I think there are very well people who know iPad but may not know who makes it. I;m pretty tech oriented but couldn't tell you much about Google Android and all the versions and companies that make Android phones.

A similar issue happened to Acura brand cars in the late 80s-90s. Their popular Legend car became more recognizable than the Acura brand. Many believe this is part of why Acura changed to generic letter names of their cars. but even today I hear lots of people ask who makes Lexus, Acura, or Infinitis.

and I've seen the pics of Sony's 2 tablets that are in the works. very nice. I read years ago how Sony and Apple were in talks about a shared project. would have been interesting if true, at that time Sony was the preeminent king of innovative hardware. Sonys ownership of media (movies, music, TV) limited their ability to offer open digital media devices, having to protect their media copyrights, and Sony lost the digital era to Apple and others.

People call all MP3 Players, iPods.

Which is even more fascinating because I avoid MP3 if at all possible, using AAC instead; the iTunes software imports music as AAC by default and not MP3; the iTunes music store _only_ sells AAC music and no MP3.

I once owned a PowerBook 100, made by Sony.
