iMac already is a tablet on a stand.

I just doesn't make any sense! It is poor implementation! I don't see anyway this rumor could be true at all! What will happen is Apple will expand the mouse multi-touch and trackpad multi-touch and eventually have the trackpad become a second screen on the laptops and a new peripheral for the desktops. Putting it in the actual screen is completely idiotic! If it ever gets to the point where we directly manipulate the main screen on a desktop, Apple would do something different like "multi-touch air" where you just gesture without touching the screen, or something of that sort mixed with facial recognition, voice, etc.

AppleTV

You are crazy if you think that. It'll get a full revamp. ARM CPU, iPhone based OS, apps... EVERYONE wants in on the livingroom computer. Apple has some progress there, and they won't give it up.

Do you really think so? I'd be thrilled. I have an AppleTV and it's completely replaced my cable (which I gave up 2 years ago). It's a product most people don't understand, but when I have friends over they all tell me they want one. The ability to watch any video file (I've hacked mine which is the only reason I find it *so* useful) at any time is enviable.

What I don't understand is the iPhone OS on the ATV. They just revamped the OS on the ATV (which actually tells me they aren't going to kill it - the previous OS was just fine, why would they revamp the OS and then kill it??), but I can't imagine they'd put a touch OS on this thing - what benefit would that bring?

Faster processor, yes (MKV files are a no-go). 1080p, yes (for those that have 1080p equipment - not me currently, but maybe some day<smile>). Apps and games? Might be interesting, and might give me a real reason to upgrade. For now, my ATV is the one device I have that I use and enjoy over all my other devices.

I've seen iMac's used in galleries and shops, where the user will walk up to it and interact standing up, the downside is they have to use a mouse or keyboard, where as touch screen would be a much better choice. If software is going to be written for Window 7 to take advantage of touch screen technology, it would be pretty bad if that software i.e an interactive gallery app couldn't work on a Mac. Not for everyone, but maybe for one iMac model?

A special-purpose commercial/museum model makes some sense—maybe they’ve designed something for their own Apple Stores, and then plan to sell it to others too “because it’s there"? It sounds specialized, but if it works really well, who knows?

A home/office iMac with touch makes little sense though.

And third parties do already offer touchscreens for Mac.

See, it made sense for Apple to build on the iPhone with the iPad, because of the speed of adoption vs. the Mac.

I love the Mac. I'm using one now. It's a fantastic product. But, if I were to put my magic mouse to the side, and reach up to touch the screen....

I just can't see how this would benefit me. I can't see how or why I would enjoy using it more. I'd have to get closer, and even at low brightness, the iMac is too bright to be closer than 2-3 feet. Well I can't reach that far, comfortably.

This would have to be the equivalent of an HP touchsmart, with its own UI environment for interacting with your content (I wonder what UI env. they'd use....Front Row or iPad?) as navigating the standard MacOSX would simply not be easy, natural, or sensible with fingers.

Now, they could make a more capable desktop iPad, equipped with Finder and plugins and filesharing and everything. Something larger, heavier, less portable, Quad Core, 8 gigs of ram...

for about $2000.

Yes.. they call that "gorilla arms" because after a few minutes your arms will feel as big and as heavy as, perhaps, a gorilla's.

However, a Wacom Cintiq-kinda device would be interesting. One that would lie flat on the desk, or maybe like an draftsman table.
:)

Star Trek control panel?

I see this in the near future... or was it about two decades ago?

Adaptable, changing configuration depending on the needs.
(Thanks Star Trek Legacy Alliance wwwebsite!)

Y'know, I see the human condition changing into a Star Trek universe.
We have personal communicators and small tri-corder like devices...
I wonder why Paramount hasn't released a Communicator-style flip phone (or is that Phlip-phone?)

While there is certainly room for a new wall mount iMac – a touch screen for say in the kitchen maybe – but what about a wireless glass keyboard? No more mouse. Swipes are coming. Most definitely.

So if you take the dot pitch of the iPad screen and scale it up to 1440 x 2560, like the big iMacs, you get 22.24". Coincidence?

Create IPad tether / Link to your iPhone

Be gentle folks, this is my first post.

The IPad looks and sounds great!!! I am a serious user (not a techie) and feel frustrated that this great new gyzmo won't easily replace a laptop - but the reader looks great and the carrying weight is a huge appeal.

Enough preamble. I have an idea for a clever person(s) to create a money making App for the iPad. Don't know if the technology is possible but the idea seems sound. Hear me out. We really don't want yet another telco contract just to get a SIM card. WiFi is fine, 3G SIM is fine in home country. But there are occasions when getting on line is a must. So, the question / idea?

Can someone create an App that tethers (if that's the right expression) or WiFi links your Ipad to your iPhone so that the iPad can connect using the phones 3G connection? If the technology is possible, there's money to be made. :)

I drag my iMac into the lounge when I want to watch films and TV content from iTunes in the comfort of my lounge. It's a real pain though, I need to get an AppleTV

Rumor of another Apple Tablet / the Pro one

Link:

http://www.techcrunch.com/2010/02/01/apple-tablet-os-x-ipad/

"In the movie Contact, when revealing to main character Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) that there is actually a second space travel machine that was being built at the same time as the first one, but in secret, S.R. Hadden (John Hurt) says, “why build one when you can have two at twice the price?” Apple, it seems, may have the same line of thinking.

By now, we’ve all seen the iPad and know just about everything about it that we possibly can. But did you know that the secretive company may actually be hard at work on a second device already? Now, before I say anything else, take this information with a grain of salt. While it originated from a good source, it was a second-hand source. Meanwhile, I’ve corroborated some the main details with another source, but not some of the smaller ones. That said, from what I’m hearing, Apple is pretty far along on work on second tablet device. A bigger one. And this one may be much more like a Mac than an iPhone."

I'm sure this has already been brought up somewhere in one of the 10 iPad threads but why did Apple leave some of their standard Apps (Weather and Stocks) off the iPad and website? Are they still under development or will their be a new way to use them in 4.0 and if so why wouldn't Apple show the iPad at full potential? Rush to get it out?

If that story had any validity to it the current iPad would be the smaller 7' screen and the unreleased one would be 10'. I doubt they would release a 13" or bigger touch screen iPad that would just be awkward and hard to use.

Maybe the Touch-dock and Touch-dashboard will be in the Chin and the Chin will be black rather than metal. that way the front will all look black when off. Sleek and touchy
