Heading out to best buy today and i'm still wondering how the iPad fares with a capacitive digitizer for handwriting.
If my main use for a tablet is taking handwritten notes, would I be better off with a tablet with active digitizer?
Anyone had experience with both that can say how big of a difference this makes?

If you have no objections to Android I would compare the Air to the Samsung Notes.

ipad air

If you were to go the route of an Ipad Air 32gb verizon or att, it comes out to 624.99 on sale. If you activate the ipad through one of those carriers at bestbuy on a two year agreement will get you an additional 100 dollars off. on top of that they are crediting your att or verizon account 100 bill credit as well as waived activation fees. well at least at my bestbuy.

Update: went today and tried writing on the air with a stylus and have to say I was really unimpressed. The samsung galaxy note had far superior writing capabilities, but the android/samsung interface just isn't for me.

So, I ended up not getting anything and probably won't unless Apple ever steps up their game and adds an active digitizer or something on par with the current technology that is out there for handwriting.

Yup, i'm not a huge fan of their interface either. TouchWiz has been toned down considerably and I still don't like it. Which is why I prefer vanilla Android. My biggest problem with the Air is just crappy performance that i'm gambling will be fixed with 7.1

I got a ridiculous deal on my Air, so I don't want to return it.

The note is definitely a contender and it seems like it has the best handwriting capabilities for the price. The one thing holding me back from something non-apple is I do have a lot of money invested into iTunes plus I have a sizable amount of credit still to spend on the iTunes store from gift cards and such.
(those guys at apple know what they're doing haha)

If you're just downloading music, most; if not all of your purchases will work on Android devices. If they're DRM free that is... Now movies/TV shows are a while different issue.

Bought mine yesterday at Bestbuy. Got the iPad Air 32gig in Space Grey with the Apple Smart Case (black leather). With the sale, plus a $30 rewards zone gift card (from the TV I bought last month) i thought it was a great deal!

Loving it so far.

Wife didnt look so happy when I showed up with it though! Haha

iPads on Sale at Best Buy - which should I get?

I PM'd the iPad Air 32gb white Verizon 4g model at Target to Best Buy price for $624.99 plus additional 5% off using Redcard. In CA total was $640. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it because they told me on Ipad returns they only EXCHANGE if opened no refund. That really sucks. They used to refund even if opened. Still deciding what to do.

FYI - not sure if this is everywhere, but at least here in South FL Apple retail stores will match the Best Buy price. I always prefer buying directly from Apple and picked up a 16gb AT&T rMini for $479 today.

Yes to this. The Stanford Shopping Center Apple Store (Palo Alto, CA) price matched Best Buy's $60 off the 128gb Verizon iPad Mini Retina for me earlier this week. All things being equal, I would much rather buy from Apple than Best Buy.

I too did the price match. I don't trust Best Buy nearly as much and I'm not convinced the company will even be around for the length of an extended warranty.

BB dropped the price even more - 16gb Wifi Air now 60$ off. Any chance this indicates touch id ipad coming sooner than fall?

The Air's have the same discount this week. It's possible Best Buy was selling more Air's because of the $25 gap in discount and people usually gravitate to a bigger device as the better deal i.e. more for less is better. LOL

I think closing the gap to $15 discount between both devices may sell more rMini's. That said the iPad 2 still has a $100 discount and the iPad Mini also has the same $20 discount.

I would check at another Target, or their corporate customer service. I don't think they have changed their return policy. I returned a sealed iPad to target for a refund and they opened it anyways to verify it was all there. As long as you are within the 30 days and it is in like new condition, I believe they will refund you your purchase price especially as a Redcard purchase.

Get an open box (usually just a return, not defect) and save even more. Think Apple stores are getting a bit ticked about price matching? :)

The Best Buy I go to discounted open box by $30 off full retail. Not sure what it's like during the current sale.

Think I did rather well.:D Got an certified open box 64GB Air for $450. It was marked $593 then I mentioned that it wasn't that good of a deal since the new ones were on sale. The sales manager agreed and called his boss who dropped the price another $100 and then I added $60 of rewards certs. FYI there isn't a thing wrong with it, looked brand new So I am happy with my deal.:D:D

Point me in the right direction so I can get that deal. Something seems very fishy though to say the least with that price. Maybe the store is flooded with Airs and needs to move them.

Did it turn on when you pressed the button? :)

Keep in mind he mentioned using Reward (MyBestBuy) certificates to drop the price from $493...so really he paid that much. Reward certs are earned, you can't just get em anywhere. So in a since they are same as cash in this instance.

Speaking to a manager on the floor is always the best case when buying open box. They are always motivated to get a sale on the open box merchandise. For example: in Jan, I bought a 16gb 5th gen touch which retail for $229. It was listed for $189 open box. I was dealing with a manager on the floor and didn't even know, when we went to checkout I mentioned the 10% sale on open box items at the time and he did one better, he took another $50 off so after tax I paid $150. I used a 5x points MyBestBuy coupon and ended up earning another $15 back on the purchase. So you see, big deals can be had!

Nothing fishy about the deal at all, this gal scored well in this case. The actual price ended up being $480 tax included and another item. The ipad is cherry in both condition and operation. The only thing that set it apart from a new one was that the cord was wrapped with a tie rather than the plastic sleeve. And no, the store didn't have a lot of Airs to get rid of. They did have 3 minis and 4 (2-16 and 2-32) Airs that were open box with three being certified open box.

Had an iPad 3 and iPad 4, now I have a Retina Mini. And it's exactly what I want a tablet to be, which is book like.

It feels just natural to use and very easy to handle.

Where do they put open box items? My local Best Buy must hide them because I never see any.

It varies but usually in a cage and in the department where the tablets are located. Sometimes right up front by the registers I've noticed in some other stores.

They tend to move the cages around. Check in the computer dept. If all else fails just ask, they even walk you back to where it is. Good luck!

Another thought is to go on to the website and check on store locator. Then select you local BB and click on the clearance and open box items. That gives you an idea of what is available at your store. If you find something then call the store and ask them to double check because sometimes what is listed isn't up to date.
