It would be less confusing if the low, mid and high-end models were all updated at the same time. Want the best specs? You know what to buy. But now if you're considering the Air, you think "maybe I should wait to see if the Pro gets updated soon" to make it better than the Air again.
Yeah, the eternal question: buy now or wait until the next release lol. Been there more than a few times ?
But I’d disagree that the 2020 Pro needs an update to be better than the 2020 Air. There are a quite a few advantages to the Pro, but for any given buyer, they may or may not be worth the $150-$200 price increase.

One item not on the chart is RAM. The 2019 Air has 3GB; many speculate that the 2020 will bump that to 4GB. The 2020 iPad Pro has 6GB.
I’m probably not typical; I like the Pro mostly for the four speakers and ProMotion. More RAM, SSD capacities larger than 256GB, FaceID, the wide angle rear camera and the LiDAR sensor aren’t really that important to me.
Also, since I need at least 128GB, that’s $799 on the Pro but on the Air I’d have to go up to 256GB, which is $749, since there’s no 128GB..
