Why should she buy an iPad only to play that game?
Humans DO not live forever and there IS plenty of things ( unknown ) out there that can enrich us!
So WHY limit?

She can play that game on a cheeper notebook! -- was my advice.

Why on Earth are you trying to dictate others' preferences?

See?
Was easy!

Clearly it was not for her!

Um, that was what everyone has been trying to tell you. The point is that if it had played the game she wanted, and she was willing to pay $500, then what's the problem? Why should she prefer a cheaper netbook, which you seemed so keen she should?

I live in CT, and am surrounded by people who drive a mile a day in $80,000 BMWs. They could do the same thing in $9,000 Nissans, but they don't.

Glad you ASK!

Why he ask?
I though it is polite to give advice.
I actually wrote for him to take her to an Apple store for her to make her mind?
I would be reluctant to spend 500 on a thing i'll not use regularly, but that is because i am broke.

I dictated nothing therefore.

Sir, your English is bad, but you may not be a native speaker. Nevertheless, you're now suggesting that someone has limited ability to expand their mind if they don't consider an iPad, which is even less rational.

I play one or two computer games very rarely, I have a low end graphics chip (still better than the one on most old Macs, but I digress), and I have lots of interesting things which I like to take up my time on - I don't want to investigate more opportunities to play computer games. To suggest that, just because I play one game, I am guilty of not expanding my mind if I don't consider wasting money on hardware to play other games, follows no train of logic.

THAT VIDEO... so sad.

People are screaming and making triumph signs as if buying a product is something of merit and accomplishment. So stupid. It's a limited platform computer! I can understand wanting one, but this kind of misdirected euphoria is disgusting.

I'll get one myself later this year when they debug it all and add some more stuff onto the device. It isn't going to save my life, like these people are acting, just going to make mobile computing more convenient.

That's how it was for the iPhone last summer. When the store was opening, all the Apple employees were clapping. That's how Apple is with this kind of stuff.

Sir i wrote that my english is bad.
But if you are honest you'd have figured that i suggested NOT to buy the iPad just for that game.

At this point, I don't think you have any idea what your argument is.

Whatever, I'm more interested in reading more from iPad owners. Sorry to the other thread participants for being partly responsible for derailing it.

She can afford it, WHY not.

Whether one can afford something is a very subjective question. Maybe I already have some alternatives considered? Maybe I still have money left over, but so spending it leads to a loss of value or principle? Maybe I should be saving or investing the money rather than spending it?

Consumer culture is way too much about "if I have the money/credit, and it seems fun, why shouldn't I buy it?" How about the following principle: if you can think of no better method to do something yourself, and there's not something more pressing to consider, spend money to get it done. Otherwise do it yourself.

I'm still looking forward to hear people's experience doing sustained work on the iPad (typing or what have you), rather than casual browsing / media. I'd welcome some subjective comments to compare with my tablet PC experience, as I'm always on the lookout for a more effective portable terminal. This is the kind of thing that would make me able to "afford" an iPad, regardless of the $ in my account.

It is called common sense.
I did not wrote about iPad.

Be honest.

You can afford it,buy it!
Then why all that nonsense?

It is what i wrote.
It is not for me, i am broke.

And here is the place to obtain that level of expertise?
You cannot even see people face to face or touch the actual machine?

Whatever. There's no point in continuing. You shift the goalposts with each post.

Moving on: could any owners post a pic or two of the device in their hands? In both orientations, showing keyboard coverage?

Here are some more interesting first impressions, from an...unusual source.

Here's a flavor: "Anyone who believes this thing is a game changer is a tool. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is."

And he should know.

I guess you have to tell him What an iPad is!
Other than that it is a silly question!

You rip your DVDs to a single file right?
Put that single file inside iTunes and convert to yr iPad, iPhone, iPod or Zune.
Or do you want iTunes to rip DVDs?

Who said there is There is no excel or powerpoint export.?
Isn't iPad Windows compatible?

Stop being ridiculous!

My wife regularly has trouble opening powerpoint files made on Windows inside Keynote.
So what?

I just get the feeling that there just isn't that much of a difference between an iPad and an iPod Touch, sadly. The OS is incredible on the iPod, but weak on the iPad.

Oh god, Paul Thurrott? That guy is awful.

Oh god, Paul Thurrott? That guy is awful.

I like Paul. He uses an iPhone. He calls out Microsoft on many issues.

He's the closest to unbiased as we are going to get it seems. A lot of the initial iPad reviews were biased because of the conflict of interest regarding the reviewers' need to have the iPad succeed in order to rescue the print industry and thus their jobs.

Paul's reviews are rather tame.

Funny how M$ messengers disguise themselves here.
Do you think that your biased argument do influence anyone?

Well, you just tear off the mask.
You read that awful guy, and it is already clear to you. iPad sucks!

As i said you are NOT honest.

Patience and frugality are lost skills nowadays.

How can you like/dislike a[nything] think you never used/know?

You might be amazed to hear that there are many stores -- both Apple and third-party -- where you can see and use iPads, just as you would any consumer product you were considering buying. The one I used is 2 miles from my house. In addition, much of the iPad has been explained in many reviews and tutorials. Finally, I am reasonably familiar with much of the OS from 2.5 years of iPhone ownership.

How can you like/dislike anything you never use/know? C'mon, admit it you are payed to be a troll, otherwise you need yr head examined!
I think that your lack of comprehension of English as a foreign language is causing you to misinterpret what people are saying. If you have a fluent English speaker available, you might want to go through some of the posts you and others have made in this thread. This may help you understand what they meant, and improve your experience on the forum. Otherwise, welcome, etc.
