Because they are bad in terms of dollar for service or bang for your buck.
Factoring in dollar cost with economies of scale and inflation, I’d wager the cost of a Kilowat hour would be more than thrice the current cost today.

Phones, feature phones and dumb phones, capable of 42.5Kbps (GPRS) or smartphones running EPOC (also at 42.5Kbps up to 386Kbps) - Ericsson R380 (P.I.M and excrutiating 3rd party apps) - smartphone was hundreds of dollars cheaper. This at a time the internet was still heavily in it’s infancy. Commerce was a joke then, yet was just budding. Think prior to Yahoo heydays, further to AltaVista search. Still that device did what the average user wanted and needed atm, technology wise.

On the contrany comparing the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G .. an iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max may seem expensive, especially after 6mths equally on the market - yet that sliding pricing scale is up to Samsung to implement, Apple not to - they all are in the same ballpark. And it’s 11 mths different in launch dates.

I get you though ... everything is relevant and thus the

No they weren't; an Ericsson r380 was about $700 with inflation that would equate to $1057 today. ;)

Like I said in earlier posts, I welcome 5G and so far in my area it is working great. My 5G (and most people's 4G LTE to be fair) is faster than most peoples wired internet, which is wild to me. I have 500/25 internet from Spectrum so my current AT&T 5G, which is obviously Sub-6 GHz 5G (Mid-Band 5G) is not as fast as my internet obviously (however if it reached its top speed it would come close as I believe Sub-6 GHz 5G maximum speed is around 400mbps) but once they get mmWave going it should blow the socks off my current internet.

Edit: Please correct me if I am wrong about Sub-6 GHz 5G maximum speed. Though not on purpose obviously, I would not want to post fake news.

Mind you, I was also using my iPhone as a hotspot for my MBP playing YouTube videos, streaming Apple Music when not watching a YouTube video, and just doing other ordinary tasks.

*Also on a little bit of a side note, has anyone in their area(s) had anyone try to interfere or destroy 5G towers because they think it spreads COVID-19, among a myriad of other diseases they think it can spread, and other issues they think it causes? We had a guy in my area, who is now called the "5G Bandit" going around and messing around with the 5G towers. His goal was to destroy them, but he just knocked some offline for a little while. He did enough damage to one though that it was down for a couple of weeks. I will link to the article, but I imagine he will be facing many more charges than what was listed. I am sure other people on the forum probably would know what they would be but I would have thought something to do with disrupting emergency services and what not because people in my area did report that their cellphones lost total reception because obviously when he took down the 5G it also took down the 4G LTE. Guess what? Was released the same night he got arrested because of New York States' horrible bail reform laws! He should be locked up right now instead of back out there probably plotting more. Crazy people out there!*

On a lighter note, to the forum members whom most are absolutely amazing people who will help another forum member, in many cases a total stranger, when help is needed and are very smart, have a Merry Christmas (or if you do not celebrate Christmas have a Happy Holiday) and a Happy New Year, Godspeed.

having a conversation about the 12 at this point without mentioning the mini is like talking about electric cars and not mentioning Tesla.

I watched the entire series of his dark materials on my mini yesterday without having to charge. The extra size of the 12 is simply a burden. The extra screen size might be a reason some would like it, it as an all in one device the mini is hands down the best. The camera on the pro doesn’t even justify the extra size.
There is no “the best”. It’s the best for you. For me it is too small for an “all in one device”.
Btw the “conversation” was not about the iPhone 12 but iPhone and 5G phone sales until October.
Why you have to justify your mini purchase instead of just being happy with it is beyond me.

To me, this is less important only because you don't really know how many are using it on 5G when there is a small scale.

Most people buy Apple technology that's more than they need though.

I'm a loner then,, I buy it for "exactly" what i need.

Do a test drive from TMobile. They will send you a hotspot you can use for thirty days or up to 30GB, whichever comes first.

Wow, that’s an awesome business move on their part. Thank you for sharing!

If AAPL had priced the 12 @ $699 USD (& the 12 mini @ $599 USD):

1.) 12 goes up by 50%, to 24% market share !

2.) 12 Pro goes up by ~2%, to ~10% market share (due to increased interest in the iPhone 12 family, strictly because of the more-attractive Pricing of the 6.1" iPhone 12; typically called Foot Traffic, but in CY2020, I'll call it On Line Interest).

And Make NO Mistake, Tim Cook knows he OVER-priced the 12 !

The Sales delta between the two models should be in the ~2.5x-3x range !

That's where AAPL maximizes sales.

That's simply based-upon past History, going back 5+ years.

Also, NOT Rocket Science, Common Sense says ONLY so many will ante-up for a $1K USD OR more iPhone !

BTW, if Apple has Priced the iPhone 12 @ $649 USD, they very-likely would have gotten the (desired) 3x Sales delta !

It is my personal opinion that they Priced it the way they did, so that it would Force the Carriers to discount the (two) lower-end (i.e., NON-Pro) models.
Wow you are really smart, you must have a really good job. I mean those numbers you come up with are astounding, where did u get that data, thin air??
