Sad to see most of y’all are still having service issues. No way it’s the phones, it’s the service in the area YOU live. For me it was Verizon that was weak and ATT is strong, I’m getting 5Ge in a lot of places Verizon wasn’t getting any service. Now you drive 100 miles and the roles might be reversed. Check your carriers, switch to a stronger provider in your area if you can. Marginal service is a thing and I was lucky enough to get out of mine.
Nope. My work 6S on Verizon is slower and less reliable than my 12 Pro on Verizon.

I’ve proven it to apple engineering running tests with the phones side by side. Still no resolution.

Update: This issue is pretty much resolved for me. Currently on iOS 14.6 on a launch day iPhone 12.

I’ve seen maybe one signal glitch in the last week. Even switched WiFi Calling back on (leaving it off has been my workaround) and it has been stable.

Still on Verizon. Was considering AT&T but seeing that things have stabilized, and it would cost more money to be on an AT&T plan, I’m hanging in on Verizon for now.

My phone is back to showing signal, 5G and no service. Not as often as before though. Not sure if all the blame should be on Verizon though.

Had my phone checked at Apple, they say everything is fine on the phone. Today I’m working in a basement and no service, my sons iphone 11 had service and could make calls.
is the 12 pro max a step backwards in reception ?

My experience has been the opposite. I couldn’t use my iPhone 11 Pro Max in my own home, but now my iPhone 12 Pro works great at home. Both on AT&T.

I’ve about had it with it, just need to find a replacement device

Another update. Issues started rearing its ugly head with Verizon a few weeks after this update. I decided enough was enough.

Switched to AT&T a several days ago, and have noticed rock solid signal since. If anything changes, I’ll let you guys know.

I too switched to ATT and at first it was way better but now in my home it is the same dreadful signal as Verizon. Proof that the phone is the issue not the service provider. Incredible that Apple can get away with putting out such an expensive device that doesn't do the simplest of tasks. MAKE A CALL!

It have to be something with your device then. I’ve had my 12 Pro Max since launch and I don’t have any issues with connectivity. I have better connectivity since upgrading my XS Max to the Pro Max, on Verizon.

I’ve had no problems with connectivity with my iPhone 12 Pro on ATT. I am in NH so no need for 5G. I am using my old SIM from my 6s.

Same experience here with Verizon on my 12 pro max. Also a launch day device and no connection problems.
I think location has a lot to do with this issue. If you live in an area where you can go from good to bad service the phone struggles to get signal. I can be in a good area, go in the basement lose signal and when I come back up the phone can’t regain service. Guy that works for me has an 11 and doesn’t have this issue and we are both on Verizon

Absolutely agree. It seems it low service areas the phone has no idea what to do. My X never once had any of these signal issues. For people telling me its the specific phone, I've replaced it 3 times with Verizon and another new phone when I Switched with Att&t.

It’s the phone, but could be software or hardware though. I’m better hardware, if it was software it would be solved by now.

I work 12 hour night shifts and during my shift I use my phones hotspot to watch movies, Netflix etc on my laptop, with my iPhone I'd lose connection around 12 times per 12 hour shift or if I didn't lose connection the connection was barely there so at least 12 times per shift I'd have to switch my phone off then back on and it would work fine for a little while finally enough was enough and I sold.it and got a Samsung S21 + and I've had no such issues, my office at work is only about 200 metres from the cell tower so signal strength isn't a problem, using Ookla I'd get just over 100mbps so signal was great it's just the iPhone 12 pro plus couldn't hold onto it, I also tried an iPhone 12 and that was pretty much the same so I got the Samsung.....I'm not a fan of Samsung's so I'll be scrutinizing these forums after the next iPhone is released and hoping the connection issues are resolved in which case I'll be coming back to iPhone but I can't imagine a new phone will be any different to a previous model as they all get updated with the same software and yes they may get newer aerials BUT my last iPhone demonstrated when it was connected it received signals at over 100mbps so getting a signal isn't a problem it's holding onto it continuously.

Don't hold your breath.
Every model of iPhone ever made on every version of iOS ever made has the same miserable hotspot performance as you witnessed. It's an intentional design probably to prevent dumb dumbs from maxing out their limited monthly cell plan accidentally.

An iPhone will always time out and disconnect when acting as a hotspot for another iOS device if that tethered device is non active for even a moment. It won't disconnect while you're streaming a movie but the second you stop it and pause for a bit - disconnect.

If you tether an Android phone to the iPhone hotspot, the connection will stay live continuously for your other iOS devices whether you're using them or not. The android device prevents disconnecting.
I used to tether my old Samsung S7 to my iPhone to keep it alive so my Mac wouldn't get disconnected all the time.

That's a bummer looks like I'm stuck with Android then, the laptop I use is windows and seems a perfect pairing with the Samsung mobile I just prefer iPhone BUT it's frustrating to say the least having to keep rebooting a phone, what a shame when iPhone excels in so many other ways.

T'was certain I would move back to Apple with the upcoming IP13PM - but, Yerp. I'm sticking with my Pixel 4a5g whilst sipping a cold one in the Winchester until this all blows over!🤠
