Dude take a breath. I am simply providing my opinion. No need to get upset over it.

There's no need for juvenile ad-homonyms. You posted a baseless assertions about Apple's market and there being no evidence that AR will ever be a "thing." I responded addressing both. You might consider doing the same.

Lol you bet buddy.

I mean just look at how beneficial it is on the soon to be 1 year old 2020 iPad Pro. A game changer!!

With him talking about veins, I think he was referring to overlaying a schematic of the veins on someone’s arm. I’m not sure how accurate that would be since everybody is different.

I know what LIDAR is, and it’s why I said it has no application in finding something like “all of the defibrillators in the area or helping to find veins on a patient.” That’s not how it works so neither of those two things would be relevant.

Nothing annoys/worries me more than rumors that the smaller PRO will be missing features!

I could be wrong (obviously), but I don't think the smaller Pro will be missing any features that the larger Pro will offer. Other than physical size (and the difference that accompany such), Pro is. Pro. Could these images not be for 12 Pro and 12?

Who cares? These phones won't be out until Dec and many of us are tired of waiting and will have bought something else by then. Im about to get a Note 20 Ultra to replace my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple really dropped the ball on this one.

I have the iPhone Pro Max and the Note Ultra 5G. It sucks because they both rae great and each has their own advantages. I like the Note's hardware and Android has some unique and useful features, but the Apple ecosystem is strong, especially if you are a Mac user.

Jesus is that hideous. Why can't we just go back to a single camera? Imagine the camera and the size of a sensor that could fit in that camera bump? The bigger the sensor the better the image. As a professional photographer, I'm never giving up my A7R IV, but if you gave me a smartphone that had a massive single lens camera on the back, I'd be all in.
A bigger sensor does you no good unless you can extend the distance from sensor plane to the lens plane. You’d need a much bigger lens bump.

In the past, the camera used to be just a side feature. Now, it's become the primary reason people buy smartphones. So we will keep getting bigger and badder cameras with each year.

Yeah they dropped the ball by the entire world being hit by a Worldwide Pandemic. How dare they!! 🙄

But I thought Apple was a monopoly and once you bought an iPhone you were locked into the ecosystem forever?

Jesus is that hideous.

Who cares what it looks like, it's the camera(s) back of a phone.

Do have a lot of wide lenses with no depth? If it was one big lens, wouldn't it need to be deeper?

Currently, doesn't Apple use multiple lenses to make the photos better (digitally, not focally)?

Really?

It's been 11 months since you got your 11 Pro Max and you're so desperate to replace it that you're going to switch operating systems?

Have fun!

This will be the make or break for me, between 5.4” mini or 6.1” pro. If the 6.1” pro doesn’t have ALLL the same features as the Pro Max, I ain’t buyin.
You’re not alone because we all know if Apple excludes LiDAR from the smaller iPhone 12 Pro, it’s mainly because they want to save it for next year’s 12s Pro. This is the wrong year to do that because many of us will be using a magnifying glass to see if this particular iPhone has enough new tech to justify the high purchase price. Making your new marquee feature exclusive to the bigger iPhone 12 Pro will push more customers toward the iPhone 12 or make them wait another year or two.

If LiDAR were the only missing thing on a lower end iPhone, it would be very easy for me to skip the Pros. However, we all know that LiDAR is completely insufficient alone to upsell the iPhone, because almost nobody wants it anyway (save for a few niche users), so they'll bundle that along with other features (like additional lens, larger size, 120 Hz, etc.).

I wish Apple would stop putting features like LIDAR that maybe only a tiny fraction of the population might care about. They talk about it in their keynotes like its some game changing feature, when 99.9% of the population will never use it. Augmented Reality isn't a thing, and there is no evidence that its going to be a thing. I just don't get their fascination with it and all they do is use it to justify jacking up the price of their phones.
AR is a thing. AR will be far bigger deal than smartphones. We're about where we were in 2004 or 2005 with smart phones. All the technology exists at this point for AR, similar to how laptops and some PDAs would access wifi and send email, browse the web, but phones had yet to integrate all the tech and offer a big touchscreen in a usable way. Very soon, within five years we'll all be wearing smart glasses. Perhaps our smart phones will persist, maybe not...that's hard to tell.

That’s marketing. I used to sell phones and it was these dumbass features that dumb consumers like. It sounds cool and sells phones.

I showed every customer I could Live Photo’s on the 6S and they loved it. I doubt anyone actually used them now.

WTF are you talking about? Every single parent I know with young kids still loves the **** out of Live Photos in 2020. In fact, the majority of my photos are Live Photos, because the majority of them involve my elementary school age kids.

It's no surprise that Apple's advertising of Live Photos at its debut featured a cute little kid.

Even my friends without kids use Live Photos, sending me pix of their dogs, etc.

Live Photo = parents with kids. You try making little people ages 1-6 stand still. Impossible sorcery.

The S20 camera would like to have a word with you.
As a professional photographer, and a tech enthusiast, you should know that a larger sensor does not all mean a better image.
Even with DSLRs that is only sort of true when shooting in RAW but not always.

Well I can tell you for certain that within the next year LIDAR isn't going to be something that is useful for most people. Apple will tell you "Foldable phones aren't really a thing" but in the same breath tell you "Look at this LIDAR camera that no one is ever going to use, its great!!!"

Agreed. Better autofocus. Nicer AR that makes a nice demo but nobody uses after a few minutes. Unless Apple has some hidden new stuff coming in ios 14 just for the new hardware (which they sometimes do) and they decided not to release it earlier in the year for the ipad pros, don’t think it will be very exciting for most folks.
