I’m well aware. I said: Those demo units from this year have gotten way more scratched than demo units from previous years. I was comparing demo units with demo units..

I got that. And who compares demo units versus demo units? It’s a bit bizarre. As I said, you can’t really use a ‘demo units’ in terms of durability. Those phones are intentionally mishandled.

I doubt typical jewelry or anything else on the demo tables have materials that can cause that much severe scratching.

You doubt incorrectly. Think about it, if you have thousands of customers that handle iPhones on a weekly basis, it doesn’t take much to scratch the display or back if somebody’s wearing jewelry. The iPhone is plenty durable, but it goes to an extreme for demo units in retail stores, because others don’t treat it like it’s their own device.

It ain’t so. Who compares demo units with demo units?? Well, I do. I am comparing the conditions between the old models and the new model using the demo units. You can compare things from the past as long as the two things you’re comparing to are the same, yes?

And I aM thinking ’bout it, how can jewelry scratch the display? WhAT kind of jewelry Are we talking about here? I don’t see rings and wrist bracelets scrATCHing the display. Steel, gold, and silver yain’t goin to hurt glass that’s supposed to not scratch on 6, and a glass that Apple oh-so praised to be its toughest yet.

Not everyone is wearing diamond and sapphire riddled around a finger ring or wrist bracelet. Ain’t no one carrying chains that droop down far enough that It gets snagged on the iPhone when you bend over to it, if anything it’ll likely hit the bottom of the display. Like I said, most of the scratches I’ve seen are on the top area.

Smearing it on their demo tables ain’t goin hurt a fly. It’s Apple’s most toughest glass yet, but for some reason their way more scratched up in stores Now than in the past?

Guess if basic jewelry and being mishandled on the demo table is enough to severely scratch the new iPhones in numerous places at once, then the glass is weaker. It shouldn’t be scratching with anything above a 6 in MOhhz. Unless people are going to say sand and debris is the cause, then I guess everyone lately is getting so filthy this year than the year priOr, cuz holy smokes they gotten more scratched up this year. & It’s not like Apple employees wipe and clean down their demo units and demo tables, it’s just filthy people with their filthy hands in this dusty wintery SeAson. Everyone this year is absolutely disgusting. Thank god 2020 is around the corner.

lol....sure, if you have both units in front of you at the same time. But you don’t so pretending you are actually comparing them is just BS.

Using demo units as your base for anything is RETARDED. If we go by that Samsung Galaxy phones would have a massive burn in issue going back to the Samsung Galaxy S2. I’ve used the S2, S3, S4, note 3, note 4, note 8 and none had any burn in. Demo units are abused AF and shouldn’t be used to demonstrate durability of ANY phone.

Well, I’ve had my 11 Pro Max for just about a month now. In my front pocket daily, all day, same as all my previous phones, and not a scratch on the screen. No difference as far as I can see.

So far my glass has remained scratch free, but I don’t expect it to last. Sadly, glass scratching and/or scratches to the oleophobic coating are completely unavoidable if you keep your device unprotected. Even though I look after my toys, it’s still going to pick up a minor scratch for some reason sooner or later.

Until some sort of magical glass, which is significantly tougher is developed, this will never change. We simply cannot prevent scratches to it.

Would be nice if they used sapphire instead, that would definitely reduce the amount of scratches - though unless they dropped the oleophobic coating, you’d still see micro-scratches in that.

It’s never bothered me, screen-wise, I’ve never had more than a few small scratches, which you don’t even notice in use, on any of my iPhones. Their backsides have also held up really well too, especially my iPhone 4/4s. But then, if I know I’m going somewhere hazardous to iPhone health - for example, the beach, or a building site, I pop it in a good case and if necessary, use a screen protector, for those rare occasions.

....... Having said that, back in ye olden days, I was working demo and dropped my, completely unprotected, iPhone 3GS when I was in a cherry picker. It dropped about 30 feet, bouncing off metal, wood, brick and landing on concrete. Amazingly, it had no real damage once I retrieved it, a few more tiny scratches were all that it suffered. I couldn’t believe it. If only they were all that resilient, or if only I were always that lucky :D

Ive had my 11 pro max for 10 months, been pretty care free and no scrathces whatsoever on the screen HOWEVER I did apply a liquid screen protector called Cyrstalusion on it, that supposedly added a microscopically thin glass coating to it. However im skeptical it actually did anything at all because my screen is just as oleophobic as before, Im guessing the coating doesnt stick to oleophobic coatings, just to raw glass, and hence didnt do anything. Im still wondering whether that liquid screen protector worked or not, because I find it wierd ive had 0 scratches at all, even under direct sunlight, with all the reports of it scratching easily. How has other peoples experiences been so far?

My iPhone 11 Pro Max has been case-free and screen protector-less for a year now, and there's not a single scratch on the screen or back glass, anywhere. Not even a little hard-to-see-except-in-bright-light scratch. Nothing. And I don't baby it - I often wipe it clean on my shirt, etc. My iPhone X on the other hand was scratched within hours of me getting it - literally hours.

I don't know if they're using a different kind of glass or whatever, but my experience with this iPhone 11 Pro Max has been great.

Put a good and I emphasize The word good screen protector on it and the screen will not get scratched

thats interesting! Maybe different models use different glass? I have the international version, not the US version, what version do you have?

still hinders the experience. Affects viewing angles and annoys the hell outta me when i want to swip up from the bottom and feel the edge of the screen protector

Not just iphone 11 series, but iphone Xs series also scratched easily. They need to improve the durability of the glass. They emphasize more on drop resistance, but scratches happens more frequently than drops. Hopefully they use gorilla glass victus or some version of it.

I still wonder about this. A few days after the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro were released literally ALL iPhones 11 in my Apple store (Austria) were terribly scratched. Fanboys would argue "the Apple store is a brutal place and people are handling the new iPhones very badly" acting as if an Apple store were some kind of military level desert storm kind of place. Fact is, that the previous models all stood unscratched next to the iPhone 11s..

Meanwhile I have been to other countries, for example China, and I've seen completely un-scratched iPhone 11 Pros too (iPhones without screen protector).

Seems like some models scratch easily, some don't. Probably depends on the factory and the patch they were produced. Good luck!
