I still see reverse charging from a phone as something with extremely limited utility. The phone doesn’t have oodles of excess charge to hand over.
but you could charge the iphone and either pods or watch with one cable.

That would be useful, esp. when traveling. I wonder how much of an impact it would have on the longevity of the battery if used regularly. Could be a great way to charge stuff with one cable though

Why can’t the AirPods case also charge the iPhone? What good are 100% AirPods with a dead iPhone? I say this only partially sarcastically. What better device to charge iPhones than an AirPods case. No one carries AirPods without the case.

Of course Apple won't make it backwards compatible with older Airpods...

And those who don't think this is useful probably don't travel much (although that is just about everyone these days)

I’m one of the few people who already saw some benefit to MagSafe and I have to say the idea of using it to secure devices for piggyback charging is even better. I don’t see why people get so upset about having the choice to use something. If you think it uses too much battery... don’t use it. But if you have your AirPods on the train and they die and you have an hour till you get home and your phone was charging at your desk at work and is basically full... why not give your AirPods a boost? And without them sliding all over the place. And if you don’t want to do that, no one will punish you.

This is not a really good example. AirPods have their own backup battery in their case.

This seem like tech for the sake of tech. Like foldable screens. It doesn't bring anything new or better in terms of user experience.

What’s the betting the hole in the back of the MagSafe wallet is for a small airtag to be inserted? Battery may only last a few days being so small but if it is charged whenever attached it wouldn’t matter.

Would explain why the wallet is not available yet. And would explain why there is a strange hole on the back of it.

Also explains why the wallet falls off so easily—so you have to buy an AirTag to find it.

They thought of everything!

Maybe Apple is working on a MagSafe Battery attachment (to replace the battery cases) similar concept to the wallet, and you will be able to charge it from the iPhones lightning port, in addition to MagSafe and Qi.

Hole? Are you talking about the spot to remove cards and not stretch the wallet?

I guess it's possible, but it rather looks like a feature pulled at the last minute because of substandard performance. Apple has been known to make these last minute call even in production hardware.

The way those MagSafe wallets fall off, they will need an air tag. It’s all part of Apples’ plan for the environment though.

Apple will not enable it. If they haven’t announced it as “coming soon” then they won’t throw a surprise and add it later. iPhones have long included hardware that is not fully activated.

This is actually a perfect example. I don't always remember to charge my AirPods case and have found myself on occasion wanting to recharge my AirPods all to find out that my case is dead and I'm SOL.

its really not imo. Set up the device as new or try another. It's been great for me.

Battery life on the iPhone is pretty good, Apple does an amazing job in optimising everything and give a good user experience even with small batteries.
Reverse charging cannot be optimised though. An external device will suck the same amount of mAh, so the smaller the battery the more percentage of the battery is consumed by that.
Could be nice to have, but especially on a phone like the Mini charging an external device could take a big hit on battery life.
