There won't be any other tablet out there that'll have a better screen until next year (or late this year). I've got nearly all of the Tegra-2 ones, and the screens are a mixed bag of specs with the occasional IPS and the common LCD-TFT.

Most come with 1gb of system RAM though. I'll agree Apple could have done better there.

For one thing, I would love a Retina display on the iPad right now. But to be not impressed because of that? No. I have played with the iPad in stores and it's a great device, but how is the better screen going to change everything else about the device for you?

Also, complaining about the gig of RAM? Now we know you weren't serious about the iPad in the first place.

Lack of better screen may be one reason to potentially hold off, but that's just one feature of the device. We can enjoy the rest.

You could say that, but even at 512mb, the iPad runs smoother and operates more efficiently than every other tablet on the market. After a lot of modifications and coding changes, I have been able to get my Touchpad close to how smoothly my ipad2 runs. I think the stock Transformer was the only Android based tablet that was close to the iPad. Every other one I tried sucked.

The thing is Apple intentionally cripples the iPad so that people upgrade every time. Look at iPad 1, it had 256MB RAM which was less that what iPhone had at that time. That annoys me, still its the best tablet out there.

This thread. I'm not impressed

Just picked up a wifi 16gig ipad2. My biggest gripe is the screen resolution. This is PATHETIC. X-plane looks like some 8 bit nintendo game. It's just really sad, I'm surprised apple didn't the screen on the 2. It's UNACCEPTABLE.
Its a good browser and if it had a better screen and maybe a gig of ram and came WITH the smart cover(I though it did) I could see dropping over $500 dollars for this thing. It's going back.

These issues has been hashed and rehashed on this forum since before the release of iPad 2. Where have you been OP.

What are you talking about? iPad 1 was announced in Jan. released in March/April. iPhone 3GS was the current iPhone and it had 256MB ram, not till end of June did the iPhone 4 come out and that then had 512MB. iPad 2 followed suit and had 512MB. iPhone 5 may have 1GB, then iPad 3 will have 1GB.

And it's the same deal with iPad getting the better processor first, etc.

I know. It's just that it IS a screen. They could of done better. I feel as it it's just not close to being worth what they charge. I got the total base model and ia feel jacked. Bottom line, iPad has potential but currently it's just poorly executed.

No I tried them out before but never played xplane, which looks KILLER on my iPhone, and on my MacBook pro. I just can't believe this iPad 2 is the current version, and it's $500+ it seems over priced and outdated

You speak of this "xplane" app.

Answer me this and I'll leave you alone. Which version are you running on your iPad? Is it the iPhone or the iPad version?

Um, the resolution is excellent. Retina is the exception, not the rule.

And more RAM complaint? The device is super fast. Right now I have 10 apps running (while I am typing this) and the device is running extra smooth. If somebody gave you an iPad 2 with 1gb of RAM, I bet you wouldnt even notice a difference.

Troll thread, tbh. Probably a jaded Playbook, Touchpad or Galaxy Tab owner.

He is probably running the iPhone verision, enlarged. The iPad version (9.99$, separate purchase) looks amazing.

This is so embarrasing for the OP.

Apple clearly knew 256MB wouldn't be sufficient. And obviously iPhone 4's specs would've been decided by then. They still went ahead with 256MB so it'd be one of the reasons for people to upgrade. Again when competition was offering 1GB RAM, Apple went with 512MB RAM for iPad 2. The next iPad will have 1GB RAM and so on. Same thing with the cameras, no camera for 1st gen, crappy cameras for 2nd gen, descent cameras for 3rd gen and so on.

The thing is, do we really need 1gb? The device is running much smoother than all of the 1gb Androids with what it has. I have yet to see an app that slows down.

That's what I figured. Yeah, truly embarrassing on the OP's part, sad really.

Cool story, and all that shizzle.

Apple iPad 1 had 256MB RAM, when iPad 2 came out with 512MB RAM apps took advantage of it. Same with the camera, many said camera is pointless on a tablet device but its pretty useful (especially for video calls). There's no denying in the fact that Apple intentionally hold the technology so as to make people upgrade every year.

I wonder why other tablet competitors don't come out with a higher res screen, or are they waiting for apple?

High res. requires significant amount of graphic processing power which isn't possible on a mobile device. There are other problems to it, power, heat, battery, etc. Thats one of the main reasons why there aren't high-res tablets.

You still haven't answer my question. Which version of X-plane are you running on your iPad 2?

On the left is the iPhone version blown up to fill the iPad screen. On the right, the iPad version running at native resolution.

No you don't :)

I for one would love to have more RAM so that stupid safari stop reloading pages (lack of ram) when i open safari or switch to it.

But as with Everything Apple, they will release ipad3 with 1GB of ram as a "refresh" and then ipad will have 1gb of RAM and it will be revolutionary :)

the gig of ram gave you away, Troll much??? Now gtfo

+1

Knows that is has 512 MB of ram, a spec not listed on the apple site but can't look up the screen res before hand.

LOL

I bet most apple employees could not tell how much ram it has! I bet they would ask you " you you want a smart cover with your ipad purchase?

Will you be going with it? A year later and you are complaining about this now? Troll thread....

Additionally, I think it's lame that even though I have a at&t iPhone I have to pay for an additional data plan for my iPad( hence the wifi)
