Didn't Apple estimate about 250,000 iPhones purchased for unlock. Don't know about you, but to me that's a significant number of jailbroken iPhones, and that's not including iPod Touch. Sounds like the only thing "real" about the people you're dealing with is they are "really" lame. :p

Those phones were *purchased* for unlock, and then sold to a very specific customer (a nerd generally, often in a foreign country) who knew what they were getting. In the USA, very very few people are using unlocked iPhones.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but it is 11:50 at night and I was just watching the Pats game and haven't had the time to read all 300-something posts. Does anybody think/know if this will have any effect on the iPod touch (home screen editing mainly) assuming that this is legit?

Giz says it could be released as early as this upcoming week.

@JML
I would assume that they would release a firmware upgrade to include the applications that are not iPhone specific.

Only my 500 customers. But because you demanded it, I'm sure you have proof of yours, right?

While "you" may be a contact for some overseas clients, that doesn't make "you" proof that all unlocked phones are overseas. That comment is almost as silly as the one you made earlier about only 1% of iPhone being sold are hacked, which btw I also proved was wrong.

I don't understand why they haven't posed a picture of the firmware itself in the iphone settings.

Although this does seem very legit, these people are putting up all their established roles in the community, and if it turns out to actually be legit, then grats.

I think it's real.

To be honest, anyone can go into their jailbroken iPod with SSH and change the SystemVersion.plist file so that it reads 1.1.3 but, that's besides the point. Seeing the version does almost nothing.

EDIT: This hint would be great for anyone wanting to show off their iPods that have version 1.1.3 on them.... hehehehe. You could totally fool people for like a minute or two.

See? I've got 1.1.3. Wow, look at me! Isn't that so convincing?

Like I said, anyone could do this and they wouldn't even have to mess with it in Photoshop. I used Photoshop only to block out the serial number.

EDIT: I just made up the build number because I don't know what they're currently using for the 1.1.3 build number so whatever.

That's pretty cool! How long before someone swipes your pic and starts more rumors.

Since I read through all the posts regarding this update, I feel compelled to make some observations:
If this rumor is legit (not willing at this point to bet one way or the other), this seems like a reasonable number of features for a point update.
Multiple SMS recipients i something I need from time to time, so that is nice.
The Google GPS is kinda neat. It'll be fun to play with, but frankly the outcry for GPS confuses me a bit. I don't see the big deal. As a general rule I'm fairly aware of where I am. I can read both a map and street signs so a big 'You are here' marker in Google Maps seems less than a necessity. Maybe in a rural area it would be more helpful, so maybe that is the draw.
Rearranging the home screen? Again kinda cool, but will probably be more important after the SDK.
As to the still MIA features, I think the necessity (or lack thereof) for MMS has been covered sufficiently. Email works fine for me so if MMS never shows I could care less.
Copy and Paste? I'm still trying to figure out a practical application for this in the current state of the iPhone, but I'm sure there must be one.
Finally, why all the outcry for iChat? We have SMS. Some people seem to think mobile iChat would avoid SMS usage, but I don't think that's the case. My last phone was a Samsung Blackjack on AT&T. It had the Yahoo instant messenger installed. I was told by an AT&T rep that messages sent through the IM client count as SMS usage, not data (I saw evidence of this on my bills btw). I therefore have to assume that a mobile version of iChat would work the same way. So in essence a mobile iChat would just be another SMS button. Unnecessary.
That's my $.02. If someone wants to dispute feel free. I'm not sensitive. The (sometimes heated) discussion of all viewpoints is why I keep coming back.

I agreee with the GPS thing, I don't get it myself.

WOW! If IM was implemented in this way it would suck. I'm sure most would assume there is no charge since the iPhone has a data plan. I have unlimited sms so it wouldn't matter to me, but for most that sucks big time.

While I know where I am, my iPhone doesn't. I live in San Diego and was looking for food in Santa Barbara while on a trip Friday. If I could have just hit a button to have the iPhone center in on my location it would have simplified the process of finding a restaurant.

It also prevents me from having to enter a current location for "directions from."

I don't need a specific location just a ballpark for most uses.

I'm anticipating this update.

Navizon does this if you don't mind Jailbreaking your iPhone :)

Primarily for driving instructions. You want to be able to go from where you are to where you want to be - annoying to have to enter both the start and the end of the route when the phone should know where you are.

Give me multiple SMS recipient, forward SMS to another phone, being able to forward contacts like business cards then I'll be a happy camper. iSync via BT would be nice too, funny my old SE phone did this seamlessly yet my Apple iPhone cant.

Generally, when you have a data plan, instant messaging counts towards the data plan because you're sending messages through the IM server.

The sidekick works this way, it sends real IM's, not text messages to the screen name.

This is obviously not exactly how it works, but I think it's a more simplistic way to describe it.

None of these features are iPhone specific, so it seems pretty likely.

Um... I'd say the new "Where Am I?" feature of Google Maps (by way of cell antenna triangulation) is pretty much iPhone specific. As is the "multiparty SMS recipient." :D

All the other stuff is already possible by way of third-party hacks, so a hacked iPod toucher currently has *no* real reason to consider the 1.1.3 upgrade. Here's hopin' there's much more to come. I'm underwhelmed.

I think it is funny these guys are located in a Suburb of Seattle. In fact, I know exactly where these guys live (if indeed the GPS location is true).

I don't know a single person that has not jailbroken their iPod touch. I've met regular people on the internet and in person at stores and even nearby friends of mine have jailbroken iPod touch's. So, who the heck is using an unjailbroken iPod? Maybe it's because I hang out with geeks... I don't know... hehe.

I guess you do because I can say I definitely am NOT a geek and I also have NOT altered my iPod Touch in any way, and I love it :)

"Locate me"

I love how it says it can "pinpoint" your location but only gives you a circle that has like a 2 mile radius.
