In 2021 Apple might remove charging ports altogether, skipping USB-C and embrace pad-bound wireless charging and show middle finger to computer connectivity.

USB-C is for iPad Pro and MacBook. Apple hasn’t figured out a way to create a massive glass back on iPad yet.
Then they will lose me as an iPhone customer.

Look at the lower left corner of the board, the screw holes on the left, and the inside corner of the L... that's not single layer.

The right side is what single layer looks like.
Yep, you're right. We're fixing the story. We were thrown off by the elongated design more similar to the single layer boards of the past.
Excuse me, I don’t quite see it... Will the logic board be that long? I don’t get it, I can’t visualize it.

Samsung is working on this. Their solid state battery tech looks really promising. 50 days on one charge? Count me in!!
Remember when Apple was exploring the idea of needing to gas up your laptop?

What don't you get? Double layer? See this:

L-shaped boards? See the iPhone 6:

Ok, so this new iPhone 12 logic board will be like a mix between an L shaped board and a double layer one, right? I hope they leave enough room for the battery...

Wow it feels like apple is getting worse and worse at containing leaks. Feels like we've had some new ones everyday lately.

Legitimate question, but what do expect Apple to do that have not already? When you have thousands of employees working at a factory, they Don’t have direct control over everybody’s intentions intentionally leak schematics/hardware/code. There’s nothing Apple can do to fully stop this, they can only slow it down the best they can, but even so, they’re so popular in media, it will never be controlled. It is what is.

USB-C please.
Give us some logic: usb c on Macbook, head phone jack on Macbook, lightning on iPhone, usb c on iPad pro, lightning on iPad...
Come on Apple, you can do it.

Looks like they're finally bringing back some legacy ports to an Apple Device. Many here will be pleased.

It’s possible instead of stopping leaks they are “controlling” them. They get to stoke the fires of interest and leave very little for leakers to talk about. Supposedly Jon Prosser’s source is an Apple employee...

The charging port is not exclusive to computer connectivity. How about charging in your car? How about CarPlay? How about charging practically anywhere you don't have your expensive Apple-exclusive charging pad?

Doing away with the port is unlikely in 2021. Now, 2041, possibly.

How does that compare to the size of the logic board in the iPhone 11? Hard to get context just from the picture.

It's one side of what will be a multi-layer PCB, along with other PCBs. cf here:

It's not much of a leak because it reveals nothing new. Apple has been using multi-layer PCBs for what? two years now already. The only interesting part would be the CPU, and even then what can you see from the outside (unless it has weirdo packaging like the A12X/A12Z...)?

I have an iPhone 8 and have zero idea how its logic board looks like… but now I know how the iPhone 12's logic board is like. That's amazing. 😁

Here you go:
It's still a single level-board, not like the double-decker X/XS/Pro class boards. Look at the iPhone X teardown for an explanation of the double decker boards.

Yeah, I know Apple is using a piecemeal approach to connectivity, but eventually they’ll get it right with our most likely port-less future.

Agreed. I can only think it’s due to more people working from home due to COVID, rather than a general collapse of their secrecy, but will be interesting to see how long it continues once offices reopen.
