I’m a bit late to this conversation so bare with me ..
Size Matters!
According to Apple:
SMALLEST &
THINNEST iPhone in the world... yet very
SLUGGISH in sales. I really thought it would have been a big hit.
The reveal made itself such a big hit though.
If that is accurate, Apple may not make another mini phone.
I’m hoping this is not the case. I do see a conflict of 2 phone models and their target markets by Apple and varying in pricing that may be contributing to the projected US lacklustre sales this report attests to (see below).
I dunno why. all the older people and people who don't wanna spend a grand on a phone are buying them... its just lame they don't have a zoom lens
Here is the issue. The iPhone 12 Mini starts under $100 for both the 64/128GB storage options, so does the iPhone SE 2 (which essentially is an iPhone 8). The issue I have with these two in the product mix is not that they’re too different (home button + LCD vs no home button+ 2 cameras + OLED slightly smaller) is their marketing is terrible!
Where is the marketing of the iPhone 12 Mini beyond the announcement from Apple? Has anyone actually seen video or print ’specifically’ highlighting this model?
Apple needs to continue making smaller phones, but increase the thickness slightly so you can use a bit larger battery.
Not sure how or if at all this translates to cases of similar users but I’ve been wanting a smaller iPhone for years. IP4 was my favorite form factor. Then the time finally comes only for me to discover based on how I use my phone and what I use on it, combined with aging eyes, I bought the Max.
Agreed on smaller phones yet Apple needs to come to a decision of keeping an aging cheaper Series 8 model and calling it a Special Edition - it really should not be in the lineup other than having the cheapest price. Then again keeping older models also in the lineup for sales blurs the choice for a higher end newer smaller phone that nobody sees Apple’s belief in to market it properly!
I'm 54 and the older I get the more I feel I need a bigger phone or phablet size. My eyes are ok but it seems a lot of app makers, etc. still don't make text or response areas big enough.
Age or slightly diminishing vision Doesn’t always need to lead to a bigger phone. There is accessibility, zoom into text as options, but each to their own.
Honestly I don’t think it’s text on the smaller screen that most have chosen to go larger screen it just to see more on the screen. I wonder if Apple has considered iOS to use test spacing more efficiently for this smaller screen. I’m even more curious if users with poorer eyesight if they considered the iPhone SE 2 over the iPhone 12 Mini before going to the larger 12 / 12 Pro /12 Max devices?
Agreed. I would have loved a telephoto lens and a better battery on that phone. I would have gone smaller.
Major things I hope Apple does for the mini model(s) ~ praying for an iPhone 13 Mini / 12s Mini:
Higher Resolution - match the resolution on the smaller Mini model’s 5.8” to match the pro models
(this will help for text and image clarity, especially if font is increased or decreased to allow more to be seen on the screen).
Camera - as some have mentioned telephoto lens may be a better choice than the wide angle.
(I don’t know I’ve not yet had a phone with more than 1 camera; I’m no shutterbug).
Batttery/Battery Life - if not a larger battery (with smaller chipset components), then increased battery life - make all models standard 8hrs phone call or full varied use of 8hrs full day.
^ I already plan on purchasing the 12 Mini soon, potentially twice in 2021 if no update is launched next winter.
Developers - maybe developers Will need to have their apps better scaled for the smaller screen? I’m already noticing Share Sheet issues on my iPhone SE OG where it takes 5+ taps to open up the share sheet yet selections in Safari on the top right-hand corner in that are there is no issue.
Apple needs to heavily market the 12 Mini if it wasn’t it to be successful and kill off the ‘SE‘ lineup. Move everyone to full touch now before it’s agonizingly too late.
