Heaven forbid people are happy for something. If only the world was full of complaining cynics like yourself.

I agree! Your life must be pretty miserable if you feel the need to rain on someone else's parade.

My 8-year old daughter's exact words as I took mine out of the box:

"So what is that, like a giant iPhone you can't put in your pocket?"

She's grounded for a week.

You're looking at it the wrong way round

How is forcing thousands of programmers to change everything because Jobs (and his fanboys) hate flash in a sites best interest?

cinten,

You're looking at it the wrong way round. All sites need eyeballs. A site is pretty pointless unless people look at it. No site is going to willingly exclude itself from potential eyeballs.

Plus. What's the real (financial) driver of the internet? Advertising. What's your friendly neighbourhood advertising executive going to do when he finds his adverts don't appear on some computing devices? Yes, he'll kick the **** of some poor little tecchie guy until his adverts appear everywhere.

I got it!

#1 - its great fast and feels perfect. Just right in weight or lets say its just shy of being heavy. Solid feel like the Iphone.

#2 - The Apple iPad basic Case - The speaker holes are cut wrong and do not really let the speaker play without it being slightly covered. All-though the audio is still loud enough. The Audio level is loud and perfect without it.

#3 - Browsing and apps are FAST - Netflix & Youtube rock!!! - HD YouTube plays perfectly.

#4 - iPhoto is great just looks wonderful and again very fluid. This is something windows and Chrome/Android products have all had problems with.... they just don't operate with the same fluid speed that the iPad possesses.

#5 - 2nd app I purchased was the National Geographic MAP IPAD app - watch out it has problems and crashed and acted wacky.

I'm very happy with the whole deal. Apple has done it again.

If the Grandparents won't have her, it may not be too late to adopt her out?

She's almost exactly right... for small people with above average near-vision eyesight.

For normal big people, it's the other way around: an iPod Touch is an iPad that's too small with which to easily read and navigate full-sized e-books/web-pages/videos/apps, etc.

finally. now let's move on... macbook pros next week? maybe an iMac update?

QFT. Please, Apple. The rest of us have to get real work done with real computers. Goodness knows we've waited FAR LONGER than we should have had to.

The :apple: symbol is becoming synonymous with outdated here in the lab...

So I have my ipad and I want to put some of my videos I ripped off my DVDs onto it.

how to you convert those? in itunes it doesn't have "convert for ipad" and I'm not sure what to do.

Apple ahead of the curve with Html5?
hmmm... why do we have flash? Perhaps because its the year 2010 and html is still in 1996? ;)

Instead of bashing flash, html should have been updated years ago. :)

Peace

dAlen

HTML5 is a far cry from the HTML of 1996. Look it up, you'll be surprised. As for Flash, being somebody that works with the platform on a regular basis and one that browses sites riddled with Flash ads and apps, I say it's either time for it to improve or die out. More often than not, if my browser crashes, it's due to Flash. Whether I'm in OS X or Windows I experience the same issues (albeit it's much more apparent on a Mac). And since downloading and installing ClickToFlash, my Safari browsing experience has improved tenfold.

I also assumed so, but it does not mention lyrics at ALL in the online user guide, so it probably does NOT. I will not buy an iPad unless if displays lyrics. Has anyone actually tried this yet?

Tony

Apple doesn't mention lots things, trivial things or not.
Lyrics is just text, insert it in yr file thru itunes and you have it.

Remember the old joke about how Java is Write Once, Debug Everywhere? It was so true on the desktop that Java has all but disappeared from applets, but fewer people acknowledge that the same applies to HTML. Worse, a web developer is less likely to see uniform HTML rendering behaviour across browsers than he is to see Flash working identically across Flash-supporting platforms!

Yes, HTML5 is a far cry from the HTML of 1996, in that today it's a mess. HTML was designed as a mark-up language, not a precise layout language or an application UI delivery language, and it couldn't be more obvious. Apple realised this when they abandoned the idea of HTML as an iPhone app delivery platform early on. I'm confident that Apple hate Java/Flash but embrace HTML because they know that HTML is no competition for the lock-in of iApps (and they can help or hinder it through W3C anyway, as all the big boys do).

Yes, GIVEN that the lyrics are embedded as text in the music file, DO THEY ACTUALLY DISPLAY ON THE iPAD?

It seems like a simple question that would take someone about 5 seconds to find out. Yet, I can't seem to get this answered.

Tony

I'm not cynical at all over the device, but if you can't see what I'm saying, you must be in an empty world. These people cheering like they just won life's lottery need tangible hobbies...

INTERNET PORN AND COMPUTER GAMES ARE NOT A HOBBY.

Breaks hearts to hear, but it's true.

Many people make a life doing porn, it is just a work.
And with iPad you have no access to free porn, right?

It is more about possessing things, is that bad?
If you attend college and are working, you can afford an iPad!

I have 1 par of sneakers only, when broken i'll buy another. It has been always my motto, My wife have too many, i almost cannot count.

And no i'll not buy an iPad, because it is not for me yet.
But let people have fun.
No big deal.

If it is embedded in yr file and your file can be read by yr iPad then Yes!
Do you have an iPod or iPhone?
When playing a song just tap on the screen you'll see the lyrics.

You're kidding me? I atleast expected it to have a decent video player, maybe with optional downloadable codecs, but it really is just an iPod, isn't it.

From some Apple fans. ;) Then there's all those who happen to use Macs, find them very reliable, but don't necessarily love all that Apple do.

From what I've read about iPad, I think it'll sell well. Maybe I'll even buy one in a couple of years. For now though, a small laptop with matte screen for about the same money will be far more useful to me. As Apple don't do anything less than the 15" MBP with a matte option, it'll have to be a Win 7 job.

FWIW, I have 2 Macs that I regard very highly, so will likely continue to buy Mac desktops in future. Point is, there's a fair few Mac owners who don't readily buy into everything with an Apple logo on it.

Strange you have to defend yourself.
He clearly knows that already, he can read actually.

I find it strange that in a country allergic to the idea of a social state people get pissed upon a sight of spending euphoria.

Free Will baby.
He should respect that!

This is why I rather have a Windows 7 tablet, I could at least just install the codecs and just watch the videos. The idea of having to convert them is not cool, like with the PSP.
