They have different life’s than yours.
Btw everything needs to be charged when you’re out. But maybe before you leave you want to give an airtag or AirPod a quick boost.
I know people have different lives, that’s why I asked for a description.

If this is supposed to be a Tile replacement then it’s not the sort of device you give a “quick boost” to. A Tile battery lasts year. If it’s rechargeable then you recharge it a few days (or even weeks) before it’s going to run out, you should never need to give it a “quick boost”. It sounds like we’re envisaging a different product.

Well, as you mention AirTags would only require infrequent charging and probably not for very long. The easiest way to charge these would be just to snap one on the back your iPhone for a short time, which at the same time would pair it, I imagine.

The easier it is to put these to use, the more of them you would get out and about and the better coverage you would see for tracking. And since you don't need a separate charger or batteries, it would be incredibly easy to ensure they are charged.

I imagine, they would use a combination of Bluetooth and the U1 UWB-chip for more precise location. They could perhaps also feature an accelerometer for other use cases like fitness. This could also correspond well with the upcoming Apple Fitness+ service that will be launching soon.

I can see how that would be handy, though not necessarily handier than just shoving them on one of the wireless chargers sitting around the house (I’m envisaging a future where these have become commonplace). Handy, but not big enough deal to be the driving force behind this feature as people are suggesting.

I think people topping up their AirPods is probably higher up Apple’s list of use-cases, especially now that they‘re no longer shipping wired EarPods with new iPhones.

C’mon guys, reverse charging is a gimmick. There’s absolutely no practical use in real life. At least not with today’s phone battery standards.
Nice to have when you need it but yes many will never use it... I don't on my fold 2 either

One good use case for this kind of thing, for me, would be if the phone could charge the watch while being plugged in and charging.

The problem is, I don’t think the current generation watches will ever be chargeable without the watch puck.

a feature nobody needs and nobody uses. Only to increment features count by 1
Put your phone on the charging pad and then put your watch or AirPods or whatever on the phone. Or plug your phone in and put the accessory on your phone.

Travelling with fewer cables or pads is great.

When I travel I take a windows laptop plus charger, ethernet cable and assorted side gear. My iphone, and ipad. At least two usb-a to lightning port cables. One 12w power brick, one 5w power brick. An extra cable or two in a small sandwich baggie is not big deal. I also usually carry my s/o's power cables for laptop, brick etc.
