Development on multi-container applications... While I'm mostly work in a terminal window (vim), I do work with other dev environments. I can see from a desktop I use, that I could get away with 24GB (if that was an option), but I can safely avoid swap file usage with 32GB.

wait you need 32gbs of ram for that!? I must be doing something wrong then. I run 2-3 Linux vms(each with 512megs with ~320 megs being used but haven’t checked in awhile, will look again for my own curiosity) while running kubernetes locally with 8 pods and I almost touch all 16gbs. Granted I’m running 1 replica of each project and the biggest one is 1gb of ram (those god damn Scala apps :shakes_fist: ). I also mainly work in my terminal (iterm) running tmux with 4-5 windows open with 2 panels per window.

not dismissing your ram usage but I’m wondering what’s different. I do run slack, mail app, calendar, Firefox and Evernote. This is my everyday workflow for work.

since im also a nerd and curious, I would definitely like to compare your ram usage to mine to see what’s different. It could be your replicas are much heavier in terms of ram usage or some app your running that LOVES memory (besides chrome if you are running chrome).

either way, glad to meet a fellow nerd/dev. I’m a dev ops / sre nerd but I will forever consider my self a sysadmin no matter how much code i write and I have built full applications / projects by myself but still enjoy the “ops” side of stuff cause I love hardware and love understanding the kerne and what not but also enjoy writing code. Definitely couldn’t be a full time dev without being able to understand the system / “hardware” I’m working with or having control to change things in the kernel to make my application run better like net stack, file handles, etc.

Anyway I hope the refresh next month gives you a 4-6 core w/ 32gbs. I know intel CPU’s and RAM go hand to and the Core i9-8950HK can handle 64gbs max but the most I’ve seen in a laptop is 32gbs but for obvious reasons like battery life, tdp and of course cooling, the 13” can’t support it but the 15” (I know there’s numerous opinions on this).

i hope for your sake they do what they did with the 11pro and make the new MacBooks slightly thicker so they can add better cooling for the next gen i7/i9s and still deliver what you want and they want. You want power in a small package and they want great battery life, small package, etc.

Third day with my new 11 Pro Max 256gb MG. The silver some of you posted pics of here is striking. My wife is still paying off her 8 over at Verizon so she’ll upgrade in November and will get silver. I’m glad I got midnight green. As others have said, it’s not a dark green as the name implies but more muted. Sometimes it looks greenish, somethings bluish, sometimes gunmetal. I really like it. Love the frosted look and feel of the back and the chrome on the sides. Personally I find the squircle of the 3 rear cameras ugly but it doesn’t stick up too much and I love the cameras. Night mode photography is awesome. Last night I took a pic of my unlit, dark dining room. Wow. Every detail was there on the pic and it didn’t have some of the issues of flash photography. I also like telephoto and wide angle but that night mode really shines. I also use my phone for business and can’t afford a dead battery so I’m used to keeping my phone on the charger in my car and on my nightstand. I therefore can’t tell yet what kind of battery life the 11 Pro Max has but during use I have noticed the battery staying at full charge longer than my XS Max. I didn’t download the beta so it’s my first time using iOS 13. Using this phone with iOS 13 is fantastic. I understand there are many other options. My first cell phone was a mammoth Motorola flip phone. You needed a crane to lift it. Then we went to the tiny phones, and then back to big. I loved my Windows mobile phone until I stood in line behind a guy with an iPhone and noticed that everything he did in 1 step took me 10. My first iPhone was a white 4S and I haven’t looked back since. It’s nice that we have choices and I’m glad I have the choice to try out a new iPhone every year. Have fun everyone and I hope that those of you whose preorders got messed up will have working phones in your hands before long. I’ll hang around here for a while. Thanks for this forum MacRumors.

Well this sucks. Apple's "new" USB-C cable renders all of my USB chargers useless.

Well, I am not upgrading.

Anyone know if Apple sells a STANDARD USB charging lightning cable for the new iPhone 11 Pro Max?

Anyone have a solution?
Use the standard USB to lightning cable which came with all the other iPhones
Xr, Xs X 8 7 6 , you get the idea.......

I'm still lurking in here.

Even though I restored from an iTunes encrypted backup, there were still a few items that I had setup: Bluetooth devices needed to be paired; accounts verified; Apple Pay authorizations.

I am surprised I didn't need to redo FaceID. I did the head scan during the initial setup, which is before restoring. I always thought that data got erased when doing a restore. I didn't need to train "Hey Siri" to recognize my voice either.

It's also great that I didn't need to unpair my Apple Watch from the previous iPhone. The watch buzzed me and asked if I wanted to pair it with the new iPhone. Took a few minutes, but the watch didn't need to be reset like before.

It is a little heavier than my XS Max.

It's only day 2 but I'm liking it.

my watch boinked it’s digits connection on TMobile

doubles paired numbers, then, data on Watch not paired

I like my Spigen Liquid Clear case...looks great and shows off my Midnight Green color.

I have one for my space grey 11 Pro Max when it arrives this week it looks like kind of case I like cannot wait to see my phone in it.

so i was able to find a simfree iphone 11 pro max in store. i bought it for pickup today. can i just ask them to do the transaction on iphone upgrade program as i am already a part of it. i tried iUP while placing order but it said not available for Tmobile!
Apple says you can use IUP with T Mobile.
Is your T Mobile account restricted or you have less than 12 payments left on your current phone?

Weird. For two IUP phones ordered at the same time Fedex says one return box will be here Monday and the other Wednesday.

I like this story better than the person above who “doesn’t trust those drivers”

me too. I had the same driver for years, and he’d recognize me and wave when we’d pass by each other in our vehicles.

I miss my former customer center: the counter rep would always recognize me when I walked in and say, “I saw your package, be right back” without me having to give a tracking number. :)

I like companies and people that work for them with personal customer service like that

Every picture I see of the silver pro makes me regret getting space gray, I love the finish but wish they left the space around the lenses glossy black on all of the models. The white space with the lenses was a deal breaker for me but the rest of silver model is absolutely stunning

I had intended to go Gold this time for my new Pro Max. The too-white gold on the back, especially around the cameras, just wasn't palatable to me.

I like the very subtle green of the almost Space Gray version called Midnight Green. I was concerned it'd be too green, but instead its just a slight variation on my previous favorite.

I got an Apple clear case with it, but really don't like it and will be taking it back. I have used the Apple Leather cases for a number of years. I have yet to find a color in the current Leather case that I really like with the Midnight Green. I will try again next time I'm at the Apple Store.

In the meantime, I'm going nekkid for the first time in a decade! :😁: I like it, but it is a bit scary to think of going out in public like that.
