iPadOS 14 Developer beta for daily use?

Same advice I always give, if you need rock solid reliability and can’t take the risk of crashing or dropped calls at a critical moment, then running a beta isn’t for you. Otherwise jump in, the waters fine and it’s a lot of fun.

I restored back to 13.5.1

Too many bugs for me that bother me...for example recording a voice note while connected to CarPlay is hit or miss..the camera locks up or hangs some times and my watch doesn't vibrate at all when someone calls me

I kinda suspect Apple knew iOS 13 was borked early on and really needed to hit a home run with 14. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn they pulled engineers from the 13 team to help.

It’s early yet, but 14 seems pretty solid

I’m guessing you’re right. It’s surprisingly stable. I haven’t experienced anything besides a few graphical twitches with the widgets and the weather listing Cupertino. All my apps work.

I’d definitely suggest that anyone try it out on a secondary device—I am trying it on my primary, but I don’t need my phone for work. Just be sure to make an iTunes backup.

Of course, take in mind that stability can change with subsequent betas.

There is no point in going from developer to public beta branch, they‘re both one and the same. Only difference is that PB1 is usually the second DB and that public builds usually hit a week after the developer ones early on (and later on a few hours or a day after the dev beta hits).

Animations render at 10 fps randomly giving my iPhone X a sluggish feel. But they fix themselves automatically. All my apps work so this is surprisingly a good beta.

I doubt these people are reporting any bugs they encounter via the feedback app or otherwise contributing to the improvement of the platform in any meaningful way. They just want to play around with a new software release for the fun of it.

For me it is good for daily use. Haven’t encounter much in the way of bugs or performance impact. I think it is critical that you know you might encounter those, and might need to reset or downgrade and lose of your information. If you are aware of that, know how to backup your information and how to recover for disaster then go. If you don’t, then stay away

I'm not a developer, but I did get a "by invitation only" thing, so I am on developer betas (though when I installed, it was labeled as "public").

For a first beta...I'm actually surprised. Battery leaves a bit to be desired, but I expect that this early. Honestly of the bugs I've sent feedback on so far...the most annoying ones are the notification badge on my Settings app despite not having anything in there that needs to be addressed, and that the default iOS 14 wallpapers seem a little washed out. Ever since I downloaded on Monday, I've been kicked out of an app like twice total.

Is it on my daily use device? Yep. Phone and iPad. Despite receiving the invitation for macOS, I didn't (and won't) jump on that one. I need my MacBook for work. In terms of daily use, the biggest gripe is the battery, but again, that's expected. I'm pretty satisfied so far to be honest. I will say though that what seems to hit my battery the hardest is listening to music, even with the screen off. That hits it a little harder than even Facebook does.

Gen-6 iPad (WiFi, 128GB, Pencil) since 6/23 - it's been completely stable, a few missing features mentioned elsewhere but no crashes or show-stoppers, no connectivity issues, no browsing issues with Firefox or Safari. Memory: System - 7.37GB, Other - 8.94GB.

Been using dev. beta 1 since Monday, and I have to say this is an incredibly stable 1st beta. They must have really been prepared this year. I've had zero problems on my 11 pro max, Apple Watch, or iPad Pro. Very stable. Hopefully it stays that way on the next few betas. Much better than 12 or 13 betas. Crazy, but using on my daily drivers. Haven't had any problems on MacBook Air with OS 11 either.
