That's exactly what I am talking about. The battery drain while in use is not noticeably different than it was with iOS18 / macOS Sonoma. But the standby is significantly worse on both my iPad and MacBook. I am not a software guy, so I may be speaking out of my back orifice, but I don't think these two operating systems share code, they are too different. So the common issue with both of them that seem to have been introduced after update to the new version of OS has got something to do with added or changed features.
I’ve been playing around with standby and fwiw what I’ve noticed is turning off WiFi stops the battery drain. Though this could be a case of ymmv.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but as I understand it, while macOS and iPadOS are different, they do actually share quite a bit of code beneath the surface, and they have been growing closer in years of late as Macs have switched to Apple Silicon.

I haven’t personally noticed bad standby battery life for my iPad, though I never ran this iPad on iPadOS 18, I had an 11” M1 iPad that ran 18, so perhaps it’s lower than 18. I get an average of two days of heavy use with my iPad, which is what I was getting before with my 11” M1. I guess maybe I don’t use standby battery enough to notice a difference, since I use my iPad so heavily. 👍🏻

Also, while it’s very possible that battery is being impacted by the OS, it is also possible that third-party apps can lead to increased battery drain as well. If third-party apps haven’t properly optimized with updates, sometimes this can lead to increased battery drain when the app is running, even when the iPad is in sleep mode due to increased RAM use and the iPad trying to keep it suspended in memory. So often increased battery drain is caused by third party apps that aren’t properly optimized yet. While it’s true that sometimes part of increased battery drain is caused by new versions of OS, it’s also generally true that many third-party apps may fail to implement optimizations for the new OS version, and this can lead to increased battery drain as well. 👍🏻

Upgraded to iPadOS 26.4 on my M4 iPad Pro and now any time I try to use any Safari Extension, Safari crashes. I tried offloading all my extensions, restarting and re-installing one and the same thing happens.

I'll just post it here.

So much for attention to detail and creating a premium experience...
I’ve seen this behavior in the GMail app, but never in Safari. In the GMail app the overlap is bad enough to make it hard to tap affected icons.
I think this has been happening since Stage Manager came out. I mostly get it after an app shows a fullscreen video (so Safari often). Rotating the display once and back so the view refreshes "fixes" it.

Here’s a thread of actual professional artists (not YouTube cosplayers) complaining about how iPadOS 26 has ruined their work (hundreds upon hundreds of comments).

Three months until WWDC26. Time to fix what you broke, Apple. ⏰
Not sure what is happening. But I know if there were major issues with iPadOS 26 the internet would be ragging on apple, which is not something I have been seeing.

TigerMSTR literally just presented you with a thread of people saying that there are major issues with it. I could present multiple threads from Bluesky of people hating on it, and I have never gone looking for them.

Just because your little corner of the Internet doesn’t have these people doesn’t mean they’re not out there.

And similarly just because some people have posted about some issues an O/S doesnt mean a vast majority do have issues or do post their satisfaction.

As typical of anonymous internet posting confirmation bias exists all around.

If in fact your position had any merit, one would expect to find people praising it in roughly equal measure to those criticizing it. But we don’t see that. I have never seen spontaneous bursts of enthusiasm for 26 on the Internet off of enthusiast websites. Why would that be?

Feel free to link to a Twitter or Bluesky thread of people praising it as validation of your view.

That you see more negative threads than positive says more about human nature than iOS and iPadOS 26.

However we are all free to believe what we want. (Including myself)

I have no problems with iPadOS 26 and 26.4 smoothed out the animation glitches. It runs fine for me with an M2 iPad Air and Mini 7. The only issue I would like to see corrected is the missing .com key in Safari. I have had to switch to Google Gboard.

It’s ridiculous that this ever became a problem.

Other problems: if you have no app on the screen and open a Quick Note, the keyboard displays behind the dock. The only way to get it in front of the dock is to open an app.

Reader mode text in Safari still – still! – overlays the status bar in portrait mode.

And yet I’ve never seen a thread of people dissing the MacBook Neo. I have, on the other hand, seen them praising the Neo. How does “human nature” explain this difference? 🤨🧐
Saw plenty of internet noise relating to the Neo that was less than complimentary. And objectively it was all true, and yet not applicable to me at the same time.

And the same for iPadOS 26. Not saying iOS 26 is perfect but it’s far from being a dumpster fire. iPadOS and iOS 26 could objectively have issues and have those issues not applicable to the masses. Multiple things can be true at once.

I refer to it as the MacBook No. I'm a Mac Mini user but if I wanted a MacBook, i'd get the Air. I view the Neo as basically a 12.9" iPad with a physical keyboard that can run macOS.

Yes, and despite its attractions I have no plans to get one myself, because I’m an iPad guy. But my point was that if human nature explains the preponderance of negative views of iPadOS 26 on the Internet as Mr I7 suggests, then likewise there should be a preponderance of negative views of the Neo because of human nature. But there just isn’t.

So hand waving off the criticisms of 26 as a consequence of human nature doesn’t hold any water.

The photo gallery is still with bugs. Pictures get zoomed to the screen ratio, resulting in side parts of the picture being outside of the visible screen. It's not possible to see full pictures with black bars on the sides like it used to be in iOS 18 and all the years before.

I don't know, but the overall experience is not good anymore.

Yes to all of this. It really is just a diminished overall experience.

Well there are a number of negative reviews, but like everything YMMV. There also is a difference in the numbers of the install base of MacBook Neo vs IOS an iPad os 26. Additionally the Neo is a physical product vs the underlying operating system. In many of the reviews, it is buried where the reviewer states the screen isn’t bright or the speakers aren’t loud or the usb ports stink etc.

Sure. We all have our opinions on an anonymous Internet forum. Take what you want and leave the rest. 🙂

iPadOS 26 is a stellar up that makes better use of the iPads power while retaining it’s familiar look and feel.

The person in the video clearly doesn’t have a clue… 🤦🏼‍♂️🙄. Fullscreening one app, throwing another window over it, and then expecting to draw under that window just doesn’t make any sense. If you actually wanted Slide Over it’s extremely simple, either select slide over from the Window menu in the menu bar, or hold press the green traffic light button and select the slide over option. It’s incredibly simple. And if you wanted a setup like the one they were trying to create, just create a Split View view (which they even had before they undid it so clumsily), and just grab the little drag bar between the two split view windows and slide it over the one direction. It’s incredibly easy… 🤦🏼‍♂️

That thread is just a rage-bait. The person very obviously isn’t using it the way it should be…

I’ve seen several content creators who were extremely critical (I would argue overly so), who actually gave some very positive reviews on iPadOS 26. I’ve seen tons of positive impressions of iPadOS 26, the only main places I see negativity are in this forum and Reddit… 🤷🏼‍♂️

And ragebait like that thread just makes actual issues people may be encountering harder to find, and get drowned out by all the hollow noise, so it isn’t very helpful.
