For those that claim multitasking is for keyboards only. There’s a sample of quickly doing SplitView and “SlideOver”. Since 26 was released, I’ve probably gone closer to 60/40 between Magic Keyboard and just using as a tablet.

Just updated my 2020 ipad pro 11… what is this. This cartoony jumble mess :(
Even the toggles are weird and half rectangle. Why would they give up twenty years of round toggle “branding” for this oval bubbly thing. Not a fan at all. Will be keeping my phone and other devices off of 26. This is terrible.

The multitasking windows are cool… that part I like. But that’s pretty much it.

Also the whole time ive been typing this, the suggested text above the keybord is my login for this website 🤦🏻‍♂️

You can roll back using Mac and manually loading the OS. Caveat is hope you had a backup as this wipes the device. Drop me a PM if you need a hand.

That is really nice of you thank you, but I’m ok I will keep it on it. My iPad is sorta my slush device for this kinda stuff. I don't like it but it is the way forward unfortunately.
No worries. FWIW I also have a pro 11 m1 that’s become an expensive notepad / article reader / beta workhorse!

I tried OS26 using the Beta. I downgraded after 4 days.

I have automatic updates switched off and will stick with iOS 18 for as long as possible. :D
I've just done the same. It's a real shame as been running Tahoe for a while now and it looks great. Usually wait for .1/.2 when it comes to the phone, but this might be .7/.8!

I literally can't turn off my device manually with reset (vol up, down, reset) , or CC power button

The multi window thing is stuck on the side edge and I can't open literally any apps.

Luckily the battery is rapidly draining on home menu and those NC widgets but man not off to a good start.

Happened while trying to side load Sidestore/Altstore. That may be the culprit, but I should at least be able to power down

I can't even wipe it from my computer because it says to turn off find my first and I can't even get into settings app.

Oof.

I also don't even understand the new multitasking window thing, doesn't seem overly intuitive.

I use my MBP for work. I’m self employed. Last time I upgraded to the latest Mac OS, one of my software stopped working. The software provider didn’t update the software for the new OS, but instead tells users to buy their latest software.

Inevitably I will upgrade to Tahoe, but for now there is no rush as I just need all most software to work faultlessly.

For what it's worth, I have an M4 Max I use for work that has not been updated, my M2 Pro has been retired for beta testing, travel and running Asahi Linux. No way am I putting a beta, even an RC on my main laptop! I usually wait for .1/.2 and i can test out anything I might need on the older one.

I did have to manually update xcode / xcode command line tools to get some homebrew packages working (alhtough this will sort itself out with a non Beta / RC release) as well as having some legacy audio software play up, so i will definitely be waiting..

Usually I don’t mind updating to the latest OS. One of the reason I don’t is because I have some software that I own outright. The new versions are either subscriptions only, are a regression in features or are stuffed with credit based AI feature that I don’t need.

However I look forward to watching a few videos on Tahoe to learn what’s new and whether glass feature can be heavily toned down. :)

I wish I had a test computer but only have an M1 MBP. I’m much more experimental with my iPad, hence why i tested the beta 2-3 months ago and rolled back without any penalty or disruption to my life.

I feel this on an emotional level. I have a copy of Photoshop CC17 and Lightroom (Classic) on an Intel MPB that i still edit all of my photos on... Subscription models, especially from adobe are horrid.

I found my personal hotspot greyed out after the update today. I was using it yesterday on iPadOS 18.6.2. it's not even within the cellular data section. I haven't update my iPhone just in case I loose it there as well. Anyone having the same experience?

I don’t mean bugs. I expect bugs in a beta.

I mean the UX is a hot mess.

The entire multitasking system is now so convoluted and cumbersome that I am truly worried about how on Earth this was approved. I guarantee the people working on these systems did not want them to go live – this reeks of c-suite pushing things live to appease shareholders and stock analysts.

I really hope some on the leadership team are able to steer the ship back to reliability and ease-of-use focused UX.

This is not a “Jobs would never have done this” kind of post. This is a frustration post at how far Apple has strayed from the values which made them one of the top players in tech - those values, and the products they drive were not built my one man.

I think Apple jumped the shark. Time to repair this breaking organization and get back to fundamentals.

Customer experience, reliability, usability, and functionality.

Edit: I’ve asked the mods for the post to be deleted. I don’t know if they will, but I’m done.
Check my replies below if you like. This was a simple vent/rant that’s turned way too ugly for my liking.
Take care.
Just bricked my IPad Mjni 7

Yes, I will, too:

I don’t like design changes. I take longer than most to get used to them and I end up missing the older versions even years after purchase.

I still miss iOS 9 on my iPhone 6s and 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Apple forced both out of iOS 9.

I like the older lockscreen font for the time. Luckily, I have one iPad/iPhone combo on iOS/ iPadOS 15 and older (iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12) and one on iOS/iPadOS 18. I’m not updating anything.
