Wondering if anyone is having issues with their connection dropping on Verizon with their iPhone 12? Granted I’ve only had my 12 Pro for a day but I’ve noticed that the signal will completely cut out and go to no signal. If I toggle airplane mode it fixes it. I’m figuring it could be an issue with the phone trying switch to 5g. Messing around with the 5g settings didn’t seem to do much. No idea if this is software, hardware or carrier related.

Also see:
^^Not my post but explains the issue exactly.

I’m having this same issue and Verizon was no help to me. For me it seems to be the fact that in some areas the LTE signal is week and where it would normally go to 3G it just has no service now. Then it takes forever to connect back to LTE. Is 3G service working for anyone?

Oh no, I feel your pain. I had this happen to me back in 2018 with the XS Max. So far my 12 Pro has great connectivity - ATT with same old SIM card.

Same here. It seems to struggle to switch back and forth. In many areas. And when it tries. And I am in the middle of doing something. Like streaming music, movies etc.. The service just completely stops. And I get the pinwheel. And eventually the service comes back up. But it is frustrating.

Same here. Switched to eSim. And so far, so good. Not in 5g area so not sure what eSim will be like in a 5g area, but at least I’m keeping connectivity so far since switch.

+1 Same issue. I was on beta. Reverted to 14.1. Reset network settings and set up phone as new. All same thing. Brutal!

UPDATE: I’m in the Boston suburbs with average to excellent signal. I turned off “Data Roaming” but left “5G On”. I’m at home now and at least I haven’t lost signal completely. Worth a try to see how others fair.

Just to follow up. I contacted Verizon first and said that it was on Apple’s end. Talked to Apple Support via iMessage and was told that this is a known issue and engineering is looking into it. But who knows when this will be fixed... No idea if this is a carrier update or needs to be remedied as an IOS update.

Verizon told me the same thing and after talking with a senior advisor at Apple who spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me he seemed to think it was a Verizon issue and that a carrier update needed to happen. He still said he would pass it along to their engineers in case there was an issue on their end. Hope your rep was right and they are actually looking into it

No signal issues here. LTE is faster than 5G where I am though.

Might try having Verizon replace your SIM for you though depending on how old it is.

Edit: Ended up having signal issues after all and ultimately returned the device. Intermittent signal drops in my basement, resulting in missed calls and texts. Never had any issues like this with previous devices.

SIM isn’t the issue, currently using the new one that came preinstalled with the phone. The issue arises when driving/moving quickly and going between areas with weak LTE. At least that’s how I can replicate it.

Sounds like the XS story all over again. There it got partially resolved with new Carrier Firmware and iOS updates after a few weeks. What remained was that the Intel modem in general had weaker reception. I hope this has been remedied with the switch to Qualcomm on the iPhone 12.

Both my wife's and my iPhone 12's have the same issue. Our voice connections are like finger nails on a chalk board. Apple says its on Verizons end but Im thinking the voice connections are on apples end. The mic picks up the background noise of conversations and presents it louder then the person your speaking with. Almost like while on speaker phone but your phone is at the end of a hallway with a few people speaking in between. We've both reinstalled iOS 14.1, per Apple support, and started from scratch with the same results.

having the same issue on my verizon iphone 12 pro. noticed while driving home from work today. not in a 5g area. i haven’t even seen this phone go to 3g. just LTE to nothing then no service. My first thought was it’s not gracefully handling switching towers. hopefully it’s a minor fix.

Agree it's not the sim, but its also not dedicated to moving. My wife and I have dropped almost every call since getting the 12 yesterday almost all while sitting in our living room. also we both are not getting all text messages sent to us. nothing fixes it. Wifi calling, LTE only, 5G only or auto. reseting. have tried everything. was on the phone with tier 2 at apple for hours. the took screen shots and even seen calls fail after 2 minutes for themselves while screen sharing. ultimately we have a call set up for Tuesday and they want me to follow up with Verizon, not looking forward to that. frustrated! Set up a return but would rather it get fixed. This consumed my entire day

Yeah actually since last night I noticed the signal drop twice while sitting at home with decent service, it reconnected fairly quick though (Still shouldn’t drop like it is). While driving it seems like it just didn’t even bother and was more noticeable.

Also Apple told me engineers are aware of the issue and are looking into it when I contacted them. When I spoke to a Verizon tech agent then shot me down pretty quickly and said it was on Apple. I just wish there was a way to get more information on what is going on.

This seems to be a pretty significant issue. I’m hoping that once next week hits this gains more visibility as more people leave the house to some extent. The issue is more noticeable that way.

This must be location related. 5G and 4G signals are strong, voice call calls are clear here in Maryland.

These are typical launch week issues paired with Verizon opening their 5G network and getting overwhelmed.

I am receiving my SIM free 12 Pro next week. I ordered a 5G SIM from Verizon to place in the 12 as they said the old SIM may not support all new features going forward.

i will activate the 12 with the old SIM from my XS and then later, when this chaos has passed, I will switch to the new SIM.

I live about a mile from a low tower. I have lived here for 14 years with iPhone's 4,5,6,7 and xs max and although Im on the edge of good bad cell signal, never dropped calls or missed texts with any other iPhone until now. On the 12 I'm showing an average of 2 bars in my house, yet my and I have dropped 50% of our calls and missed random group text messages that have an android user in the group which means it must go over cell signal. I took a walk and talked on the phone with 2 bars while walking when I turned around and walked back the same route not talking on phone lost service completely in an area I just used the phone in with no issue. reset network setting to regain service, but it may have done it automatically if I let it. My wife and I have had these issue in our house but my son in law who live directly under the aforementioned tower who got the 12 pro the same day as us said his was working perfectly. he came to visit last night and also had 2 bars in our house. While here my daughter (Android user) sent us a group text. my wife and I got it but my son in law never received it. We were all in the same room. We all have Verizon as well. To me this looks like a signal issue where it functions poorly on weaker signals that other phones and previous models worked fine at, like others have said I guess it could be a similar issue where its bouncing between towers if its not a strong secure signal. I really like the design of this phone I hope they figure it out and don't deny the problem for a while, We have only a 2 week return window.

It's happened to me at home now a couple times today. It simply doesn't reconnect after it goes to zero bars until i manually toggle airplane mode.

Another note, looking around on some other Reddit threads popping up. Users on AT&T are reporting similar issues. Also on a couple iOS threads here, users with older iPhones that upgraded to iOS 14 were reporting the same.

I am also experiencing the same issue with my Verizon iPhone 12. Tried resetting network settings and getting a new SIM from Verizon, to no avail. Goes down a handful of times a day, and like everyone else, it's most noticeable when driving around. Never had coverage issues in my area (southern CT). Thinking it's most likely a software glitch
