So I have the IP 12 Pro, with 14.5 beta 4. What I see is this:

In photos the black bars are black with a tiny bit of greenish; after a few seconds I can literally see it go entirely black. Almost like a light switch. If I close photos and go back in same. Same on boot, just before the Lock Screen. This is in a dark room and my brightness is set to about 30%

To me totally seems like a SW thing.

It’s nice to see someone else notice this. However for me, photos black bars never fade to true black. Videos do though.

And with most streaming apps I get the raised blacks that fade to true black as well.

Update for iOS 14.5 beta 4.
I have been one who’s green tint and raised blacks were not resolved previously.

Green tint:
My green tint has been resolved as far as I can tell. In fact, now that it seems to be gone, I didn’t realize previously how much my screen was pushing green at all times. Now things are grey when they are supposed to be. Very pleased.

Raised Blacks:
Still persist.
1. Permanent raised blacks in the black bars when viewing a photo in the photos app.
2. As I’ve described before, there are temporary raised blacks in the black bars surrounding video content in most apps when summoning the UI overlay or touching the screen. I can see the black bars becoming raised temporarily, usually flashing in the same pattern each time the screen is touched and then it’s fades to true black. I will say since since my green tint is fixed the temporary raised blacks are less offensive.
It is exactly the same for me (Beta4). Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I was out with a friend doing some astrophotography tests between my iPhone 12 Pro and Pixel 4a 5G and noticed immediately how awful the blacks are on my 12 Pro. I mean, I've seen it before many times in the dark but being in such a dark environment with another phone to compared to made the iPhone screen look... cheap. Hopefully they'll fix this. It's been a problem for me since the day I opened the phone. First time paying for AppleCare+ too with seemingly good reason.

I think they will fix it. But we need to keep reporting it with each update. There is definitely still an issue of raised blacks.

You shouldn't have to use apple care plus for green tint, apple will either fix this garbage with a software update or they'll have to replace the faulty phones free of charge.

Not confident of a quick fix, it took them 11 month to fix the same issue on the 11 series. 😬

Well hmm, odd!! I just today decided to upgrade to the 12 pro max from my 12 pro; the above doesn’t happen on this new one. The new one is on 14.4.1 and was built Feb of this year.

It still seems like a SW bug to me, unless there is some strange “hardware lag”, hmm.

Maybe the newer models don’t have the green tint issue 🥺

Anyone with a newer build have the green tint issue?

This problem is solved for me on the latest beta for sure on my 12 Pro max. It was driving me insane since day 1.
So no more green tint when you restart your phone? You’ll see the screen turn green just before it goes to the Home Screen.

The raised blacks still present at certain circumstances. Fixed is some, persisting in others. At least for me, 12 pro max.
Installed the latest public beta, no more green tint on boot up. 😊

Where you still seeing it? 🥺
Rotating pure black videos in YouTube it flashes, also watching that video in miniature (looks fine in landscape full screen), deploying control center over that kind of video, in Apple TV app, when reproducing pure black content, in the black bars when watching photos in the photo app, they are greyish duuring some few time etc. still ther for me.

Interesting 🤔 not seeing it happen in YouTube, looks like they haven’t fully fixed the green tint issue.

Rebooted phone 3 times, green tint nowhere to been seen. iOS 14.5 beta 5 😁

Yes yes yes. Exactly the same here. Additionally the overall greys look a little more greenish again. Unlike in beta 4. It could be my eyes, it’s been a long day.

Unfortunately not fixed with 14.5 B5.
For example, I still have it in the top black area in the inbox of the Apple Mail app. It is always visible when you swipe down the mails to retrieve new mails. While the wheel turns, the black background in the upper area glows slightly greenish. After a short time then perfect black until you repeat the process.

And as an addendum. The video what was quoted a few posts above me has perfect black...
So I could imagine that the problem still exists for some but is simply not seen because it is apparently fixed in such obvious situations.

I agree. I think it takes a careful eye to catch it and it gets missed by many. Just a feeling.
