Because the sheep mantra applies? Buy everything with a fruit logo on it?

McDonalds sells the most burgers too, they are far from the best. Sales doesnt equate to quality. You can part enough people from their money is all it proves.

Apple doesn’t sell most phones, yet they earn most money. Little bit of intellect is required to do this. If anyone could do this this then anyone would. Goodbye.

It is funny reading the top comments about iPhone 12 being only 5G and Camera.

iPhone 12 is about a new ( or Old / Classic ) Design . Something different than the iPhone 6 to iPhone 11.

That alone is enough to move units.

Heck I am willing to bet even if Apple put iPhone 11 Spec inside the new Design people will still buy it.

I also honestly dont believe this issues are still being debated. They can afford to sell less iPhone and blame it on pandemic, if they do sell less unit because of 120Hz Display. ( Which I highly doubt ) Let alone the current economic climate Apple cant raise much price to fit their margin. mmWave, 5G Qualcomm Modem alone would have pushed up its BOM.

It's late August - any decision was made months ago, with initial design decisions having been finalized 13 months ago.

The device is already being manufactured.

How does this pass any logic filter? If any of this was being debated, or having difficulties, it would have been during DVT or some other earlier stage.

The truth: These people don't know and so they are hedging their bets with these fake leaks

Exactly..... Which is why I am pissed when I see people continue to quote John Prosser and this new analyst Ross. I dont mind quoting them when it make sense.... but most of the time they dont.

Once a reputable site decide to quote the, for instance MR, other site will copy, and it spread like a virus.

It is the end of August, I doubt they haven't decided what display to use yet unless the phones are shipping in December. If they're only a few weeks later than usual, as suggested by Apple itself, all the decisions have been made a while ago.
To me, 120Hz would be a compelling reason to upgrade to the Pro model. I don't care about 5G, not yet, so the only significant upgrade over my Xs would be a better display.

But whose fault is that othe than Apple's?

As I posted earlier, Galaxy S20+ is 4mm narrower, 4mm taller than a 11 Pro Max; lets call it roughly the same volume of internal space (roughly). 4500mah battery.

11 Pro Max 3969mah now, respectable. But WHY drop it to 3600mah (whatever the exact rumored spec is)???? Whose choice was that?

Clearly Samsung can engineer in high refresh and a big battery all with 5G. And released 6 months ago almost.

So a company worth $2 trillion cant?

i mean look, Ive owned every iPhone since the 3GS (minus one S year, the 4S or 5S didnt upgrade) but a 🐑 is a 🐑 is a 🐑 There is simply no defending it here why Apple is falling behind so badly rehashing the same phones (other than profits, hence the market cap).

I couldnt name 1 regular world person (not a dev/coder) who thinks LIDAR is useful but you have to pay for it. Apple keeps pushing this AR train that simply isnt leaving the station.

5G is arguably useless right now as well; in another 2-3-4 years yes. I get that's a spec they have to include on their sheet though. But for now the 5G isnt worth the per device cost right now if its really $75-125 as reported. Although curious how mid-range phones can include 90-120hz and 5g just fine with a big battery for 1/2-2/3 the price. Clearly Apple is more concerned about profits though, which me the average consumer, couldnt care less about.
Best eye opener i’ve ever seen, Samsung can put 120Hz and larger batteries while Apple can’t put 120Hz and even degrading the battery quality, Apple is clearly after their profit and not the product quality anymore :-(((

Because we all know Steve was all about the “throw random features in there even if they make no difference to the final product” school of business.

Because Steve randomly invented the iPod or even this iPhone and resurrected Apple, I miss him.

It’s not gonna be a dubious feature when your friends 500$ android makes your iphone 12 pro max look ancient by simply scrolling down a webpage..
Apple has never designed iPhones to try to impress spec sheet chasers or android nerds. They’re likely a fraction of a percent of iPhone customers, but whatever the actual number, Apple doesn’t bother chasing them.

If it's hardware, that decision was made before spring and the spec has been final all summer - I'd prepare for a 60hz display. Production in the factory is already running if they're launching in the Fall. You can do last minute (even last hour) software... hardware is always decided months before.

Perhaps they're thinking of delaying until the holidays? 🤷🏻‍♂️

As someone who has never used a 120Hz screen, I'm not particularly interested in this upgrade. Consider higher refresh rates drains the battery much faster, I don't see why I'd need it.

As some on who has (iPad Pro, LG C9 OLED TV paired with a gaming PC @ 120Hz G-sync), I simply refuse to buy anything new and expensive with an outdated, crappy 60Hz refresh rate screen.

Have you? Because there's not much of a difference. I own an iPad pro with promotion display and I don't notice much of a difference between scrolling on my ipad and my phone. The only place where I really notice that the ipad has a higher refresh rate is by how smooth and how fast my apple pencil drawings appear on the screen but that's probably the only use case where I can really notice it.

I'm going to assume you're mainly watching youtubers/reviewers such as MKBHD that really don't go in-depth in the use cases and are just showing a slow-motion video of them scrolling through their settings window, ofcourse you're going to notice the extra frames when you slow it down. All I've ever heard them say is "look how fast I can scroll through my settings when I slow this clip down to 25%".

I have. I've tested Galaxy Note 20 ultra, and I noticed a difference in scrolling compared to my iPhone X.

“Young’s analysis today was largely corroborated by Jon Prosser.”

Pffffttttt... Why don’t we also ask Yogi Bear to chime in as well?
For all we know, Prosser’s sources could have been the same Young himself and repeating it faster than anyone.

I have enough of that dude. I would be inclined to not give him any more microphone time unless he nails something quite unheard of.

I'm still trying to figure out the use case for high refresh phones. At first it made sense, considering the use cases were a more fluid motion for the pencil and iPad Pro and gaming phones. Now they are just being thrown on phones for the sake of smoother scrolling?

Its about a smoother experience. Its being put on phones as its moving tech forward with a far smoother experience on a day to day use of the phone.

Why would you want to spend money on a high end phone and settle for slower experience when doing day to day tasks. You wouldn't

Who knows we may get 144hz next

To me you’ve gotta admit Apple are years behind the other brands with their software with their phones it’s all about profits why do you think they’re worth over $2 trillion now because all the Apple fan people just keep buying their crappy products year after year because I’ve gotta have the latest the phone. It needs no notch If the others can do it why can’t apple plus 120 Hz refresh rate Longer battery life charging on the back of the phone far better cameras come on it’s been 12 megapixel for the last five years plus 5G as we have great coverage in Australia Longer battery life we wouldn’t have this situation if it wasn’t for Steve passing away if you knew what was happening he turn over in his grave Tims all about money and shareholders. He doesn’t really care about the product cares about the profit that’s why we’re losing earphones and charges you getting less than paying more people continue did buy them because we’re all sheep.

Because 60hz is very outdated and when you are use to 120hz devices you simply can't go back to 60hz. For me its too noticeable

If you are spending 700-800 you get over it but 1k cost? Sorry but no you are getting ripped off settling for 60hz

In reply to all of these generally- yes! That is the point, value proposition. When others can do it and for less (other than the Note, although still in the PRo Max price range) then its taking advantage of people.

May not like tech Youtubers, but as MKBHD correctly has said, good phones are getting cheap and cheap phones are getting good. Spending $1000+ for not all of the features is a ripoff these days.

It's also about pushing innovation and tech forward in a general sense, not resting on your laurels because you can get enough suckers to buy the next minor iteration based on brand reputation

Apple doesn’t sell most phones, yet they earn most money. Little bit of intellect is required to do this. If anyone could do this this then anyone would. Goodbye.

If you want to be one of the sheep that is your choice to be and keep handing Apple your hard-earned thousands. Everyone is free to make their own choices.

But again, separating people from their money is not a commendable skill from a consumer standpoint. Unless your last name is Cook, Ives, Cue, Federighi, etc. then you have ZERO to gain from boasting about Apple's monetary performance as a customer. Sales figures, profits or units, literally mean ZERO to the consumer.

Marketing skills are FAR from tech innovation being discussed. A GOOD majority of people are far less educated than you believe them to be. Maybe that is starting to hit people in recent years with world events. Having great marketing skills to convince a bunch of morons to give you all of their dollars, even dollars they dont have, has literally nothing to do with the topic at hand.

They're a great marketer, that would be hard to deny. But then why even bother spending money on new tech or pushing it forward? It's all about extracting the dollars at that point if you can do it with minimal effort.

It's not hard for Apple to sell anything because of social and class stigmas; it doesnt mean its right to do to people and then boast how much profit they made. So Timmy can buy another airplane or yacht with his $278 million just cashed out in stock.

That means literally zero to if Apple is pushing the line forward in technology or not along with the other manufacturers. Which is what EVERY consumer of every brand should be rooting for- competition and everyone trying to one up each other. That gets the consumer, us, a better product.

Owning a Razer Phone 2, the novelty of the refresh rate wore off after a few minutes. Awesome with games that supported it but outside of that, nothing but a visual benefit at the cost of increased battery drain, unless you turn it off. If that is the case and until more games support that high framerate, what's the use?

For me, I just saw it as smoother scrolling on the home page and browser but going back to 60hz didn't kill the experience at all (and my battery thanked me). It's not like going from gaming on 144hz (and maxing those frames) down to 60hz. But at the end of the day, I guess it is different strokes for different folks.

This is THE reason I would get it, I hope they are listening. I'd rather have a delay than to miss out on the feature for the whole rest of the year.

What features will the 12 even have then?

Get it right and delay the release.
Many features example.. 5G and new design with better connectivity, better cameras with LiDAR scanner, better display, reverse wireless charing, faster charging speeds, better stereo speakers, more screen sizes from 5,4" to 6,7", A14 chip and all that with lower price point. I think many people will upgrade.

  • 5G which many people can't use yet
  • New design doesn't guarantee better connectivity (cough cough iPhone 4 antennagate)
  • better cameras but not if you already have an 11
  • LIDAR is worthless
  • no rumors have pointed out display improvements
  • reverse wireless charging has not been rumored either. (the rumored magnets are believed to assist with wireless charging but no signs of reverse wireless yet)
  • No rumors of faster charger speeds either. There was a rumor of Android phones getting faster chargers tho
  • Have not seen any rumors of better stereo speakers
  • More screen sizes will be nice
  • A14 chip will be nice but the A13 is already a great chip. Kinda pointless on a phone that throttles
  • No rumors of lower price point.
You literally made half of that up. Guess we'll have to wait and see

I wonder who would update only for 120, lol.

Apple can do whatever. That feature is not a deal breaker anyway. Any update over 11 Pro will be minimal anyway so these are more for people who have older devices.

Any update for the iPhone this year will be minimal anyway. I don't see why phones laughed 2 years ago have a periscope zoom (5x), but Apple is supposedly waiting until 2022 supposedly. That's 4 years after many others have started introducing it. Zoom on the 11 Pro Max is terrible once it starts using digital zoom—and is quite frustrating for me, since I take a lot of pictures outdoors, where zoom would be handy.

-5G (doesn't impact most of the country, or really the world this year)
-Better connectivity has yet to be proven. My call quality and data connectivity hasn't improved much in probably 4 years, and three phones.
-Better cameras, is MAYBE a 3x zoom, when most other expensive flagships are doing 5x, and some 10x optical zoom
-5W (original apple brick) charging speeds for reverse wireless
-Faster charging speeds (going from 18W to 20W will change what, 5-10 minutes?)
-Who uses phone speakers as a selling point?
-Screen size is actually a smart move here
-I honestly don't see a reason for more speed. My 11 Pro Max is fast enough, but constantly reloads apps, so more RAM would be more helpful.
-The "lower price point" is skeptical, as several rumors now suggest with delays that they may be more expensive.
