iTunes 9.1 DO convert to iPad!

But he wants to play the DVD rips natively on the iPad without having to wait hours until iTunes has finshed converting the files.

It's the same with Numbers and Keynote on the iPad. There is no excel or powerpoint export.

So if you want to view the docs on a PC you first have to get a Mac with iWorks, sync it with the iPad. Load the Docs from the iPad, export them to Excel/powerpoint and transfer them from the Mac to the PC....

If it is embedded in yr file and your file can be read by yr iPad then Yes!
Do you have an iPod or iPhone?
When playing a song just tap on the screen you'll see the lyrics.

Did you actually ACTUALLY SEE this anywhere? The music player is DIFFERENT in the iPad then it is in the iPhone or iPod. The iPhone itself did not display lyrics until O/S 2.0.

Can someone just TRY this? NO MORE GUESSING!

Tony

Anyone can confirm the amount of RAM (DRAM) of the iPad? At least 1GB should be needed for a good multitasking in future firmware updates.

The music player is DIFFERENT ?
Now you are being ridiculous!

It is iTunes n there!

I

I guess you have to tell him What an iPad is!
Other than that it is a silly question!

You rip your DVDs to a single file right?
Put that single file inside iTunes and convert to yr iPad, iPhone, iPod or Zune.
Or do you want iTunes to rip DVDs?

Who said there is There is no excel or powerpoint export.?
Isn't iPad Windows compatible?

Stop being ridiculous!

My wife regularly has trouble opening powerpoint files made on Windows inside Keynote.
So what?

I guess that people by now know that you can't print anything from the iPad, which IMHO sucks. No multitasking ok... but not being able to print anything? Come on!

So, there was no "surprise" or "one more thing" involved? If so, why was there so much secrecy and security involved? I'm starting to wonder what they were hiding.

There was not much secrecy about the product after the keynote. Since the launch, the only change was mute to orientation (which could have been a goof mimicking the iPhone diagram or not).

There was secrecy about where the iPads are for a very simple reason is that Apple doesn't want them stolen. If you tell large numbers of random people that there are hundreds, thousands ,etc. of expensive devices in a fixed location... sometimes folks show up and steal them.

The access was controlled, but that is not surprising for a product where the software is still in flux and people are covered by Non Disclosure.

Much of the "secrecy" was invented by folks outside of Apple. "It has to have my feature ... camera/etc. ... and they slide it in there before launch.".
All Apple has to do is give the remote appearance of something and folks invent stuff to align with they particular feature war talking point.

And oh yeah, neither the iPad nor the Macbook Pro fits in my pocket. So it's hard to justify the iPad on the "portability" front.

Right ........ there is no utility difference between a MBP and some 8-9 lbs laptop or between the MBA and the MBP 17" .

Actually iPad does multitask, as iPhod, iPhone.
Read a tech writer, A. Ihnatko's iPad and Multitasking

We are living in the WIFI age baby!
People with iPad are required to have a computer i thought.

I wonder the point of making oneself look ridiculous?
Got it!
SM.

It's iTunes, yes. But it's not the same as the iPHONE player - it's completely different. And, unlike the iPhone player, iTunes as software DOES NOT automatically DISPLAY lyrics while the song is player - you have to "Get Info" for each song - it doesn't switch when the song changes. I doubt the iPad has a "Get Info" dialog, so it might NOT display lyrics.

Of course, there's a simple answer to this if someone WOULD JUST TRY IT!

Tony

CONFIRMED. When you tap the album cover art while a song is playing on iPad, the lyrics overlay just like iPhone/Touch.

Tap again and live video of Steve Jobs singing along displays in the corner.

256MB.

Also, stop making up stuff like "1GB is required for good multitasking". Do you work for Apple? Do you know how it is implemented?

Let me answer that for you, uhm, no.

Isn't iPad Windows compatible?

Engadget says so.

"However, Numbers doesn't export natively to Excel, making a connection to iWork on the desktop necessary to share with Microsoft Office users."

"(Keynote) Like Numbers, there's also no PowerPoint export."

http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/entelligence-the-ipad-as-a-productivity-tool/

So you can't open and edit the files you made in iWork (Numbers and Keynote) on the iPad on any Windows PC without having them converted to Excel or Powerpoint on a real Mac with iWork (desktop edition) first.

Flash is terrible, and everyone is going to start going to HTML5 soon anyways. Flash sites always have tons of bugs because people dont program is correctly, plus its a CPU hog and slows everything down.

Spoken like a true apple user, funny how 90% of the computing world doesn't have any problems with flash.

Apple is just once again ahead of the curve. Remember when people laughed at Apple for not putting floppy disk drives in their macs anymore? Less than a year later everyone follow their lead.

Typical apple revisionism, people switched from floppy disk because they were far too small and people were using writable cd's instead of discs.

iPad Simulator

Right now the iPad is just an oversized iPod Touch, but I hope it improves in the future. For now, I'm downloading the iPhone SDK 3.2, so I can use that iPad Simulator everyone is talking about.

P.S. - Has anyone noticed that iPhone OS 3.2 runs only on iPad??? Does anyone have a guess when it will be available for iPhone and iPod Touch? Or will iPhone OS 4.0 have compatibility with all iPhone OS devices?

He should talk like whom, you?
Apple is protecting its BIZZ, you should protect yours (your work) and NOT Adobe by being flexible (It is NOT that Apple does not allow Flash on the Mac, Apple said No video on the iPod, & then What?, Apple said People NO longer Read & then What? iBooks!).
Adobe could gain allot with both FLash and HTML 5, but IT chooses to be lazy.

Why would i use crappy Windows and any PC it comes with just because of Flash?
If Windows were good for me, i'll have switched and end of it.
It works for you but not me.
See, simple. I am protecting my sanity!

And is that a lie?

What do you mean? It doesn't do what she wants yet he should insist she buys it anyway?

Then WHY buy it only for playing that game?
See?

I think she can play with other games
She should make her own mind. herself.
Take her to an Apple store for her to play with it.
It is better.
It could be NOT for her.

iPad is NOT for me ( being broke also do not help, but i'm trying to convince my wife to buy iPad instead of saving for a MacBook pro, she is in college! ).

You're telling someone that they should base what they enjoy on their choice of computer, rather than basing their choice of computer on what they enjoy.

Moreover, if their choice of computer isn't the same as yours, they should change what they enjoy in order to accommodate for your choice? Seriously, what?

And is that a lie?
Apple just took away the choice before other firms. Outside the fashionista world, you don't get to use the latest tech just because it exists - you still have years/decades of work on various media to deal with, from clients in lands foreign and domestic. You also have older machines. The first peripheral I added to my 2006 iMac was a USB floppy drive. It's one of the peripherals I'm still using since I sold my iMac, because, unfortunately, 10 years later, some otherwise good motherboards lack an internal floppy header (the chipset's there, but the few pence on a few pins are saved - thanks for leading the way, Apple!).

How much does Apple pay you, is it by the post or hourly?
I think the only one profiting from an article per minute documenting every little detail, and the resulting explosion of postage, is the owner of Macrumors. But, hey, we're all here voluntarily to have a bit of fun... I assume there's no Apple internship slavery marketing programme, yet... not outside of China, anyway.

What, read again what I wrote.

Why should she buy an iPad only to play that game?
Humans DO not live forever and there ARE plenty of things ( unknown ) out there that can enrich us!
So WHY limit?

She can play that game on a cheeper notebook! -- was my advice.
