Why would you buy an iPad to create spreadsheets? You think there are people who have an iPad for this purpose? Seriously? If that is what you need, then get a computer. Duh.

I also have no use for an iPad, not in its current configuration. But I don't feel any need to go around bashing it and its users on the internet. The needless bashing is why people call you a troll.

Gee I dunno ...
I guess it was a little program they Advertised called " NUMBERS "
I tried it out and it was crap.

So let me get this right : you ignore all negative revues of any and all products ?
You only care about the talking points ?

This is stupid

Anyone says ANYTHING they don't like about Apple and you fanboys jump on it and Sream Troll.

Not "corporate" per se, but definitely for business, we have an app in the app store which allows the users of our web application to manage the affairs of their nightclub, lounge, concert venue, and the like.

Traditionally, all of this is handled on paper and even little dry erase boards. We've essentially migrated all that to the iPad.

For those of you not familiar, in the nightclub world, typically there's guestlists for the events, and VIP table reservations, where, yeah, you essentially are paying for the privilege to sit down. Again, normally this is handled on paper, but we've migrated this to the iPad. When you show up to a venue, you tell the door guy your name, and he taps it off the list, or checks-in the reservation. The nice thing is too our app does customer tracking so they know in advance what your preferences are, i.e. "likes mezzanine seating, likes Grey Goose", that sort of thing.

Also, from a venue operator perspective, the input is invaluable.

I'm not really the sales guy, but the details are here:

What's the opposite of impressed?

Because that is what I would be if I was trying to by a car and some J@ckA$$ pulled out some stupid gimmick iPad to wow me.

I might agree with you--if it were only a gimmick; however, if it shows real information in a way that doesn't waste paper and updates itself to the salesperson's inputs, then maybe you should pay attention. They might lose you as a customer, but then, would they want you as a customer? If you're that opinionated about a piece of technology, then you're likely to be a very poor service customer for them--bringing your car back for warranty service for every little perceived glitch even when one doesn't exist.

Saving printing costs is a real benefit of the iPad. You may not realize it yourself as a consumer, but businesses can see a significant savings if they only need to print out a completed contract and not all the offers and counter-offers. One chain of television stations in Georgia forecasts a savings of over $40,000 per station in just their first year of use of the iPad to replace paper scripts.

Who cares what it weighs unless it reduces the 2 trillion healthcare spend?

How about the soldiers who are already carrying as much as 150 pounds in desert heat? Every pound saved means a little bit more energy for them to walk their patrols. Sure, be selfish. At least you're sitting in a nice, cool, air-conditioned office.

I still havent come up with a reason as to why I would purchase one of these to replace my laptop. Read books? Uh,no!!!!!!!to be cool? Uh,no!!!!!!!

Instead of trying to figure out how to replace your laptop, try instead to figure out where your laptop fails you--like when you're walking door-to-door making a survey or trying to take donations for a charity--like when you're walking between machines in your factory with a checklist and noting comments--that you don't have to re-type in the office--like standing shoulder-to-shoulder with your sales client showing them most recent photographs at a photo shoot.

You think too small, my friend. Anything you could do on a paper and pencil clipboard can pretty much be done on an iPad--even to creating fine art.

Yup ,...Lets see who is the troll now.

I'm still pissed about those comments.

Guess you are too busy trying to figure out how to pretend you can effectively create and export an Excel document....

Oh Well

Excel is over-rated and under-utilized. 90% of the people who use it don't use 90% of the features and probably don't understand half of them. The same holds true for all the rest of the Office apps. Simply put, Office is far more application than even a corporation needs. I would wager that Microsoft could pare down each app by 50% and not affect the true functionality of the programs.

It's how you say things that get people upset. How about offering some reasoning rather than simply "I don't like it, so it's crap."(paraphrased)

(Sheesh! Get the idea I'm the only person reading these comments today?)

OMG I used to say this 10 years ago :) to date it still is more than what most use. We have admin staff here that I have to show simple tasks in Office :p
thus why most coders use notepad :)

If the town hall at Long Beach Long Island, where I live, gets iPads, I'll scream. Taxes rise because there is not one thing you can find in equipment catalogs that they don't buy. Dune buggies for the beach workers, special versions of same for the cops; even that two-wheeled upright vehicle that you see in the malls, usually supporting some overweight nitwit who can use the exercise.
