Sounds similar to using a lightning dock. Unless the dock is affixed to the tabletop/desktop, you'll pull the dock up with your iPhone. I'd say this charger is meant for people who would like another way to charge their phones while using it & easily disconnect when getting up.

Wireless charging pads aren't all that bad; you get confirmation of successful alignment via screen & chime. With MagSafe, you'd still have to get close enough to feel the magnets attract each other.

Someday we'll have Tony Stark tech that'll summon our device from anywhere to its charging station...
iPhone 3000? See what I did there. 😉

Until then, some will find spending $40 or $60 ($20 adapter sold separately) for the "attractive" assist worth it. 🧲
For others, a slight finger-nudge isn't that big of an inconvenience. 👉🏼
You still get the little "bong" sound when connecting to the MagSafe. It's not JUST the magnets.

Hmmm, rather like the graphite. May have to forgo silver, as it's gonna be pretty flashy... I just like the bare stainless so I can avoid worrying about scratching through the PVD.

I don’t think I like these flat edges. I have a feeling it will be uncomfortable to hold the phone in your hand for a long time. A case might mitigate that in a way though. Frankly speaking, there’s nothing groundbreaking about that design decision either. They’re recycling the same idea from a decade ago. On top of that there’s the notch that hasn’t changed a single bit. It’s like the iPhone 4 meets the iPhone X. Both phones are outdated now design wise.

Agree there's nothing groundbreaking about them, but I mean, how much more can you innovate a screen?

Two handed operation for magsafe. no thanks. I don’t want to hold something else down while taking the phone Off. I’ll still use the normal wireless charging because it doesn’t feel like I have to do anything.
only thing I want is that belkin magnetic holder for the car.

It really comes down to the light source.

Keep in mind the Pro series colors are all semi-metallic, so colors will vary depending on the light.

That's the color I am ordering on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Looks stunning.

It's actually really easy to detach the iPhone from the MagSafe charger with one hand (tested with the iPhone 12 Pro case). As you pick up your iPhone, just use a finger to slide the charger off the iPhone.

Wow, the blue 12 looks stunning in this photo, something seems off with the blue in this video.

Gma video and current picture look way darker than the most recent video shown today. 🤔

Mirror like sides are too much for me. I prefer the matte finish.
I lament the fact that you can either get a matte back with a glossy edge (Pro) or vice versa (non-Pro), but not matte for both. It’s bad enough that the front has to be glossy.

I wonder if Apple has reached the final form of iPhone designs for a while with MagSafe. Every year we all have to buy new cases and accessories. I would buy more cases if I knew they had a self life longer than a year. It would be good for the environment as well.
MagSafe will go away or change again at some point, nothing is forever. I expect it to stay for at least three years though.

Tens of millions of iPhones leaving China factories this week. You don't think it's possible someone opened one?
Not my point at all—rather to point out that the front page says “LOOK UNBOXING” without any citation of where it comes from / why it’s trusted. If the lead had instead been “This looks real, but we’re not sure” I’d have no beef. But to publish an unattributed / un-vetted source with the same confidence/authority as given to an established journalist or YouTuber is bad hygiene. It’s “My uncle works at Nintendo and said ... ” syndrome. It’s fine to show this kind of stuff, just should have been framed as “this is cool, sure hope it’s real”—or even “we know it’s real because the serial (or whatever) is showing”. But sharing without citation or editorializing is bad hygiene, that’s all.

MagSafe sounds annoying when trying to grab the phone off the charger. Wont it just lift the base up too? Is there Velcro or something? Seems like it’s solving a non existent problem.
It’s not a problem. The accessory was made to attach magnetically and be detached with one or two hands. Now where did it say that it was meant to just come off easily. That’s why it’s an accessory made for what it is. It’s on the sales floor. If it fits your needs and you want it, there it is. If it doesn’t, then you take a look at the other accessories and hope one fits your needs.

Not everything is made for everyone’s needs fully.

Actually, looking at the 4/5 series, it appears the new "flat edge" doesn't have the beveled metal edges which would feel sharp at times, but a more organic round lip so I think it'll feel pretty comfortable for holding for long periods.

LOL the old "if you dont like it, just dont buy it" argument. A classic chestnut.

Nicely done focusing on the trees - now heres the forest:

Why are spending time and resources of the most talented engineering team on the planet solving non-existant problems?

3D touch - same thing - not a real problem. Took massive amounts of engineering resources to pull off. Waste.

It's a shame Apple isn't focusing more on problems to solve. Like..how about creating a battery that lasts 10 days? Get your guys on that.

Shame or not, if you want it, invent it yourself. If not, then wait until someone does and comes out with it. Anyone can spend their own money however they please. Wasted money or not.

Does anybody have discoloration on their iPhone 11 Pro's steel band (other than the silver model)?

This graphite looks nice but it will become ugly in a few months.
