Smart move is looking for issues while the phone is new so you can return/exchange it if need be.

It's a $1620 USD minimum iphone in India, you better get perfection for that price.
Yes.. perhaps the policies are different in India. They will not replace easily.

Similar issue iPhone 12 pro India. Most of the iPhone 12 are having gaps in a different location. In India, we are paying a very high price compared to other countries still these types of issues are there.

I think this is much ado about nothing. I would assume the water resistance is obtained by a seal on the back side of the glass and not the outside edge. Watch a video of Jerryrigeverything taking apart a new iPhone. He has to actually use the small gap to get his pry tool into to pry the screen off. Then you can see the small lip around the edge of the body that the screen rest/seals on.

Yes.. perhaps it may or may not.. Apple has to give a reply...

My mini only has a gap on the left side . Right side I can’t slide a paper in, no gap.

Actually I can see the difference from left to right side. It’s visually noticeable although minimal.

Is this the case with anyone? Can you visually spot the difference as if the screen is somehow not centered with the aluminum body? Of course it’s a fraction of a hair, but it’s there.

One side only with a gap instead of the hole frame...

Yep, I can.

My 12 Pro Max has this gap issue on the left side. If you look with a light closely you can see the gold parts of the volume buttons and silent button. Contacted Apple Support via text chat. And this was their response. Ridiculous.

That definitely doesn’t look normal. It looks like the stainless steel band is pulling away from the glass.

I just picked up my 12 Pro yesterday and it doesn’t have any gaps anywhere, front or back.

To not be able to fit a piece of paper in there seems like a lot to ask if i'm being honest. In no way will it effect water resistance since there is an adhesive gasket running along underneath the whole display.

Look at the black gasket along the edge.

Hi, I tried contacting Apple India and they have denied me replacement as apparently they can't see any gap while the rest of the whole world are fools who agree that there's a gap on my iPhone after seeing it's condition on my video. Never ever gonna buy Apple again as it sucks at after-sale service.

I was checking with the apple store guy. Better you opt for apple care + which 23K. Your device will be protected for two years.. I told him I can able to buy a decent phone like one plus or samsung. During covid, Apple wants everyone to pay for chargers, cases, protection plans. Making their company in profit and customers life gets ruined..

Went to the Apple Store to check the minis on display.

2 of them had the corners with uneven gaps like mine. Tiny tiny difference between left and right side, but it’s there. Again, like the screen is a hair of center from the frame.

I’m beginning to think that it’s better to keep this one instead of going through all the trouble.

it’s not noticeable anyway. You really have to tell someone to look closely and even so they take some time to realize it’s a thing.

My wife said she never would’ve spotted that, and even if she did, she wouldn’t care.

So I guess that tells me something...

I don't really have a gap but I noticed that my replacement Mini's display seems to feel slightly different on the backswipe, probably due to the display protuding the tiniest bit more on this one. This can make the backswipe a bit uncomfortable when you start it right at the edge of the display because the rim is pretty sharp.

Try a different Apple store or just contact them again they will give a replacement or fix it. I have had this experience, where one store denied the issue I just went to another one and they promptly fixed it for free.

Did you contact Apple India Support helpline, or did you go to a Apple authorised Store?

This might not be an expectation in India but if you’re buying a top of the range iPhone in India then you’re not struggling with money and thinking about a charger or case to come free with a device as a deal breaker is stupid IMHO.

we are investing in a top range phone, because they will provide good quality as per specs. Perhaps, you can see people getting lot of defects. We also look for the same from apple for what u pay. It is all hard earned money for everyone.

I agree for most phones. This tolerance is probably within normal specs, particularly for repairs. Maybe to allow for expansion of glass in high heat too? My X can fit a very thin piece of paper around most edges and so can my 12 Pro. Some of the other photos of gapping look extreme and warrant a return. If you can fit your nail or credit card in the gap, that is WAY too big.

I think it is designed this way to create a buffer between the frame and the glass which probably adds to the resistance against breaking when you drop it.

That's a good point. There has to be a small gap to account for expansion and contraction. The adhesive sealing the lens will prevent any water from entering the phone. No gap at all would be a different problem. I don't see any issue at all.
